Two of Berlins established Stand-Up comedians bringing their best Material
across Europe.
Join Harshat and Fitz, two experienced comedians from Berlin with very different
cultural backgrounds. One, a brooding bad boy having grown up in the hustle and
bustle of India. The other, a confused small town country kid from New Zealand
trying to adapt to the manic German way of life. Given these two vastly
different backgrounds we have a mix of two competing comedic styles; dark, edgy
and punchy versus warm, cute and absurd - you guess who is who. Both equally
likable and hilarious. We aim to answer the age old question: is funny black and
white? Or are there shades of grey?

traditionnel. Spectacle sous chapiteau, déambulations clownesques et animations

Thirteen performers dance and sing their hearts out, as if in ecstasy. They move
as one global body through scenes reminiscent of street life, at times evoking a
procession. Periodically, one will escape the dance only to be lovingly reunited
with the group. They sing traditional and contemporary Mozambican songs, gospel
and baroque motifs. Choreographer Idio Chichava found inspiration in the
migratory movements of groups of people and the dance rituals of the Makonde
people living in Mozambique and neighbouring countries. He believes only bodies
that dance and sing simultaneously express themselves fully and exist in synergy
with others. Vagabundus depicts life as a constant coming together and being
together in a group, and migration as a possibly emotional, spiritual and
collective journey. Chichava explores the expressiveness of the body and points
the way to our true selves celebrating life with a pared-down stage design
carried entirely by the explosive impact of dance and voices. This dazzling
dance production invites us to recognise that our identity is strengthened by
the community, through an overwhelming group performance showcasing song and
dance as a means of resistance and a ritual of survival.

A solo figure stands at the edge of the proscenium stage – the place often used
for speeches and stand-up comedy – and silently morphs from one pose to the
next, like a body shaped by time. Iconic and mundane images emerge in a
dramaturgy that exposes a nuanced embodiment of what it means to sustain a
place, a pose, a representation. Maria Hassabi merges the strength and
vulnerability one experiences on stage – to be uncovered. She frames her
signature style of stillness, slowness and aesthetic precision, and invites her
audience to awaken their own references to a parade of images as they unfold.
What happens when the process of an image is revealed? In a contemporary culture
fiercely flooded by images, does it lose its appeal when compared to our
expectations? Hassabi has presented her work in the world’s leading museums and
exhibition contexts, and at the festival in 2014 and 2017. On Stage is
undoubtedly one of her most radical and personal works, offering a feminist
reflection and a piercing insight into her artistic trajectory. Before an
audience, Maria Hassabi’s intensity is visible, almost tangible, in a work of
rare power that leaves no one indifferent.

On Stage is ongetwijfeld één van haar meest radicale
geeft in haar artistieke traject.

In this double bill, we are asked to rethink the relationship with our hands and
reflect on their role in the present, past and future.
By touching, we create relationships of proximity while distancing ourselves
from the rest of our surroundings. But our touch is increasingly mediated by
technologies that change how we experience ourselves and others. In Begüm
Erciyas’ performance Hands Made, the hands of the audience will take centre
stage. Accompanied by a soundtrack, spectators are asked to observe their hand
and that of their neighbour, creating an effect of intimacy and alienation.
Separated from the rest of the body, our hands become the focus of a reflection
on handwork and touch. What have these hands been busy with? Who or what will
they touch in the future?
Nothing But Fingers is the other half of this double bill, a performance by
visual artist Moe Satt. He became fascinated by the role of hand gestures in
South African hunting communication as well as traditional dance in Myanmar and
Southeast Asia, where human gestures can take animal forms. With dancer Liah
Frank, he explores the expressive potential of hands and their ability to direct
energy flows in the body, an extraordinary choreography in which the hands
dictate the rest of the body until the final surrender.

omgeving treden.
