A journey into Greek traditional music.

Panos Skouteris (clarinet, bagpipes), Eirini Zogali (oud, bouzouki) and Vanessa Kourtesi (voice) will perform music from the East Mediterranean and Greece that they have loved and cherished. From the islands to the mainland, they choose songs and instrumental pieces that touched them over the years.

The three musicians- originally from Greece and now based in Rotterdam Nl- are highly active and involved in the folk music scene of the East Mediterranean region, performing internationally.

They often perform and lead workshops related
to Greek traditional music in Art Base.

Oscillation ::: Materia Forma New Oscillation (https://www.oscillation-festival.be/) edition, new format ::: after online, nomadic and sedentary editions, we're in for six days of sound celebrations. The marathon edition? Those who have been following us for some time know that this range is not a try-out for the Q-O2 crew. Those concerned about physical effects, sleep deprivation, and sonic saturation? Don't worry, the evenings will be intense, but, concise. This year's edition is hosted by VK Vaartkapoen in Molenbeek, complemented with outings to B.A. in Anderlecht and the Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Molenbeek-Saint-Jean Church. The six days feature concerts, (in-situ) performances, a conference, round table conversations, walks, and a series of workshops. T This year, we reflect on form, format and performance. The self-evidence of an active performance linked to music has been altered with the ubiquity of electronic instruments and forms of amplification, which has also resulted in a larger variety of concert formats. Yet, absence of activity on stage does not equate to an absence of performance: objects might take that role, everyday events can be framed to perform themselves, sounds may exist as forms in themselves. Les Jazz au Marché sont de retour et pour ce premier rendez-vous de la saison, nous vous emmenons en Afrique de l'Ouest, avec l'excellent Zouratié Koné Ensemble, pour partager les rythmes et les chants du Burkina Faso, du Sénégal, de Côte d’Ivoire, du Niger, du Mali et de Guinée. Zouratié Koné, chanteur, musicien et fabriquant d’instruments de musique, est née à Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso et a vécu au Mali et en Côte d’Ivoire. Maître percussionniste issu d’une famille de Griots et éduqué dans une culture orale, ce musicien hors pair s’est approprié de multiples instruments de la tradition ouest-africaine :djembé, dundun, talking drum, longa, kora, ngoni, balafon. Ouverture de la terrasse dès 11:00 pour l'apéro et petite restauration, début du concert vers 13:00. TCHA LIMBERGER ( VIOLIN), RENÉ BIKAR ( BRÁCS), VILMOS CSIKOS ( DOUBLE BASS) Tcha’s trio of Budapest musicians causes a sensation, with bursts of soaring musical tragedy and czardas madness delivered with an astounding purity of sound and hardly imaginable depth of musical dialogue. In true Budapest gypsy style they switch between soaring intensity and smouldering pathos delivering a passion and technical virtuosity that astounds. MAGYAR NÓTA is music actually composed by the Hungarian nobility, to liven up their noble feasts and parties. They were looking in the 19th century for Hungarian music, that had to be less primitive than the traditional Hungarian music, which was only played by the illiterate peasants. So they invented a new style, based on elements of Hungarian folk music, both textual and melodic-harmonic, all played with a classical Western European sound. They hired gypsy musicians to come and live with them at the castles, where they should learn to play violin, double bass, clarinet and cimbalom in a classical way. Then they should make the new repertoire into one of the most highly regarded forms of popular music. ‘I myself started to learn that style because the Sinti, Gypsies from western Europe, including my own family, very much look up to, and love, this Hungarian music. Manouche and Sinti used to copy that style, but without the necessary know-how and especially without the Hungarian language, which one needs very much to be able to interpret that style well. This is why I started to learn Hungarian at the age of 20 and spent a year and a half in Budapest to master this music. I then founded the Tcha Limberger's Budapest Orchestra. For this concert we speak of the Budapest Ensemble, since it consists of not more than three musicians. ********** Français ********** Née d'une famille cosmopolite, Joe Bel a grandi en voyageant entre les Alpes françaises, la mer Méditerranée et l'Amérique du Nord. Elle développa un amour pour la musique dès son plus jeune âge après avoir été bercée par les vinyles de Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Otis Redding, ainsi que les chants traditionnels judéo-espagnols chers à la famille. Instinctive et autodidacte, Joe fait ses tous premiers pas sur scène seule à la guitare en 2012, juste après la naissance de son premier enfant, à l’âge de 23 ans. Quelques mois plus tard, Asaf Avidan découvre sa soul folk envoûtante et lui offre toutes les premières parties de sa tournée européenne. Son EP remarqué, « Hit the Roads », lui a permis de se produire à travers l'Europe et jusqu'au Japon. En 2020, attendant son deuxième enfant, elle se lance dans l’écriture de son deuxième opus, « Family Tree » : une exploration à la recherche de ses origines multiples, alliant folk, mélodies entêtantes et couleurs méditerranéennes. À travers un son toujours organique, en anglais et en français, mais également en ladino, ancien espagnol que parlait encore son grand-père, elle choisit de se dévoiler un peu plus, dans un album qui invite au voyage de la transmission entre les générations. ********** Nederlands ********** Joe Bel werd geboren in een kosmopolitische familie, en groeide op terwijl ze reisde tussen de Franse Alpen, de Middellandse Zee en Noord-Amerika. Al op jonge leeftijd ontwikkelde ze een liefde voor muziek. Ze werd geraakt door de platen van Paul McCartney, George Harrison en Otis Redding, maar evenzeer door de traditionele Joods-Spaanse liederen die haar familie dierbaar zijn. In 2012, op 23-jarige leeftijd, zette ze haar eerste stappen op het podium, solo en met enkel haar gitaar als begeleiding. Enkele maanden later ontdekte Asaf Avidan haar beklijvende folk soul, en bood haar prompt alle support slots aan op zijn Europese tour. Haar veelgeprezen EP ‘Hit the Roads’ bracht haar ondertussen door heel Europa en zelfs Japan, en in 2020 begon ze te schrijven aan ‘Family Tree’, een plaat waarop ze haar meervoudige afkomst exploreert. Het album is een geweldige combinatie van folk, onstuimige melodieën en mediterrane kleuren, waarop ze zingt in het Engels en het Frans, maar ook in het Ladino, het oude Spaans dat nog steeds door haar grootvader wordt gesproken. ‘Family Tree’ is intergenerationeel, en heeft voor iedereen wel wat te bieden.

Nicolas Delaigue is a sitar and surbahar player, specialist of north indian classical music. After years of immersion, practice and dedication to this art, he was able to create a bridge between India and the West, and become a reference in the interpretation and teaching of this music in Europe. Nicolas has learned sitar and hindustani classical music with Patrick Moutal, Indrajit Banerjee and have received additionnal training with Sugato and Ustad Shahid Parvez. Today, as a international concert performer, Nicolas have presented his music in many prestigious venues in Europe and around the world. Nicolas teaches sitar, Indian music and modal improvisation in numerous public, private and associative structures throughout France and Europe. In 2022, he was appointed professor of Indian Music and modal improvisation at the National Conservatory of Paris (CNSMDP). An All India Radio Grade A Artist, Sandip Banerjee is playing tabla since 1973. He is well known for his graceful accompaniment and powerful adept solo performance. He is an enlisted artist in ICCR( Indian Council for Cultural Relation) in professional category and SPIC MACAY. He has several CDs with different artists in India and abroad. His book on learning Tabla titled ‘Le Tabla’ has been published from ID Music, France. This book is also available in English now. A rare combination of talent, dedication and good sensibilities have brought Sandip to the top of his art. 19h - Maison AUTRIQUE : Stéphane Mercier (saxophone, flûte traversière) & Maxime Blesin (guitare) Ce duo n’en est pas à son premier essai : Maxime et Stéphane se côtoient depuis le début des années 90. Ils ont écumé les clubs de jazz et beaucoup voyagé : Bruxelles, Paris, Boston et New-York sont les villes qu’ils ont découvert ensemble. Le plaisir de jouer en duo est de ce fait toujours palpable. Le son très chaud et acoustique du sax alto et des cordes permettent une approche veloutée de mélodies que l’on trouve dans les joyaux du jazz : Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter,…mais aussi quelques compositions de leur cru. 20h30 - JAZZ STATION Jazz Station Big Band : Incontournable de la scène nationale et internationale, le Jazz Station Big Band est devenu au fil des ans une partie intégrante du patrimoine bruxellois. Acclamé par la presse et reconnu par ses pairs, le big band a sorti plusieurs albums sur les labels Igloo, Hypnote Records, et bientôt sur Step By Records. Soutenir une résidence mensuelle dans un club (la Jazz Station) pendant près de vingt ans ne s’était encore jamais vu en Belgique. Mais il n’y a pas que cela : de nombreux festivals et salles extérieures font appel au big band, qui en profite pour collaborer avec des invités exceptionnels. Zinnefolee: 'Tarara Boum Patei'

"Tarara Boum patei" en alleman zingt mei! Een café-chantant in de sfeer van een oergezellig café. Mensen met een eigenzinnige kijk op de wereld vinden er elkaar en geven commentaar op al wat er leeft. Een Bourgondisch gerecht in een typisch Brussels sausje. Tarara Boum Patei, de 4de creatie van de Zinnefolee, het Brussels koor met mannen en vrouwen van allerlei pluimage. De liedjes die ze brengen staan niet wars van maatschappelijk engagement. Heel wat teksten werden hertaald en gekruid in het Brussels dialect, maar het publiek zal ook diverse talen herkennen van de Brusselse metropool. De Zinnefolee, een te gekke bende die zingt zoals ze gebekt is, soms met een vleugje nostalgie, soms met een grote mond. Een flinke dosis zwans en ambiance voert de boventoon en het publiek wordt meegezogen in een surrealistische Brusselse sfeer!

********** English ********** The dynamic trio from Lisbon comprising João, Tomás, and Halison, who have taken the Portuguese underground scene by storm with their debut album released on January 27th, 2023. With their energetic performances that seamlessly blend dance culture with heavy-hook songcraft, the band has earned a rapid reputation.Drawing inspiration from the repetition/minimalism-centric styles of krautrock and industrial techno, MÁQUINA, fearlessly explores the boundaries of these genres, bringing elements of rock and electronic music into their unique sound. Aptly titled "DIRTY TRACKS FOR CLUBBING," their album showcases a thrilling blend of pulsating beats, edgy bass riffs and noise guitar, challenging the norms and pushing the boundaries of conventional music; they have successfully carved out a distinct and compelling identity in the music scene.Their international first release will be via Fuzz Club Records, out on May 2024.The WRS was born from the jams of three old friends who met on the benches of the St Joseph institute in Charleroi. Coming from different musical backgrounds, they nevertheless share the same passion for psychedelia, DIY and fuzzy guitars. It is therefore quite natural that their path to the psych garage rock scene was made. The band was born in 2018.After a first live at self-published Rockerill in 2019, they attack their first LP which was released in the 2020 summer.
