We invite you to plunge into the magic of Zoltán Kodály's music, to discover the enchanting soul of Bengali Baul music, and to be transfigured by Arnold Schoenberg's greatest masterpiece, his famous Transfigured Night, written in 1899. This evening promises to be an unforgettable experience, where East and West meet.

********** English ********** Philip Janssens is extending his series of woven curtains, utilizing a reflective textile that manipulates light to create a floating effect. His sewing and weaving techniques induce a meditative experience for viewers, stimulating sensory perception. He emphasizes the subjective interpretation of his work, asserting that its meaning resides within the viewer's imagination and personal memories. The challenging visual comprehension and photography of his art highlight its ambiguity, blurring the distinction between physical and digital realms.• Philip Janssens' work is imbued with a strong fascination for scale, the immense and the atmospheric, for the uncanny, the anonymous and the objectified. His sculptures or installations seem to elevate physical, atmospheric phenomena such as the optical play of light, refraction & reflection. ********** Français ********** Philip Janssens poursuit sa série de rideaux tissés en utilisant des textiles réfléchissants qui génèrent un effet de flottement grâce à des jeux de lumière. Ses techniques de couture et de tissage créent une expérience méditative chez les spectateur·ices et stimulent l'expérience sensorielle. Il place l'accent sur l'interprétation subjective de son travail. Le sens réside, selon lui, dans l'imagination et les souvenirs personnels des spectateur·ices. ********** English ********** Les Passagées is a venue dedicated to the creation of artistic and culinary performances, housed in the historic house of the painter Eugène Broerman in Brussels. Our first performance INNER LANDS & SCAPES will bring together 6 artists from different disciplines, as well as Michelin-starred Japanese chef Chiho Kanzaki. It's a multidisciplinary artistic experience combining dance with choreographer Benoît Nieto Duran and sound creations by artist Raphaël Vens. There will also be three 'prepared pianos' by Polish virtuoso Barbara Drazkov scattered around the house, enveloping the monumental works of visual artist Valérie Novello in sound. And at certain moments, the haunting voice of actress Marie-Rose Meysman will share the words of author Ryoko Sekiguchi. As the performance progresses, several of chef Chiho Kanzaki's creations will be served up. The 6 artists have worked together for several months to forge deep links between their respective arts and works. The aim is to take the public on a journey through a global artistic landscape in which the works respond to each other and engage in dialogue, layer by layer. Given that we're working on the connections between art and food in relation to the body, we've opted for a limited, intimate number of 30 participants per evening. With this project, we want to work towards a sustainable and respectful world. How can we do this? In our view, becoming aware of what passes through our bodies is one of the keys to protecting living things in the long term. It's about gently reconnecting with our inner sensations, our invisible landscape, so that this effect can take root and last. After the approximately 1h30 performance, during which we will be serving several culinary creations linked to the works, a dish (and drinks) by chef Chiho Kanzaki, will be served to the participants and artists during a meal together, in order to experience a slow transition between the sensations of the performance and everyone's return to their everyday lives... ********** Français ********** Les Passagées, c'est un lieu dédié à la création de performances artistiques et culinaires installé dans la maison historique du peintre Eugène Broerman à Bruxelles. Notre première performance INNER LANDS & SCAPES va réunir 6 artistes de disciplines différentes, ainsi que la cheffe japonaise étoilée Chiho Kanzaki. Il s'agit d'une expérience artistique multidisciplinaire alliant la danse avec le chorégraphe Benoît Nieto Duran, aux créations sonores de l'artiste Raphaël Vens. Il y aura également les trois "pianos préparés" de la virtuose polonaise Barbara Drazkov qui seront répartis dans la maison enrobant de sons les oeuvres monumentales de la plasticienne Valérie Novello. Et puis la voix envoûtante de la comédienne Marie-Rose Meysman partagera à certaines moments les mots de l'autrice Ryoko Sekiguchi. Au fur et à mesure de la performances, plusieurs créations de la cheffe Chiho Kanzaki seront servies. Les 6 artistes ont travaillés ensemble plusieurs mois afin de tisser des liens profonds entres leurs arts et oeuvres respectives. Il s'agit pour le public de vivre une traversée dans un paysage artistique global où les oeuvres se répondent et dialoguent ensemble, strate après strate. Etant donné que l'on travaille sur les connexions entre l'art et la nourriture en lien avec le corps, on a opté pour un nombre limité et intime de 30 participants par soir. Par ce projet, nous souhaitons oeuvrer pour un monde durable et respectueux. Comment? A nos yeux, prendre conscience de ce qui traverse notre corps est une des clés de la protection du vivant à long terme. Il s’agit de se reconnecter avec douceur à nos sensations intérieures, notre paysage invisible, pour que cet effet puisse s’ancrer et s’inscrire dans la durée. Onze eerste voorstelling, INNER LANDS & SCAPES, brengt 6 kunstenaars uit verschillende disciplines samen, evenals de Japanse Michelin-ster chef-kok Chiho Kanzaki. Het is een multidisciplinaire artistieke ervaring die dans combineert met choreograaf Benoît Nieto Duran, en geluidscreaties van kunstenaar Raphaël Vens. Er zullen ook drie 'geprepareerde piano's' van de Poolse virtuoos Barbara Drazkov verspreid zijn door het huis, en die de monumentale werken van beeldend kunstenaar Valérie Novello met geluid zullen omhullen. En op bepaalde momenten zal ook de stem van actrice Marie-Rose Meysman de woorden van schrijfster Ryoko Sekiguchi delen. Naarmate de voorstelling vordert, worden verschillende creaties van chef-kok Chiho Kanzaki opgediend. De 6 kunstenaars hebben een aantal maanden samengewerkt om diepe banden te smeden tussen hun respectieve kunsten en werken. Het doel is om het publiek een reis door een globaal artistiek landschap te laten ervaren waarin de werken op elkaar reageren en laag voor laag een dialoog aangaan. Met dit project willen we werken aan een duurzame en respectvolle wereld. Hoe kunnen we dit doen? Volgens ons is het bewust worden van wat er door ons lichaam stroomt een van de sleutels om levende wezens op de lange termijn te beschermen. Het gaat erom dat we zachtjes opnieuw contact maken met onze innerlijke gewaarwordingen, ons onzichtbare landschap, zodat dit effect wortel kan schieten en blijvend kan zijn. Na ongeveer een 1u30 durende voorstelling, waarin we verschillende culinaire creaties zullen serveren die gelinkt zijn met de kunstwerken, zal er een gerecht (en drankjes), hier ook klaargemaakt door chef-kok Chiho Kanzaki, geserveerd worden aan zowel de deelnemers als de kunstenaars tijdens een gezamenlijke maaltijd, om zo een langzame overgang te ervaren tussen de sensaties van de voorstelling en ieders terugkeer naar het dagelijkse leven...

Following the over kitch statement: "music is where your home is", they lead the listener on a stony countryside path, full of dangerous turns and smoggy landscapes. This is avantgarde jazz music for nostalgic pop-rock boomers, or birdsongs lovers. One Frame Movement excels in driving and colourful compositions. The young jazz trio exudes warm-blooded playing pleasure and draws inspiration from electronic orientations, classical music, indie, and other unexpected sources.

********** English ********** DREAM is a five-hour score moving between music, dance and theater. The artists bring to the stage a durational performance, an action without beginning or end, long enough to make one forget the very concept of time. The viewer will be able to move, doze off or dream to his or her heart’s content. Spectators are invited to visit the space for as long as they wish, as if they were inside a museum. The dramaturgical and aesthetic framework, that generates and alters the performers’ state, is formed by music performed live by the pianist, soundscapes composed by Aurora Bauza and Pere Jou, and lighting by Valeria Foti.   Alessandro Sciarroni is an Italian performance artist who involves professionals from different disciplines and uses techniques from dance, as well as circus or sports. In 2019 he received the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement in Dance by the Venice Biennial.  In collaboration with the Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Bruxelles. The public is free to move around the space, to leave and re-enter. You can arrive at any time and watch the performance for as long as you wish. Depending on the number of visitors, you may have to wait before you can enter. ********** English ********** "It may be a play, but it starts out like a film. The heart of the work is in the cinema," Christiane Jatahy says of the play."It is through cinema that we arrive on the stage.”  This story is 3000 years old, but it is replayed every day in cinema, but also in Homer's ‘Odyssey.’ All over the world, people cross borders in search of asylum or a home.   The film travels through Jenin, Palestine, refugee camps in Lebanon and Greece, downtown Johannesburg, the Amazon rainforest and ends up in Rio de Janeiro. The context of the filming may be documentary, but the whole thing is primarily fiction. The actors in these communities take Homer's verses to speak about their reality. The actors are manifestations of Odysseus, Penelope and Telemachus, they draw a straight line from ancient Greek characters to each of us, present, in the theatre.  For some people in exile or in countries at war, only the present exists, the past is already too far away or almost destroyed, and the future is unthinkable. Only the time of waiting remains. A present that overflows.  • Born in Rio de Janeiro, Christiane Jatahy has degrees in theatre and journalism, and a Masters degree in art and philosophy. In January 2022, Christiane Jatahy was awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale for her entire theatrical work. Created in 2020, ‘Le présent qui déborde’, was filmed in Palestine, Lebanon, South Africa, Greece and the Amazon. The film is in dialogue with theatre and mixes fiction with real stories of refugee artists. This production by Théâtre National Wallonie-Bruxelles has been performed at the Avignon Festival and has toured in Europe, Asia and the United States. ********** Français ********** “C’est peut-être une pièce, mais ça débute comme un film. Partout dans le monde, des hommes et des femmes traversent des frontières à la recherche d’une terre d’asile ou d’un foyer.   Le fim traverse Jénine, en Palestine, des camps de réfugié·es au Liban et en Grèce, le centre-ville de Johannesburg, la forêt amazonienne et fini à Rio De Janeiro. Le contexte de ces tournages est peut-être documentaire, mais l’ensemble est avant tout une fiction. Les acteur·ices de ces communautés prennent les vers d’Homère pour parler de leur réalité. Les acteur.ices sont des manifestations d’Ulysse, de Pénélope et de Télémaque, iels tirent une ligne droite des personnages de la Grèce antique jusqu’à chacun·e de nous, présent·es dans le théâtre.  Pour certaines personnes en situation d’exil ou dans les pays en guerre, seul le présent existe, le passé est déjà trop loin d’elles ou presque détruit, et le futur est inenvisageable. Ne subsiste alors que le temps de l’attente. For this editorial (ROT magazine) and curatorial (ROT Garden) project, she draws inspiration from fermentation techniques and the world of fungi. At the Kaaistudios, Manente is setting up Black Garden, the third part of ROT Garden. Each ROT Garden is a landscape installation consisting of sounds, smells, texts, textures and dance. This Black Garden focuses on the dark world of infections and 'immunitarianism' (the political control of the immune system) full of sci-fi, horror and doom.  Together with befriended Brussels creators, Sara Manente will activate the garden for two days. Philippe Janssens shows his installation The Commerce of Relationships there, Carolina Mendonça presents a new version of her sci-fi speculative project Zones of resplendence, and Sina Seifee's brings the lecture performance Loose Analogies of Dirt and Clean. Fellow artists/researchers are welcome to Adrijana Gvozdenović and Sina Seifee's workshop Contingent Weirdness, and Michelle Anay Woods will provide the culinary setting over the two days.  Along with this programme, you can visit Manente, Tripod & Robbiano their expo Towards a Ruined Theater - as part of A Series of More-than-Human Encounters - in Pilar. • Sara Manente studied dance and semiotics before moving to Brussels, where she works as an artist and researcher. Drawing on the imagery and matter of living cultures and mycelium brought into relation with live arts, her projects reflect on the possibility of contamination between pedagogy, research, performance and publication resulting in a variety of formats. • Carolina Mendonça is a Brazilian artist, who moved to Brussels, after obtaining a Master in Choreography and Performance at Giessen University. In recent years she has been investigating notions of violence and feminized warriors and she has speculated forms of self-defence through writing and choreographic practices.   • Adrijana Gvozdenović is interested in the motivation of artists and ways of resisting (self-)institutionalized structures. Taking context as a partner, she responds to established structures in the visual arts, pushing the boundaries between making, mediation and production.  • Sina Seifee is an artist based between Tehran, Brussels and Cologne. He explores experimental cartographies and modes of subjectivity, using radical poetry and perverted etymology. He received his master’s in media arts from KHM (Cologne) in 2014 and graduated from a.pass (Brussels) in 2017.  • Philip Janssens' work is imbued with a strong fascination for scale, the immense and the atmospheric, for the uncanny, the anonymous and the objectified. His sculptures or installations seem to elevate physical, atmospheric phenomena such as the optical play of light, refraction & reflection.  • Michelle Anay Woods is a cook and artist now living in Brussels. She is interested in the relationship between performance and hospitality. Ces deux mondes se rencontrent dans ROT. Pour ce projet éditorial (ROT magazine) et curatorial (ROT Garden), elle s'inspire des techniques de fermentation et de l'univers des moisissures. Manente installe Black Garden, la troisième partie du ROT Garden, au Kaaistudio's. Chaque ROT Garden est une installation paysagère composée de sons, d'odeurs, de textes, de textures et de danse. Ce Black Garden se concentre sur le monde sombre des infections et de « l'immunitarisme » (le contrôle politique du système immunitaire), plein de science-fiction, d'horreur et de malheur.  Sara Manente activera le jardin pendant deux jours en collaboration avec des créateur·ices bruxellois·es avec lesquel·les elle s'est liée d'amitié. Philippe Janssens y expose son installation The Commerce of Relationships, Carolina Mendonça y présente une nouvelle version de son projet spéculatif de science-fiction Zones of resplendence, et Sina Seifee, la conférence-performance Loose Analogies of Dirt and Clean. Les collègues artistes/chercheur·euses sont les bienvenu·es à l'atelier Contingent Weirdness d'Adrijana Gvozdenović et de Sina Seifee. Sa réflexion porte sur la contagion/ transfert potentielle entre la pédagogie, la recherche, la performance et la publication, et ce sous différents formats. • Carolina Mendonça est une artiste brésilienne qui vit et travaille à Bruxelles. Depuis plusieurs années, elle explore les notions de violence et de guerriers féminisés. Ses réflexion portent sur des formes d'autodéfense à travers des pratiques d'écriture et de chorégraphie.  • Adrijana Gvozdenović s'intéresse aux motivations des artistes et à la manière dont iels agissent contre les structures (auto)institutionnalisées. En utilisant le contexte pour partenaire, elle répond aux structures établies dans les arts visuels, et questionne les limites de la création, de la médiation et de la production. • Sina Seifee vit et travaille entre Téhéran, Bruxelles et Cologne. Il explore des cartographies expérimentales et des modes de subjectivité, en s'appuyant sur une poésie radicale et une étymologie détournée. Il a obtenu un master au KHM de Cologne en 2014 et est diplômé de l'a.pass. de Bruxelles en 2017. • Le travail de Philip Janssens est empreint d'une grande fascination pour l'échelle, l'immensité, l'atmosphère, l'aliénation, l'anonyme et l'objectif. Ses sculptures et installations semblent générer des phénomènes physiques et atmosphériques comme les jeux d'optique de la lumière, la réflexion et la diffraction. • Michelle Anay Woods est une chef et une artiste basée à Bruxelles. Elle s'intéresse à la relation entre la performance et l'hospitalité. In ROT komen deze twee werelden samen. Ze speculeert rond vormen van zelfverdediging via schrijf- en choreografiepraktijken.  • Adrijana Gvozdenović is geïnteresseerd in de motivatie van kunstenaars en de manier waarop ze ingaan tegen (zelf-)geïnstitutionaliseerde structuren. Met context als een partner antwoordt ze op gevestigde structuren in de beeldende kunst, door de grenzen van maken, mediëren en productie uit te dagen. • Sina Seifee woont en werkt tussen Teheran, Brussel en Keulen. Aan de hand van radicale poëzie en geperverteerde etymologie onderzoekt hij experimentele cartografiën en modes of subjectiviteit. Hij beëindigde een master aan het Keulense KHM in 2014 en studeerde in 2017 af aan het Brusselse a.pass. • Philip Janssens’ werk is doordrongen van een grote fascinatie voor schaal, immensiteit, het atmosferische, het bevreemdende, het anonieme en het objectieve. Zijn sculpturen en installaties lijken fysieke, atmosferische fenomenen te genereren als optisch spel van licht, weerkaatsing en diffractie. • Michelle Anay Woods is kok en kunstenaar te Brussel. Ze is geïnteresseerd in de relatie tussen performance en gastvrijheid. In maart 2018 was ze deel van Table Dance, een bar, disco, concerthal en informele eetplek in de rosse buurt in het centrum van Antwerpen.
