Nana Osei-Twum Barima is a talented harp-lute player, singer, percussionist, and dancer from Ghana. As a member of the Akan people, Nana learned to play the seperewa, a beautifully resonant harp-lute, at a young age. This instrument was revived by his grandfather and taken around the world by his uncle. Nana also plays eight other instruments, including the delicate mbira (thumb piano) and various percussion instruments like the water drum, the Ghanaian percussion box, and bamboo percussion. Every musical journey with him is an exciting escape.

Double bassist Lara Rosseel is one of the rising stars in the jazz world. In recent years, she has made a significant impression with the Lara Rosseel Band, releasing the brilliant album “De Grote Vrouw.” Chris Joris says this about her: Lara Rosseel is a true poet on the double bass and a gifted composer. A quiet soul with deep respect and love for music, she explores it in many directions and forms. Moving from classical studies to jazz, she also tunes in to folk music from various cultures. Improvisation is her best companion, and when she’s in the right environment, Lara lets her intuitive playing flow freely. Warm and touching in ballads, her groove is never far away, gently swaying like a boat on a sunny river.

De jonge getalenteerde harpluitspeler, zanger, percussionist en danser Nana Osei-Twum Barima komt uit Ghana. Dit lid van het Akan-volk legde zich op jonge leeftijd toe op de seperewa-harpluit, een prachtig klinkend instrument dat door zijn grootvader terug leven werd in geblazen, en waarmee zijn oom de wereld rondreisde. Nana Osei-Twum Barima speelt nog acht andere instrumenten zoals de subtiele mbira (duimpiano) en een scala aan percussie zoals de dij- en waterkalebas, de Ghanese percussiebox én bamboe-percussie. Nana neemt zijn publiek steevast mee in een spannend muzikaal parcours.

Contrabassiste Lara Rosseel is dan weer één van de rijzende sterren aan het jazzfirmament. Zo maakte ze de afgelopen jaren indruk met de Lara Rosseel band waarmee ze het schitterende album ‘De Grote Vrouw” uitbracht.
“Ze is een ware poëet op de contrabas en een begaafd componiste. De stille ziel met respect en liefde voor de muziek, die ze wil ontdekken en die, wat haar betreft, vele kanten uitgaat en meerdere gezichten draagt. Vanuit de Klassieke studies naar de jazz evoluerend, stelt zij haar oor en ziel open voor volksmuziekvormen en diverse culturen. Improvisatie wordt haar sterke metgezel, en wanneer ze zich in de juiste biotoop weet van eerlijke interactie, krijgt haar intuïtief spel de vrije loop. Warm en aandoenlijk is zij in ballades en zodra ze geniet van de vibe, deint haar “groove” als een bootje op een zonnige rivier”, aldus Chris Joris.
