De titel van de collage expo ‘Circular Times’ bestaat uit de elementen ‘tijd(en)’ en ‘cirkel of circulair’. Tijd is een zeer ruim en universeel begrip en kan op tal van manieren ingevuld worden. De cirkel is een krachtig oersymbool en is zowel begin als einde. De combinatie van deze 2 elementen is de leidraad van de expo.Beide collage artiesten wilden een artistieke expressie geven aan een lange periode van 2 moeilijke corona-jaren waarin de tijd niet lineair verliep zoals normaal, maar circulair door de opeenvolgende virusgolven en bijhorende maatregelen. Ook de ruimte rondom ons werd circulair door de vrijheidsbeperkingen en bubbels waarin we, zonder te weten voor hoelang, onszelf moesten heruitvinden.Zoals bij een tunnel kijken we uit naar het einde van de tunnel, gesymboliseerd door een cirkelvormige uitgang naar een (betere/ mooie) toekomst. De mens is steeds gefascineerd geweest door terugkerende (natuur)fenomenen, van circulaire passages van hemellichamen in de ruimte. We leven in de 21ste eeuw en denken dat we als tijdsgenoten uniek zijn: maar uit de geschiedenis blijkt dat veel zaken zich opnieuw herhalen: cirkelbewegingen doorheen de eeuwen van de mensheid, cirkelbewegingen in de natuur, cirkelbewegingen van de planeten in ons zonnestelsel.Zelfs het duurzame toekomstmodel voor onze economie wordt gevisualiseerd door een cirkel. Circulaire economie is een model van productie en consumptie, waarbij bestaande materialen en producten zo lang mogelijk worden (her)gebruikt, om zo de levenscyclus van producten tot het bijna oneindige uit te breiden. Collage is bij uitstek een artistieke discipline waarbij recyclage centraal staat. Papiersnippers, restjes inpakpapier, een oude krant, een tijdschrift, een gebruikte envelop,… het kan allemaal terug opnieuw gebruikt worden en een nieuwe bestemming krijgen, herboren worden in een collage.

Le titre de l'exposition de collages « Circular Times » se compose des éléments « temps » et « cercle ou circulaire ». Le temps est un concept très large et universel qui peut être interprété de nombreuses façons. Le cercle est un puissant symbole primitif et représente à la fois le début et la fin. La combinaison de ces 2 éléments est le fil conducteur de l'exposition.Les 2 artistes-collagistes veulent donner une expression artistique à une longue période de deux années « coronales » difficiles où le temps ne s'est pas déroulé de façon linéaire comme il le fait normalement, mais circulaire en raison des vagues successives du coronavirus et des mesures qui les accompagnent. L'espace autour de nous est également devenu circulaire en raison des restrictions de liberté et des bulles dans lesquelles nous devions, sans savoir pour combien de temps, nous réinventer.Mais comme dans un tunnel, nous en attendons avec impatience la fin, symbolisée par une sortie circulaire vers un avenir meilleur. L'homme a toujours été fasciné par les phénomènes (naturels) récurrents, les passages circulaires des corps célestes dans l'espace. Nous vivons au 21e siècle et pensons être uniques en tant que contemporains. Mais l'histoire montre que beaucoup de choses se répètent : mouvements circulaires à travers les âges de l'humanité, mouvements circulaires dans la nature, mouvements circulaires des planètes dans notre système solaire.Même le modèle d'avenir durable pour notre économie est visualisé par un cercle. L'économie circulaire est un modèle de production et de consommation dans lequel les matériaux et produits existants sont (ré)utilisés le plus longtemps possible, ce qui permet d'étendre le cycle de vie des produits à une durée quasi infinie. Le collage est une discipline artistique par excellence où le recyclage est central. Des bouts de papier, des restes de papier d'emballage, un vieux journal, un magazine, une enveloppe usagée, ... tout peut être réutilisé et jouer un nouveau rôle, renaître dans un collage.

The title of the collage expo 'Circular Times' consists of the elements 'time(s)' and 'circle or circular'. Time is a very broad and universal concept and can be interpreted in numerous ways. The circle is a powerful primal symbol and is both beginning and end. The combination of these 2 elements is the guiding principle of the expo.Both artists want to give an artistic expression to a long period of 2 difficult corona years in which time did not pass linearly as normal, but circularly through the successive viral waves and accompanying measures. Also the space around us became circular because of the freedom restrictions and bubbles in which we had to reinvent ourselves, without knowing for how long.We look forward to the end of the tunnel, symbolized by a circular exit to a better future. Man has always been fascinated by recurring (natural) phenomena, of circular passages of celestial bodies in space. We live in the 21st century and think we are unique as contemporaries: but history shows that many things repeat themselves again: circular movements throughout the ages of mankind, circular movements in nature, circular movements of the planets in our solar system.Even the sustainable future model for our economy is visualized by a circle. Circular economy is a model of production and consumption, in which existing materials and products are (re)used for as long as possible, in order to extend the life cycle of products to the almost infinite. Collage is pre-eminently an artistic discipline in which recycling is central. Scraps of paper, leftover wrapping paper, an old newspaper, a magazine, a used envelope, ... it can all be reused and given a new purpose, reborn in a collage.
