crystalized painsWhen an eye is an eye and loses its gaze, images remain there
as a phantom or memory. Pain is not an emotion, but a sensation which is most
easily empathised with. When the water flowing from the eyes creates an ocean,
you will be reborn once again from its amniotic fluid and will see a new
body. 20:30Adem OuhaibiaShaharazadShaharazad deals with movement methods of hip
hop in the realm of contemporary dance. Adem Ouhaibia researched together with
Marita Schwanke how these methods can be translated and transformed considering
people’s different backgrounds and knowledge. The result of this research was
the practice Breaking technologies – the five elements of breaking and the
performance Shaharazad.Shaharazad talks about creating and leaving traces as
recordings of the past but also imagination of the future. It questions how to
read dance and share it with a diverse audience. Inspired by Roland Barthes’
idea of "The Death of the Author", we concentrate on different experiences that
come together, drift apart or shift around. How far is this accessible to an
outsider? Just like the audience, the performers and the creators speak
different languages but also have things in common. They have a shared interest
in the arts and in dance, guided by a web of knowledge and pathways that had
been acquired and lived. We are imagining the future, and this piece is part of
it.The friction between the so-called ‘high art’ (contemporary dance) and ‘low
art’ (hip hop) is part of the future we will imagine.

Bathing Under Bombs On a Friday night, following a day surrendered to the
camera's gaze, our eyes relinquished control. After immersing ourselves in the
timeless dance of existence, capturing the silent choreography of inanimate
objects, we found ourselves steeped in the daily exhibition of motion that
surrounds us. We walked through a gallery of unseen spirits with unadorned eyes,
hair billowing shapeless in the wind, and the colourless collage of urban debris
strewn about the streets. Having spent the day capturing these motionless
entities, just before projecting them to the point of exhaustion of observation,
we retreated to a bath - the pivotal moment of reflection and transformation,
where the boundaries between observer and observed blur into a singular,
immersive experience.

From an autobiographical point of view, Pedro Sousa Loureiro goes on a queer
journey of discovery. He reflects on his own queer experiences, such as his
coming-out, in relation to family and the society he grew up in. Thanks to pop
culture heroes - think Madonna or The Spice Girls - Loureiro felt protected in
his own queer search. He translates these experiences into re-enactments on
stage. As a visitor, you first step between a number of video installations in
which queer bodies are given visibility. Then you slowly enter a film set, in
which the performers re-enact a number of scenes from Loureiro's personal life.
Between the re-enactments, the live cameras and the video installations, a new,
imaginary dimension emerges. In it lives the freedom and imagination needed to
deconstruct stereotypes about femininity and masculinity. At the same time,
Loureiro realises that these experiences are not universal. He travelled to
different social and cultural contexts, e.g. Armenia, for preliminary research,
to address other perspectives. Questions about the relationship between our ego
and personal growth, hierarchic power relations or personal struggles or
self-acceptance thus suddenly appear in a completely different light. Pedro
Sousa Loureira aka Feathering (°Coimbra, 1989) is currently studying the Master
in Theatre Directing at the RITCS in Brussels with a training scholarship in
Arts Abroad from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. Pedro Sousa Loureiro has
worked with Maria João Rocha, Joris Lacoste, Lisbeth Gritter, Jorge Silva Melo,

ontdekkingsreis.
video-installaties waarin queer lichamen visibiliteit krijgen.
persoonlijke groei, hiërarchische machtsrelaties of persoonlijke worstelingen of
zelfaanvaarding staan zo plots in een compleet ander daglicht. Pedro Sousa

A two-day training/hanging-out/sharing practice for artists/researchers focusing
on the variational aspects of the genre of horror. In this setting, one can get
introduced to the historical elements of the genre, such as zombies, gore and
tortured ghostly demons, vicious animals and cannibal witches, as well as
medieval serial killer monsters, unnatural disasters and Frankenstein projects.
Parallelly foregrounding different scales and registers of horror for
reconsideration, ranging from speculative fiction, and sci-fi cinema, to
medieval bestiaries, inducing “bad feelings” such as fear, uncanny, awe, mania,
panic, loss, tension and anxiety. The participants will start by reimagining a
positive aspect of their practices, locating the value system, and deciding,
with the help of the others, what can be turned into horror. Different from
critical reflection on horror, to practice horror is to enter a symbolic realm
of expressiveness at the vicinity of horror, where another kind of relation to
the articulation of values becomes possible. In this turn, parts of an artistic
practice can get a chance of being thought of as “fucked-up”. It is a sharing
environment, where we present to each other: to what extent what we do can
become a disaster, cause damage, torture, or simply be horrific? This workshop
is developed in the crossline between Sina’s interest in medieval bestiaries and
Adrijana’s preoccupation with artistic anxieties within their own artistic work.
The workshop is open for registering and is addressed to artists/researchers
interested in sharing, horror, fabulous writing and humor, and are prepared to
devote two afternoons to the workshop. If you are interested, please register

marteling of gewoonweg afschuwelijk?

Choreographer and researcher Sara Manente has since 2018 focused on the
intersection between live art and living cultures and in ROT, these two worlds
come together. For this editorial (ROT magazine) and curatorial (ROT Garden)
project, she draws inspiration from fermentation techniques and the world of
fungi. At the Kaaistudios, Manente is setting up Black Garden, the third part of
ROT Garden. Each ROT Garden is a landscape installation consisting of sounds,
smells, texts, textures and dance. This Black Garden focuses on the dark world
of infections and 'immunitarianism' (the political control of the immune system)
full of sci-fi, horror and doom. Together with befriended Brussels creators,
Sara Manente will activate the garden for two days. Philippe Janssens shows his
installation The Commerce of Relationships there, Carolina Mendonça presents a
new version of her sci-fi speculative project Zones of resplendence, and Sina
Seifee's brings the lecture performance Loose Analogies of Dirt and Clean.
Fellow artists/researchers are welcome to Adrijana Gvozdenović and Sina Seifee's
workshop Contingent Weirdness, and Michelle Anay Woods will provide the culinary
setting over the two days. PROGRAMMEFriday 3/05Ongoing: Michelle Anay Woods -

Philip Janssens is extending his series of woven curtains, utilizing a
reflective textile that manipulates light to create a floating effect. His
sewing and weaving techniques induce a meditative experience for viewers,
stimulating sensory perception. He emphasizes the subjective interpretation of
his work, asserting that its meaning resides within the viewer's imagination and
personal memories. The challenging visual comprehension and photography of his
art highlight its ambiguity, blurring the distinction between physical and
digital realms.• Philip Janssens' work is imbued with a strong fascination for
scale, the immense and the atmospheric, for the uncanny, the anonymous and the
objectified. His sculptures or installations seem to elevate physical,
atmospheric phenomena such as the optical play of light, refraction &
reflection.

The artist duo Pablo Lilienfeld and Federico Vladimir delve into the family
history of their mothers, who are named Monica. Both Monicas were born in
Argentina in the 1950s as daughters of war refugees and later moved to Spain.
One was an ecofeminist painter, the other a muse and nude model for her
husband's photos. The paintings and photographs form the starting point for a
speculative telenovela in which their diasporic genealogies are
unravelled. Musician and choreographer Pablo Lilienfeld and visual
artist Federico Vladimir have shared an artistic practice since 2014. Their work
is intimately intertwined with their relationship and often starts from intimacy
to question prevailing narratives about collectivity. In their performances,
videos and installations they work together with family, friends, lovers,
viruses, ghosts and other companions. Their work has been presented at festivals
such as Copenhagen Contemporary, Santarcangelo, Bâtard, Belluard and Sâlmon.

In CINDY, movement, sound, and imagery are dissected into isolated scores.

How are memories retained? And what does it mean when they start to fade?
In HOLDERS, choreographer Francesca Chiodi Latini uses movement and textiles as
metaphors for the elusive processes of memory. Together with four older
performers and two musicians, she creates a visual and moving exchange across
generations, in which archetypes such as parent/child, teacher/student and
spectator/performer are slowly erased. Francesca Chiodi Latini is a performer
and choreographer. In 2017 she obtained a bachelor's degree in dance from the
Antwerp Conservatory and from 2019 to 2022 she was an artist in residence at
wpZimmer, where she created JARDIN POILU. In 2025 she will premiere the new
performance HOLDERS. As a performer, Francesca has worked with Lisbeth Gruwez,
