Description

'Babylon' volgt de opkomst en ondergang van enkele personen, waaronder Nellie LaRoy en Jack Conrad, tijdens een tijdperk van ongebreidelde decadentie en verdorvenheid in deze industrie.

Le début de la décennie voit l’âge d’or du film de gangsters (Little Caesar, Scarface…) avant son retournement avec l’apologie des agents du FBI, les G-Men. Nous ferons fréquemment des bonds en avant pour montrer comment les œuvres marquantes de cette période ont inspiré des classiques du film criminel comme Bonnie and Clyde, Il était une fois en Amérique, La nuit nous appartient, Dirty Harry, Le Parrain… SEANCE 4 : Les Incorruptibles Face à l’engouement du public pour les gangsters de l’écran, la réaction des autorités ne se fait pas attendre. Dès 31, J. Edgar Hoover, le patron du Bureau Of Investigation (le futur FBI), condamne les films qui glorifient les délinquants. Il en va de même pour William Hays qui va donner son nom au code d’auto-censure appliqué rigoureusement par les studios dès 1934. Conséquence : les vedettes (James Cagney, Edward G.Robinson…) qui avaient incarné nos « Bad Men » se reconvertissent en « G-Men ». Place aux Incorruptibles et à la glorification des forces de l’ordre !

********** English ********** Three Mondays in a row, our team carefully selected three documentaries that present unique angles on stories about music. "Summer of Soul" is a breathtaking documentary about the forgotten Harlem Cultural Festival, also known as 'Black Woodstock.' There's a good chance you're familiar with the legendary Woodstock festival, but you might not have heard of the Harlem Cultural Festival. What a shame! This historical event took place in the same summer of 1969 in Mount Morris Park, less than 160 kilometers from Woodstock. The festival comprised a series of six free concerts and attracted over 300,000 attendees. Iconic musicians such as B.B. King, Nina Simone, Sly & the Family Stone, and a very young Stevie Wonder performed here as well. Surprisingly, no one wanted the recordings, not even under the label 'Black Woodstock.' Consequently, over forty hours of legendary and vibrant material ended up in the basement of one of the organizers. ********** Nederlands ********** Drie opeenvolgende maandagen selecteerde ons team zorgvuldig drie documentaires met unieke invalshoeken over verhalen over muziek. "Summer of Soul" is een adembenemende documentaire over het vergeten Harlem Cultural Festival, ook wel bekend als 'Black Woodstock.' De kans is groot dat je wel bekend bent met het legendarische Woodstock-festival, maar mogelijk nog nooit hebt gehoord van het Harlem Cultural Festival. Dit historische evenement vond plaats in dezelfde zomer van 1969 in Mount Morris Park, op nog geen 160 kilometer van Woodstock. Het festival bestond uit een reeks van zes gratis concerten en trok in totaal meer dan 300.000 bezoekers. Ook hier traden iconische muzikanten op, zoals B.B.
