The end of the season at Les Halles is synonymous with Le Grand Marché, the Big Market. We open up our doors to the local neighbourhood and to all those who want to bring the spaces of the former Rue Sainte-Marie market to life.

Designed with L'Amicale, a project cooperative partnered with Les Halles, Le Grand Marché is an experience in the transformation of Les Halles and the creation of unlikely links. We’ll be setting up artistic spaces, but also places to play, practice, try things out and partake in the art of meeting people. A giant ball pit, a sports area, a soft slide, a kitchen... experience Les Halles differently.

For one month, we put on a market of what we produce best: ideas, encounters, emotions and time spent differently in a joyous and anarchic atmosphere. The Grand Marché aims to be a space for creating utopias, a nice spot where you can find allies in the creation of a new folklore.

The Grand Marché is mainly open during the day, with free entry, and is developed in partnership with l’Ecole Supérieure des Arts du Cirque, the Hip Hop School, the Carnival de Schaerbeek and Bwanga Pilipili and Samira Hmouda’s B.NARRATIVE project.

With works by Tsiharaka Harrivel, Kenzo Tukuoka, L'Amicale, Vincent Glowinski and many others.

La fin de saison est synonyme de Grand Marché. Nous ouvrons les portes au quartier et à tous·tes celleux qui ont envie de faire vivre les espaces de l’ancien marché de la rue Royale Sainte-Marie.

Conçu avec L’Amicale, une coopérative de projets associée aux Halles, Le Grand Marché est une expérience de transformation des Halles et de création de liens improbables. Nous y installons des espaces artistiques mais aussi des lieux pour jouer, essayer des choses et pratiquer l’art de la rencontre. Piscine à balles géante, terrain de sport, toboggan mou, cuisine, vous allez vivre Les Halles autrement.

Pendant un mois, nous mettons en commerce ce que nous produisons de mieux : des idées, des rencontres, des émotions et du temps pris autrement dans une joyeuse ambiance anarchique. Le Grand Marché se veut un espace de création d’utopies, un joli chantier où se trouver des alliés pour créer un nouveau folklore.

Le Grand Marché est ouvert principalement en journée, accès libre et est développé entre autres en partenariat avec l’Ecole Supérieure des Arts du Cirque (l’Esac), la Hip Hop School, le Carnaval de Schaerbeek et le projet B.NARRATIVE de Bwanga Pilipili et Samira Hmouda .

Avec des interventions de Tsiharaka Harrivel, Kenzo Tokuoka, L’Amicale, Vincent Glowinski et beaucoup d’autres.

Het einde van het seizoen van de Hallen is synoniem met de Grand Marché. We zetten de deuren open voor de buurt en voor iedereen die de voormalige marktruimte aan de Sinte-Mariastraat tot leven wil brengen.

Tijdens de Grand Marché, bedacht in samenwerking met L'Amicale, een projectcoöperatie die verbonden is aan de Hallen, worden de Hallen helemaal omgevormd en komen er onwaarschijnlijke verbindingen tot stand. We installeren artistieke ruimtes maar ook plaatsen om te spelen, te oefenen, dingen uit te proberen en mensen te ontmoeten. Een groot ballenbad, een sportterrein, een glijbaan, een keuken, beleef de Hallen eens op een andere manier.

Een maand lang zetten we dat waar we goed in zijn in de kijker: ideeën, ontmoetingen, emoties en een andere tijdsbeleving, en dit in een vrolijke, wat chaotische sfeer. De Grand Marché is een ruimte waar utopieën worden gecreëerd, een prachtige locatie waar men bondgenoten vindt om een nieuwe folklore te maken.

De Grand Marché is hoofdzakelijk overdag open en is vrij toegankelijk. Ze wordt uitgewerkt in samenwerking met de Ecole Supérieure des Arts du Cirque, de Hip Hop School, het Carnaval van Schaarbeek en het project B.NARRATIVE van Bwanga Pilipili en Samira Hmouda .

Met optredens van Tsirihaka Harrivel, Kenzo Tokuoka, L'Amicale, Vincent Glowinski en vele anderen.

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, the international house of literature Passa Porta is opening its doors for you. On Saturday, June 22, we are planning a series of free and multilingual activities, on all floors of the Rue Dansaert 46. Before or after visiting our trilingual bookshop on the ground floor, you can explore spaces otherwise reserved for writers and staff, and learn more about the past, present and future of a house that has been dedicated to contemporary literature for 20 years. On the menu: a breakfast on the terrace, summer reading tips, participatory workshops, a literary bingo, a reading session, a tour and, a meeting with Turkish writer Almula Türedi in the flat of our writers-in-residence. Additionally, there will be literary tarot sessions throughout the day. Op zaterdag 22 juni plannen we de hele dag lang een reeks gratis toegankelijke en meertalige activiteiten, op alle verdiepingen van Dansaertstraat 46. Voor of na een bezoek aan onze drietalige boekhandel op het gelijkvloers kun je ruimtes verkennen die anders voorbehouden zijn aan schrijvers en medewerkers, en meer te weten komen over het verleden, het heden en de toekomst van een huis dat al 20 jaar gewijd is aan hedendaagse literatuur. Op het menu: literaire yoga, ontbijt op het terras, zomerleestips, participatieve workshops, een literaire bingo, een voorleessessie, een performance, een rondleiding en een ontmoeting met de Turkse schrijfster Almula Türedi in het appartement van onze writers-in-residence. Verder nog een literaire tarotsessie, een aperitiefconcert, een open mic... Tijdens de opendeurdag nodigt het internationaal literatuurhuis je uit voor een rondleiding (in het Nederlands, Frans of Engels) door de gewoonlijk gesloten ruimtes. Deze rondleiding biedt een unieke kans om achter de schermen van de huisactiviteiten te kijken en eindigt in een van onze internationale residentieflats. Daar verblijft de Turkse schrijfster Almula Türedi, onze writer-in-residence voor juni. Ontdek haar werkplek en leer meer over het manuscript waaraan ze in Brussel werkt. Maximaal 10 personen per bezoek, ook om 17 uur. 13u - 14u30: workshop back to the future – met jeroen theunissen tijdreizen in de literatuur maximum 15 personen passa porta living niet toegankelijk voor mensen met een beperkte mobiliteit Omdat we op onze verjaardag niet alleen achteruit maar ook vooruit willen kijken onderzoeken we hoe schrijvers omgaan met tijd. Hoe geef je het verleden vorm en maak je de toekomst geloofwaardig? Aan de hand van 3 literaire fragmenten denken we na over verleden en toekomst in de literatuur. Jeroen Theunissen doet in zijn nieuwe roman Een week iets heel ingenieus met het tijdsverloop, en hij is dan ook de geknipte persoon om ons iets bij te leren. Hij kiest een fragment uit zijn boek en leidt ons mee door de workshop. De drie boeken: Een week van Jeroen Theunissen: welke deuren worden er geopend voor je verhaal en welke gaan er dicht wanneer je de chronologie omkeert? We gaan het proefondervindelijk testen. De zaaier van Octavia Butler: een toekomstroman die werd geschreven in 1993 en die zich afspeelt in… 2024. Hoe stelde deze gerenommeerde schrijfster in deze sciencefictionklassieker zich onze tijd voor? Herkennen we ons in haar doembeelden en begrijpen we waarom ze voor deze werkelijkheid heeft gekozen? En hoe zouden we zelf het jaar 2054 vormgeven? Ik kom hier nog op terug van Rob van Essen. In deze roman, die de Libris Literatuurprijs won, krijgt het hoofdpersonage de kans om terug te keren naar een moment in zijn eigen leven waar hij iets kan goedmaken. Een verleidelijke kans, maar niet zonder gevaren, zowel voor de schrijver als zijn personage. Hoe zouden wij ermee omgaan? Het is niet nodig om de boeken op voorhand gelezen te hebben. We lezen samen de fragmenten en gaan van daaruit aan de slag. Meer dan je verbeelding en je tijd vragen we niet. 14u - 18u: literaire tarot passa porta terras niet toegankelijk voor mensen met een beperkte mobiliteit Benieuwd naar je toekomst? A year after making their stage debut with Rachmaninov's third Piano Concerto, the KCB Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Wouter Versavel, returns alongside Belgian pianist Tom De Beuckelaer. Picture a chance encounter between two musical giants! Many years had passed since a young Prokofiev, still a student at the St. Petersburg Conservatory, attended a concert dedicated to the memory of Alexander Scriabin. Rachmaninov, the esteemed Moscow idol, was the performer that evening, playing Scriabin's intricate pieces. Despite some criticism from St. Petersburg enthusiasts, Prokofiev, in his characteristic straightforward manner, expressed his admiration to Rachmaninov, stating that the performance "was not bad at all." "What do you mean — 'not bad'?" Rachmaninov asked with a touch of indignation, turning his back on Prokofiev. The exchange captures the nuances of their personalities—Rachmaninov, the revered master with a commitment to perfection, and Prokofjev, the bold and audacious young composer, unafraid to speak his mind. Prokofiev's odyssey began in 1918 as he left Russia amidst the emergence of the Soviet Union. After a brief stint in the United States, he found his artistic haven in Paris, where he flourished as both a pianist and composer. Similarly, Sergej Rachmaninov, sought refuge in America after the Russian Revolution. Join us for an unforgettable concert filled with the timeless melodies of Prokofiev and Rachmaninov.
