DRIFTWD (previously Driftwood) is the Belgian-American collaboration around artistic duo architect-musician Sam De Bock and musician-composer Patricia Vanneste (Sohnarr, Hydrogen Sea, ex-Balthazar).With absolutely world class musicians like Joey Waronker (Beck, Atoms For Peace, Thom Yorke, R.E.M.), Timothy Lefebvre (David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Sting) and Donny McCaslin (David Bowie, Sun Kil Moon) on board, it should come as no surprise that this band strives for a distinctive sound. The fusion of Vanneste’s melodic expression and De Bock’s structural, collage-like approach, creates a unique harmony that seeks points of contact with both Massive Attack, Tricky, Lamb and Mark Lanegan all at once.The duo released debut album Only Fighters Left Behind in 2020, which was immediately met with rave reviews. At the moment, DRIFTWD is putting the finishing touches to a second full album that is expected in September or October 2024. With first single, Bonfire, the band immediately makes clear that it doesn’t plan to hold back. The track was written after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine and packs a punch.So, live, the duo is joined by Joey, Timothy and Donny, but also drummer Steven Van Gelder (Geike, Hydrogen Sea), guitarist Artan Buleshkaj (HAST, Anemic Cinema) and bass-/keyboard-player Sander Verstraete (Warhaus, Tamino).

De samensmelting van Vanneste’s melodische expressie en De Bock zijn structurele, collageachtige benadering, creëert een unieke harmonie die raakpunten zoekt met zowel Massive Attack, Tricky en Lamb als Mark Lanegan.Het tweetal bracht in 2020 debuutalbum ‘Only Fighters Left Behind’ uit, dat meteen met lovende kritieken werd onthaald. Momenteel legt DRIFTWD de laatste hand aan een tweede full album, dat verwacht wordt in september/oktober 2024.
