The first part of the evening will feature a screening of the animated film Turandot (VO IT, ST FR, 24′), made for RAI in 1974 by the celebrated set designer and illustrator Emanuele Luzzati, together with Giulio Gianini and based on the fable by Carlo Gozzi that Puccini himself used for the opera libretto.
In the second part we have the pleasure of hosting Maestro Roberto Polastri, conductor, pianist and essayist, who will give a lecture-concert on Turandot. The lecture will be in Italian and French. The choir of Operamus children and some classes from schools participating in the Scuola inCanto project will perform one of the arias from the opera accompanied by Maestro Polastri and under the direction of Lucia Scoca.
Now conductor of the Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, Roberto Polastri graduated in piano and made his debut as conductor in 1990, leading the Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna. Thus began a collaboration that lasted almost thirty years, during which he regularly conducted operas, symphonic concerts and chamber music, in a repertoire ranging from Monteverdi to premieres by living composers. He has been invited to major Italian and international opera houses and festivals, including the Glyndebourne Festival with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Wexford Festival, Teatro della Maestranza in Seville, Teatro de Sāo Carlos in Lisbon, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Teatro dell'Opera in Rome, and Teatro Regio in Parma. He has served on the podium of the Moscow State Academic Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (in Glyndebourne and London), the Filarmonica Toscanini in Parma, and the Orchestra Verdi in Milan. In 2018 he conducted in Bologna the world premiere of Bruno Moretti's Cecè, a one-act opera for which he also wrote the libretto, based on Pirandello, and in 2019 the modern premiere of Weill's Johnny Johnson in Modena and Milan. In 2022 he led the RAI National Symphony Orchestra in Turin in a program dedicated to Weill, Berio and Maderna.
