Ziryab Jazz Quartet

Le duo Ziryab réunit Aykut Dursen, violoncelliste de formation internationale, co-soliste de l'Orchestre philharmonique d'Anvers et interprète de musique traditionnelle turque, et Riad Abdel-Abdel-Gawad, violoniste, compositeur formé à l'Université de Harvard et qui a été au Caire pendant dix ans l'élève, l'ami et le transcripteur d'Abdo Dagher dont ils interprètent la Nouvelle musique soufie. Ils peuvent être accompagnés par le percussionniste d'origine hongroise, spécialiste de la darbouka, du riqq et du bendir, Peter Borcsok et forment le Trio Ziryab. Enfin, lorsqu'ils jouent avec le pianiste Samir Bendimered, ils forment le Ziryab Quartet dont ils ont adapté le répertoire au jazz. Ils présentent également des compositions originales récentes de Riad Abdel-Gawad et d'autres issues des albums : El Tarab El Aseel, Egypt, Mother of the World et Words of Peace ainsi que des compositions traditionnelles de la fin du 19ème et du début du 20ème siècle de l'ère musicale ottomane selon l'accordage et l'interprétation du style arabo-égyptien dont le taqaseem ou l'improvisation mélodique influencée par le chant sacré soufi égyptien appelé ibtihalat.

Het duo Ziryab bestaat uit Aykut Dursen, internationaal cellist, co-solist bij het Filharmonisch Orkest van Antwerpen en traditioneel Turks vertolker, en Riad Abdel-Abdel-Gawad, violist, componist, opgeleid aan Harvard University en tien jaar student, vriend en transcribent van Abdo Dagher, wiens Nieuwe Soefimuziek ze interpreteren. Ze kunnen worden begeleid door de percussionist van Hongaarse afkomst, specialist in darbouka, riqq en bendir, Peter Borcsok en vormen het Ziryab Trio. Ten slotte, wanneer ze spelen met de pianist Samir Bendimered vormen ze het Ziryab Quartet wiens repertoire en dit eens aangepast in jazz. The Ziryab duo brings together Aykut Dursen, internationally trained cellist as well as co-soloist at the Antwerp Philharmonic Orchestra and traditional Turkish performer and Riad Abdel-Abdel-Gawad, violinist, composer trained at Harvard University and who was in Cairo for ten years student, friend and transcriber of Abdo Dagher whose New Sufi Music they interpret. They can be accompanied by the percussionist of Hungarian origin, specialist in darbouka, riqq and bendir, Peter Borcsok and form the Ziryab Trio. Finally, when they play with the pianist Samir Bendimered they form the Ziryab Quartet whose repertoire and this once adapted into jazz.
