Inspired by Barnett Newman’s masterpiece (Who's Afraid of Red, Yellow and
Blue?), and as a pretext for an essentially chromatic journey, we allowed
ourselves to be guided in our choice of works by the three colours floating on
the supple surface of the Belgian flag – black, yellow and red. This exhibition
celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of Sotheby’s in Belgium by bringing together
some of the great names in modern and contemporary art, from Belgium and beyond.

The exhibition group project "Why our bodies should end at the skin ? » brings
together several visual artists around the theme of the female body. The title
of the exhibition is borrowed from philosopher and professor Donna Haraway and
her "Manifeste Ciborg" (Cyborg Manifesto). Some of the project's artworks place
the viewer in a situation of discomfort by representing a constrained body
that's sometimes disguised, suffocated, hidden or hybridized. These different
moments created by the artists all refer to rituals experienced that a female
body will experience at different stages of life. They also express the taboos
that arise from them. These plastic proposals with their unsettling sensuality
materialize the problems of a generation of women who contradict dominant
representations.
