BÉGAYER (FR)


Alternative folk group Bégayer, whose sound is a gumbo of styles from southern France to North Africa, are one of the finest live acts in France. No two shows are the same, but they are always a thrilling demonstration of their raucous power and ritualistic intensity. The band are preparing to release their first album as a five-piece, Évohé Bègue – a startling, deliberately rough-edged collage pieced together from various recording sessions.


French song, noises, rumors of ancient and distant music, handmade instruments, modified radio-transistors and other old electronic objects, Bégayer seeks a gesture for the non-folklore, for the offspring of this culture of lack, given birth also by the twilight of popular habits as well as through noisemakers' howls, through the public squares of villages as well as through the swarming of digital streams, for a unique genre of rapsode-metics.


Thus each stuttering song would like to be a disturbing and joyful object, whose obstinacy, the cruel simplicity offer themselves as manifest objects of agitation, as distances to be experienced, as studies which look at us.

VIN DE SPRITE (BE)

Vin de Sprite is a duo straight out of a music workshop initiated in 2021 by songwriter Antoine Loyer within Créahmbxl, a creative space for people with mental disabilities. Their songs, halfway between Moondog and Wild Man Fischer, are missives of Rabelaisian French-speaking songs, explosive, funny, unique in the image of lead singer and keyboardist Donatien Toma Ndani Djemelas.

Un personnage de conférencière psychorigide et loufoque mène avec précision le déroulé de son intervention, tandis que les souvenirs qui la submergent se dévoilent en slam. A mi-chemin entre la conférence qui apporte des savoirs théoriques et le récit de vie, le parcours d’une personne au cœur du sigle de L jusqu’à Q. Ponctuée de jeux, d'échanges et d'humour, elle rend accessible et décrypte l'histoire d'une lutte. ********** English ********** Can we understand someone’s oeuvre without knowing her personal life? At the invitation of the festival, theatre makers Carolina Bianchi – who caused a furore at last year’s Festival d’Avignon – and Carolina Mendonça enter into conversation with filmmaker and writer Chantal Akerman. Why are we so obsessed with finding out the truth about someone? In Ma mère rit, Akerman wrote: “I don’t have a life, I’ve never learned how to make one for myself”. According to Bianchi and Mendonça, the personal lives of female artists are often scrutinised to the point of eclipsing their work. Now, they propose a dialogue with Akerman, about sexuality, heredity and the autobiographical writing process. With this venture, Bianchi and Mendonça continue their investigation on women artists of previous generations and on an expanded form of motherhood, two crucial concepts in their artistic path. They bring together fragments of Ma mère rit – in which Akerman wrote her memoirs while caring for her ailing mother – and references to Les Rendez-vous d’Anna, a movie in which she spent a night with her mother in a hotel close to the Gare du Midi. A layered reading performance inspired by Akerman’s mood and language, in an abandoned cinema, some streets away from that very hotel room. ********** Français ********** Peut-on comprendre l’œuvre d’un·e artiste sans connaître son récit personnel ? Présentée dans un cinéma abandonné, cette performance intime associe des passages de Ma mère rit, les mémoires rédigés par Akerman lorsqu’elle prenait soin de sa mère malade, avec des références au film Les Rendez-vous d’Anna, dans lequel elle passe une nuit avec sa mère dans un hôtel près de la gare du Midi. Une performance inspirée par la figure d’Akerman, présentée à quelques rues de cette même chambre d’hôtel.

********** English ********** Les Passagées is a venue dedicated to the creation of artistic and culinary performances, housed in the historic house of the painter Eugène Broerman in Brussels. Our first performance INNER LANDS & SCAPES will bring together 6 artists from different disciplines, as well as Michelin-starred Japanese chef Chiho Kanzaki. It's a multidisciplinary artistic experience combining dance with choreographer Benoît Nieto Duran and sound creations by artist Raphaël Vens. There will also be three 'prepared pianos' by Polish virtuoso Barbara Drazkov scattered around the house, enveloping the monumental works of visual artist Valérie Novello in sound. And at certain moments, the haunting voice of actress Marie-Rose Meysman will share the words of author Ryoko Sekiguchi. As the performance progresses, several of chef Chiho Kanzaki's creations will be served up. The 6 artists have worked together for several months to forge deep links between their respective arts and works. The aim is to take the public on a journey through a global artistic landscape in which the works respond to each other and engage in dialogue, layer by layer. Given that we're working on the connections between art and food in relation to the body, we've opted for a limited, intimate number of 30 participants per evening. With this project, we want to work towards a sustainable and respectful world. How can we do this? In our view, becoming aware of what passes through our bodies is one of the keys to protecting living things in the long term. It's about gently reconnecting with our inner sensations, our invisible landscape, so that this effect can take root and last. After the approximately 1h30 performance, during which we will be serving several culinary creations linked to the works, a dish (and drinks) by chef Chiho Kanzaki, will be served to the participants and artists during a meal together, in order to experience a slow transition between the sensations of the performance and everyone's return to their everyday lives... ********** Français ********** Les Passagées, c'est un lieu dédié à la création de performances artistiques et culinaires installé dans la maison historique du peintre Eugène Broerman à Bruxelles. Il s'agit d'une expérience artistique multidisciplinaire alliant la danse avec le chorégraphe Benoît Nieto Duran, aux créations sonores de l'artiste Raphaël Vens. Il y aura également les trois "pianos préparés" de la virtuose polonaise Barbara Drazkov qui seront répartis dans la maison enrobant de sons les oeuvres monumentales de la plasticienne Valérie Novello. Et puis la voix envoûtante de la comédienne Marie-Rose Meysman partagera à certaines moments les mots de l'autrice Ryoko Sekiguchi. Au fur et à mesure de la performances, plusieurs créations de la cheffe Chiho Kanzaki seront servies. Les 6 artistes ont travaillés ensemble plusieurs mois afin de tisser des liens profonds entres leurs arts et oeuvres respectives. Il s'agit pour le public de vivre une traversée dans un paysage artistique global où les oeuvres se répondent et dialoguent ensemble, strate après strate. Etant donné que l'on travaille sur les connexions entre l'art et la nourriture en lien avec le corps, on a opté pour un nombre limité et intime de 30 participants par soir. Par ce projet, nous souhaitons oeuvrer pour un monde durable et respectueux. Comment? A nos yeux, prendre conscience de ce qui traverse notre corps est une des clés de la protection du vivant à long terme. Na ongeveer een 1u30 durende voorstelling, waarin we verschillende culinaire creaties zullen serveren die gelinkt zijn met de kunstwerken, zal er een gerecht (en drankjes), hier ook klaargemaakt door chef-kok Chiho Kanzaki, geserveerd worden aan zowel de deelnemers als de kunstenaars tijdens een gezamenlijke maaltijd, om zo een langzame overgang te ervaren tussen de sensaties van de voorstelling en ieders terugkeer naar het dagelijkse leven...

In 2024 her granddaughter, the filmmaker, traces her journey piecing together fragments of her story. Máthair (Mother) draws on a complex web of obfuscated information, from adoption administrative agencies, records of a Catholic Mother and Baby Home and chat-room conversations between strangers following the same archival trail. Máthair questions the institutions of religion, notions of motherhood, and a sense of place.    Keira Greene is an artist working across film, photography, performance and text. Her work is preoccupied with the social and organic life and landscape of specific environments. Her work is produced through a collaborative and conversational practice of looking, writing and forming enduring relationships. They blend their favourite compositions from Downland to Fairuz, improvising on baroque bass lines and oriental maqamat. Far outside their everyday comfort zone, Sofie and Saad set out to discover the age-old kinship between their instruments. ********** Français ********** En Occident, les muses inspirent les artistes. Dichtbij het innerlijke wonder van de droom: daar ontmoeten de Belgische luitiste Sofie Vanden Eynde en de Iraakse oed-speler Saad Mahmod Jawad elkaar. Ze laten hun favoriete composities van Dowland tot Fairuz in elkaar overvloeien, improviseren op barokke baslijnen en oosterse maqamat.
