Our free summer festival, Feeërieën, returns to the enchanting Warande Park from August 28th to September 1st. Treat your ears to the best in contemporary dub, neoclassical, electronica, desert blues, Scottish smallpipe music, South African gqom, hip-hop, and amapiano!Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe x Valgeir Sigurðsson x Elisabeth Klinck: 'The Art of Listening’Theatre-maker, opera director, and “wannabe counter tenor” Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe teamed up with Icelandic producer-composer Valgeir Sigurðsson (Björk, Feist, Damon Albarn) last year in order to explore the boundaries of electronic and contemporary classical music. In a world dominated by noise and in which silence has become a scarce commodity, they ask themselves how they can revitalise the art of listening. The answer translates into a 60-minute song cycle that came together in Reykjavik and Antwerp. The duo is accompanied by up-and-coming violinist Elisabeth Klinck who, just like in Miet Warlop’s ONE SONG, makes all the difference. This wonderful production came about thanks to the additional contributions of B-Classic, Festspillene i Nord-Norge and C-Mine Genk.Mabe Fratti, a Guatemalan-born cellist/singer living in Mexico, gave us one of the most extraordinary works of the past year. Her album, Se Ve Desde Aquí, features distinct, intuitive music that sounds predominately experimental but, in its most melodic moments, leans toward both Arthur Russell as well as Kate Bush – minus the hits. We hear free jazz, ambient, shoegaze, dreamy pop, as well as Gregorian chants and Sephardic music stemming from the Jewish tradition. Her cello is the foundation, topped by a tasteful layer of vintage synths, drone, guitars, and field recordings. Pitchfork adorned her album with a ‘Best New Music’ label, headlining it as “Austere beauty!” The Guardian praised her with a ****-review and lauded the album’s “direct and forceful new tone.”SOUNDTRACK BY: EEN GEVOGELD BEKDIERAB in-house resident Djs. Venez découvrir le meilleur du dub, de la musique néoclassique, de l’electronica, du desert blues, de la cornemuse écossaise, du gqom sud-africain, du hip-hop et de l’amapiano !Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe x Valgeir Sigurðsson x Elisabeth Klinck: 'The Art of Listening’L’année dernière, le metteur en scène de théâtre et d’opéra Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe (qui se qualifie aussi d’“aspirant contreténor”) s’est associé au producteur et compositeur islandais Valgeir Sigurðsson (cf. Björk, Feist, Damon Albarn…). Leur but : explorer l’interface de la musique électronique et du classique contemporain, en partant d’un thème précis : The Art of Listening. Dans un monde dominé par le cri et où le silence se fait rare, ils se demandent comment revaloriser l’art de l’écoute. La réponse se cristallise dans un cycle de chansons de 60 minutes, né entre Reykjavik et Anvers. Le duo est accompagné par Elisabeth Klinck, étoile montante du violon qui – comme dans ONE SONG de Miet Warlop – vient sublimer le spectacle.Cette superbe production a été réalisée avec l’aide de B-Classic, Festspillene i Nord-Norge et C-Mine Genk.L’un des albums les plus extraordinaires de 2022 est signé Mabe Fratti, une chanteuse et violoncelliste d’origine guatémaltèque, basée au Mexique. Se Ve Desde Aquí distille un son distinctif, intuitif, de facture essentiellement expérimentale mais qui, dans ses moments les plus mélodieux, rappelle les airs moins connus d’Arthur Russell et de Kate Bush. On entend à la fois du free jazz, de l’ambient, du shoegaze, de la pop rêveuse, des bribes de chants grégoriens et de la musique séfarade de tradition juive. Sur son violoncelle, elle pose une couche de synthés vintage, drones, guitares et field recordings. Son album fut aussitôt estampillé Best New Music par Pitchfork, qui en admira la “beauté austère”. Hun thematisch vertrekpunt is ‘The Art of Listening’.
