Seven people arrive at a remote medical facility to take part in a clinical drug trial. All of them young and broke, doing it for the money. The trial is supposed to be routine, but from the first night no one can sleep. They stay awake for days on end without even feeling tired. But on the fourth night the effects start to wear off, and when the first of the group finally falls asleep, they suffer a horrific death. The others must now come to grips with the drug's terrifying side effect: if you fall asleep you die. With the facility locked down for 24 hours and all communication cut off, they have no choice but to stay awake until help arrives. But as time drags on, one by one they succumb to sleep and death, and their chances of survival seem slim. They need a leader, and troubled loner Claire is gradually drawn out of her isolation and forced to step up. With paranoia taking hold and the group starting to turn on each other, it's left up to Claire alone to keep them together, find a way to escape, and somehow manage to stay awake.
