Mohamed Mesbahi is een multi-instrumentalist (bas, gitaar, snaarinstrumenten) die momenteel in Brussel woont. Hij groeide op ver weg van zijn Marokkaanse roots en begon in zijn eentje muziek te maken met invloeden van Bob Dylan, Cat Steven en Steve Wonder. Op 20-jarige leeftijd reisde hij alleen naar Marokko om zijn afkomst te herontdekken en nieuwe ritmes te ontdekken. Hij besloot naar kleinere dorpjes te trekken en zich technisch te verfijnen. Hij leerde de bendir en qraqeb (= metalen castagnetten) bespelen en ontdekte de Gnaoua techniek, waarmee de cadans met één vinger gespeeld kan worden.

En vingt ans, le quartet d’Emile Parisien a donné de nombreux concerts à travers
le monde. Il était temps de célébrer cela. Les quatre musiciens s’inspirent de
libres penseurs tels que Wayne Shorter ou Ornette Coleman, mais leur ingéniosité
et leur façon d’essayer continuellement de nouvelles choses ne peut être
comparée à aucun autre ensemble. Leur succès ne repose pas seulement sur
l’interaction impeccable de l’ensemble, mais aussi sur les qualités uniques de
chacun des membres. Emile Parisien rassemble ici de hauts représentants
de la scène jazz française. Les musiciens ne choisissent jamais la voie la plus
simple, et pourtant les compositions, qui sont toutes écrites par le quartet,
dégagent une énergie entraînante, exigeant une rigueur et une concentration
étonnantes. L’incroyable façon dont les membres du groupe communiquent entre
eux, tout en prenant soin d’éviter les écueils laissés par les lieux communs en
est presque jouissive. Leur jazz est frais, frénétique et original ; il appelle
tous les superlatifs.

la Jazz Station. Les bus 29 et 351 s'arrêtent à deux pas, à l'arrêt Clovis. Les

programma. We krijgen bij De Markten de studenten Jazz van het Koninklijk
Conservatorium Brussel over de vloer. Op het menu: een repertoire bestaande uit
allerlei jazz-standards, gearrangeerd en uitgevoerd door een octet (alumni)
studenten van het KCB.

comes to freestyle every week. Huncho's freestyle was immediately hailed by fans

person. Latest album My Neighbours Don’t Know gives an insight into what is

In 2024, Zap Mama will release their first best-of album: a recap of a very
richly filled career. Belgian-Congolese Marie Daulne is an artist of many
talents: she’s a singer, composer, activist, and teacher of vocal polyphony.
Since the early ‘90s, she’s been at the helm of Zap Mama – a polyphonic female a
capella quintet with which she conquered world stages and even garnered a Grammy
nomination. Daulne also launched the term ‘Afropean’ to name the existence of a
bicultural generation of Afro-Europeans. She introduces the world to her
experience of ethnically influenced music and fashion.For the last 25 years, Zap
Mama toured the United States, Japan and Europe. The band performed and worked
with top artists such as The Neville Brothers, Al Jarreau, Talib Kweli, Common,
Bilal, Questlove, Tony Allen and Bobby McFerrin. Over the years, the frontwoman
moved away from a capella and she and her band evolved increasingly more toward
an original and unique mix of European, American and African rhythms and
traditions.While living in New York, in 2004 she released her fifth album
Ancestry in Progress, which was produced by The Roots and marked a new
highlight: the wonderful single Bandy Bandy with Erykah Badu that topped the
Billboard World Music charts for weeks on end. Belgian music history on a

career, always collaborating with young talent. For this Carte Blanche, he
presents two of his latest projects, The Rhythm Hunters and The Gallands. In the
latter project, he pulls out all the stops with his son and keyboard player
