I want to share a scream with you. I want to share a sound without fences. I want to share this loudness and the silence that comes within. I want to offer you a journey without directions, a journey into the unknown. I want to offer you no certainty or no set conclusion. I wanna share a breath, for I exist - for we exist. Like the swallow that flew to our ancestors to a chain of time, that is the only gesture lost in time and space. Whether filled with rage, pleasure, pain or silence, screaming is a powerful and profoundly intimate act. It provokes instant empathy that also summons up our most common and instinctive emotions. It opens a crack in space and time. Together with performer Sati Veyrunes and composer Lucia Ross, Benjamin Kahn examines the means of expression connected to the feeling of emergency. Screaming is less well documented in the history of philosophy and the social sciences. It is mostly equated with anger, hysteria or chaos and is often silenced. This solo is an attempt to reappropriate the scream in order to articulate and tame this raw and staggering material. The journey is physical, sonic and aims at making this vital impulse accessible to all, once again. "Bless the Sound that Saved a Witch like me" is the second part of a trilogy of portraits, composed by "Sorry, But I Feel Slightly Dissidentified...", a solo for Cherish Menzo and the solo The Blue Hour for Théo Acremanne (2023). • Benjamin Kahn is a dancer and choreographer. He studied dramaturgy and theatre at the University of Aix en Provence and the Conservatoire de Rennes, and is a graduate of ESAC (École Supérieure des Arts du Cirque) in Belgium. Since graduating, he has worked with choreographers such as Philippe Saire, Benjamin Vandewalle, Nicole Beutler, Ben J. Riepe, Frédéric Flamand, Maud Le Pladec, Eglė Budvytytė and Alessandro Sciarroni.

Like the swallow that flew to our ancestors to a chain of time, that is the only gesture lost in time and space. Nacera Belaza is known for her meticulous, minimalist and mesmerising
choreography. Born in Algeria and now living in France, she translates diverse
influences and dance traditions into addictive kinetic scores which cannot leave
you unmoved. This is dance in its purest form, which needs to be experienced
rather than understood. Two core research principles in Belaza’s body of work
are ‘the circle’ and ‘rhythm’. In previous creations presented at the festival,
Le Cercle (2019) and L’Onde (2021), she uncovered these research principles
separately with determination and depth. Now they come together for the first
time: on the one hand, the power of the circle in space, tracing its orbit
around an unchanging centre, as if organising the disorder of disparate lives;
on the other, the rhythm digging into time, lifting up bodies to grant them a
dazzling freedom. Combined, the confrontation becomes a ritual practice opening
up to a perpetual motion, a loophole to infinity. In this unique experience, the
audience surrounds the dancers to contain their incredible energy. Not to be

‘Die Kunst der Fuge occupies an almost mythical place in the oeuvre of Johann
Sebastian Bach. Not only on account of its vast scope and impenetrability, but
also because Bach worked on it until his death, which gives the listener the
impression that this is his musical testament.’
— Bernard Foccroulle
Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker continues her exploration of Johann Sebastian Bach’s
oeuvre with the work that, in a sense, is the pinnacle of his life’s work: Die
Kunst der Fuge. The remarkable thing about this cycle of eighteen canons and
fugues, performed live by Bernard Foccroulle on the organ of the Cathedral of St
Michael and St Gudula, is the exceptional power of imagination that emanates
from what is ultimately a minimum of musical material: the first theme consists
of only twelve notes, spread over four measures.
The choreography, developed with Radouan Mriziga, starts out from the same
principle by working on four lines and in the intermediate space. In addition,
the choreography is also inspired by the circumstances in which Bach composed
Die Kunst der Fuge. He worked on this cycle until the end of his life, and the
final fugue, composed with the musical notes reflecting the letters of his
surname, was never finished. This incompleteness resonates forcefully with our
current sense of powerlessness as we face a global catastrophe, despite being at
the height of our powers.

A solo figure stands at the edge of the proscenium stage – the place often used
for speeches and stand-up comedy – and silently morphs from one pose to the
next, like a body shaped by time. Iconic and mundane images emerge in a
dramaturgy that exposes a nuanced embodiment of what it means to sustain a
place, a pose, a representation. Maria Hassabi merges the strength and
vulnerability one experiences on stage – to be uncovered. She frames her
signature style of stillness, slowness and aesthetic precision, and invites her
audience to awaken their own references to a parade of images as they unfold.
What happens when the process of an image is revealed? In a contemporary culture
fiercely flooded by images, does it lose its appeal when compared to our
expectations? Hassabi has presented her work in the world’s leading museums and
exhibition contexts, and at the festival in 2014 and 2017. On Stage is
undoubtedly one of her most radical and personal works, offering a feminist
reflection and a piercing insight into her artistic trajectory. Before an
audience, Maria Hassabi’s intensity is visible, almost tangible, in a work of
rare power that leaves no one indifferent.

On Stage is ongetwijfeld één van haar meest radicale
geeft in haar artistieke traject.

klimaatcrisis pijnlijk duidelijk. Kunnen we vandaag überhaupt nog spreken over
vier seizoenen? Vivaldi’s partituur ontstond exact driehonderd jaar geleden in
het Middellandse Zeegebied, waar verschillende continenten elkaar ontmoeten. In

Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons is one of the most well-known, iconic and
reproduced pieces of music; a veritable ‘hit’ of the classical repertoire. In
this new Rosas creation, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Radouan Mriziga set out
to explore this striking ode to nature and take the exquisite recording by
violinist Amandine Beyer and her ensemble Gli Incogniti as a starting point.
Both choreographers share a keen interest in the observation of nature,
geometry, and embodied abstraction. They also share a concern with our changing
and increasingly troubling relationship to our natural environment.
Contemplating the four seasons today brings to the surface the urgency of the
impending climate crisis. Can we even still speak of four seasons? In addition,
Vivaldi wrote this music three hundred years ago in the Mediterranean, a region
at the intersection of different continents. His score thus also invites
reflection on the circulations of knowledge, power, and histories this region
represents.
In this performance, multiple strands come together to create a unique
choreographic language. The piece aims to return to the core, the structure of
Vivaldi’s famous composition and the many associations and emotions it evokes,
while offering a choreographic counterpoint to it.

Antonio Vivaldi composed The Four Seasons 300 years ago. Can we still talk about

inspiration for their new creation from a recording of Vivaldi's iconic piece by
violinist and long-time Rosas collaborator Amandine Beyer and her ensemble Gli

of Kunstenfestivaldesarts 2020, for the garden of La Maison des Arts. The
choreographers share a keen interest in geometry, embodied abstraction and the

increasingly unsettling relationship with the natural environment. The Four

nature, as well as celestial configurations as possible starting points for
choreography. The piece returns to the core structure of the Vivaldi
composition, offering a choreographic counterpoint to the many associations and
emotions it evokes. As they reflect on the four seasons, the urgency of the
impending climate crisis is made painfully clear in a beautiful, contemplative
ode to nature in four chapters, presented by five bodies.

vijf lichamen.

Peut-on encore évoquer les quatre saisons aujourd'hui ? Anne Teresa De

In Il Cimento dell’Armonia e dell’Inventione, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and
Radouan Mriziga set out to explore Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons. The
starting point for this new choreographic work is the exquisite recording of
Vivaldi’s composition by virtuosic violinist and long-time Rosas collaborator
Amandine Beyer and her ensemble Gli Incogniti. The Four Seasons is one of the
most well-known, iconic and reproduced pieces of music; a veritable ‘hit’ of the
classical repertoire. It is also a striking ode to nature. De Keersmaeker and
Mriziga, who previously collaborated on 3ird5 @ W9rk(2020), share a keen
interest in the observation of nature, geometry, and embodied abstraction. They
also share a concern with our changing and increasingly troubling relationship
to our natural environment. Contemplating the four seasons in nature by
contemplating the nature of this musical composition not only inspires further
explorations of patterns present in the natural world and celestial
configurations as possible starting points for choreography, it also vividly
brings to the surface the urgency of the impending climate crisis. Do we still
have four seasons? In addition, Vivaldi wrote this music three hundred years ago
in the Mediterranean, a region at the intersection of different continents. The
Four Seasons thus also invites reflection on the circulations of knowledge,
power, and histories this region represents. In Il Cimento dell’Armonia e
dell’Inventione, multiple strands come together to create a unique choreographic
language. The piece aims to return to the core, the structure of Vivaldi’s
famous composition and the many associations and emotions it evokes, while
offering a choreographic counterpoint to it. At the same time the dance
underscores that there may be something contemplative to be found in The Four
Seasons, in its familiarity, and in the familiarity of nature. • Rosas is the
company of dancer and choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, founded in 1983.
Since her debut, she has been committed to a meticulous exploration of the
simplest to most complex forms of movement, in relation to music. From Bach to
Mozart, from Miles Davis to Joan Baez. Besides creating new work - often also in
other contexts such as museums or in public spaces - a large number of pieces
are still performed all over the world. Kaaitheater is a permanent partner in
Brussels. • Radouan Mriziga is a choreographer from Marrakech who lives in
Brussels. He studied at P.A.R.T.S., the training led by Anne Teresa De
Keersmaeker. His work explores the relationship between space, architecture, the
body and their connections to the mind and intellect. He was artist-in-residence
at Kaaitheater from 2017 to 2022.

spreken over vier seizoenen? Vivaldi componeerde De vier jaargetijden exact
driehonderd jaar geleden in het Middellandse Zeegebied, waar verschillende
continenten elkaar ontmoeten.
In Il Cimento dell’Armonia e
Kaaitheater is vaste partner in

woont.
