To celebrate his 60th birthday and almost 40 choreographies, by venturing onto
the stage alone, as he did in his early days, is Thierry Smits’ new challenge
with his "Vanishing Act", where he reflects on his artistic journey in energy
and exhaustion, joy and bittersweet meditations.

Drinking involved
DESCRIPTION
Mashiro enters, dressed in Yukata,
a casual Kimono for summer nights,
brings a wine bottle and a glass.
She will sit in the middle of the room,
and ask the people
how many glasses she should drink.
And from here, all she does is
to drink that wine as she is told.
why?
Mashiro Tamura
A dancer, choreographer, and a performance maker from Tokyo, currently based in Brussels. Her curiosity of creation centers around the narrative that a body holds on the stage and how it can influence the audience’s position. Through uncanny and cute satires, the question of power is posed, also referring to her relationship with her own culture. She also holds a strong interest in music and sound creation, which plays a vital role in the performance.
Alongside her education in p.a.r.t.s., Mashiro expands her creation and personal works outside of the frame, also occasionally performing as a bassist.

Ten dancers enter the stage one after the other. They face each other as
independent individuals. From these almost subversive frontalities, gesture and
rhythm emerge. Soon the energy begins to flow abundantly. Each dancer expresses
their own unique personality, and these individual expressions are transformed
into human relationships. The dancers cross paths, merge and mingle. The
colourful social circle takes shape in an original, transgressive and
non-centred way. There are ruptures, hesitations and osmoses. Questions arise.
All about identity. And what if 'Landfall' was confronting us with our own
mismanaged modern society?
At 9pm, at the Théâtre Les Tanneurs, the show 'Vanishing Act' by Thierry Smits /
Cie Thor will be presented. Combi-ticket available.

osmoses. Des questions surgissent. Toutes identitaires.
Thierry Smits / Cie Thor. Combi-ticket disponible.

following a day surrendered to the camera's gaze, our eyes relinquished control.
After immersing ourselves in the timeless dance of existence, capturing the
silent choreography of inanimate objects, we found ourselves steeped in the
daily exhibition of motion that surrounds us. We walked through a gallery of
unseen spirits with unadorned eyes, hair billowing shapeless in the wind, and
the colourless collage of urban debris strewn about the streets. Having spent
the day capturing these motionless entities, just before projecting them to the
point of exhaustion of observation, we retreated to a bath - the pivotal moment
of reflection and transformation, where the boundaries between observer and
observed blur into a singular, immersive experience.

different forms. How can we seep through the containers of our skin? When seeing
the animate and the inanimate as a spectrum, what drifts in between? We

The encounter between Marlene Monteiro Freitas and Israel Galván seemed destined
to happen. It's as if an invisible thread runs between the Cape Verdean
choreographer and the Sevillian dancer. At one end is Monteiro Freitas, well
known to previous festival audiences, whose choreography combines extreme
precision and freedom, mechanical movements and expressionism. At the other end
is Galván, one of the world's best-known flamenco dancers, whose trademark
rapid-fire footwork is punctuated by stillness and silence. They had long wanted
to bring their two seemingly distant worlds together, united by a passion for
rhythm and the ability to combine tension with fiery expressiveness. They are on
stage, a wall behind them, inescapably exposed to the audience. Facing each
other, they weave a new – and yet immediate – communication: a grammar composed
of choreographic steps, snappy gestures and sudden interruptions. They interact
like creatures getting to know each other, mixing challenge and seduction in an
arrangement that might echo a bullfighting dance. Daily improvisation keeps the
dialogue alive. It is a breathtaking encounter between two incredible artists, a
moment of pure joy and humour, an animated conversation using only the language
of the body.

‘s werelds bekendste flamencodansers, wiens kenmerkende snelle voetenwerk
Oog in oog
I hate new music change notre façon d’écouter, en une exploration sensorielle,

The punk culture that emerged in the mid-1970s focused partly on aesthetics but
even more so on an attitude: the possibility of undermining the functionality
and productivity of the world. In opposition to hi-fi cultures that see noise as
polluting the signal one wants to send, lo-fi cultures view noise as a state to
be inhabited rather than a disturbance to be eliminated. This noise protects the
world from being too legible. But how can a choreography embrace this state of
noise? Katerina Andreou is a Greek artist whose previous creations were notable
for their singular choreographic language, which completely subverts the harmony
of the body and the canon of dance: the steps are disjointed and furious, with a
syncopated energy that catches us off guard. With this first collective creation
premiering at the festival, Andreou unveils the chaotic resistance of punk and
noise as a state of mind to a world that wants to be increasingly transparent
and simplified. Together with an incredibly skilled group of performers, she
embraces this energy, the frank and direct gestures and steps, carrying elements
of playfulness and absurdity. This carefully constructed confusion might appear
as a territory in which one is not lost, but perhaps more solid and secure.
Bless this mess!

Bless this mess (« vive ce désordre »)

In eerdere creaties viel haar unieke choreografische

MAATWERK npo (vzw/asbl) is an initiative 'from mates for mates'. We are four
friends who bring young adults together by organizing music events. On the one
hand, we aim to create a unique experience for our audience where we want to
bring people from different cultures together, and on the other hand, we want to
raise funds to support good causes both locally & internationally, please find
further information below.
By organizing events at unique Brussel-based locations, we hope to make a
positive contribution to the musical, cultural and social experience in our
capital city.
For our first event, we have the privilege to be collaborating closely with the
city of Brussels itself. We will be hosting an Open Air at the magical location
of the Vaux Hall in the heart of Brussels, namely the royal parc! This event
will be a celebration of the city and its cultural diversity and will be a day
to connect to anyone under the common factors of music, joy & kindness.
The event will take place the 1st of June between 2pm-10pm and will host up to
600 people. For the musical experience, we have contacted a diverse line-up
consisting of on the one hand upcoming talents to offer them a platform in and
on the other hand some established Brussels-based DJs such as Adi & Kayu.
Giving back to the community is one of our core-values. For this event, we will
donate our profits to two NPO's. The first one is Brussel Helpt, BRUZZ’s annual
solidarity action, in collaboration with the Brussels community centers. This
year, Brussel Helpt raises money for the non-profit Straatverplegers and
organizes their fifth edition of 'The World’s Biggest Spaghetti Meal'. The
second one is Napas Agro Processor, a development project in Uganda that seeks
to combat food waste by converting excess fruit into natural juices that have a
shelf life of up to a year. Increasing their production capacity means less food
wastage on the one hand and job creation for local people on the other. With our
fundraising, we want to support this fantastic initiative in their growth and
thus maximise their positive impact in the environment.
