Lamenta portera son regard sur les différents états traversés quand survient la perte. Dans toutes les cultures ont existé des rites entourant le deuil, portés par le chant, la musique et la danse pour pouvoir collectivement exprimer, partager les tourments émotionnels et créer un chemin pour s’en libérer. Dans nos sociétés contemporaines, bon nombre de ces rituels ont disparu, bien qu’ils persistent dans certaines cultures et régions, comme dans l’Épire, au nord de la Grèce.La principale source d’inspiration pour Lamenta sont les ‘miroloï’ de l’Épire, chants de lamentation reliés à la perte, non seulement lors d’un décès, mais également lorsque quelqu’un quitte sa famille pour se marier ou pour émigrer. Augustijnen et Torres Guerrero ont voyagé en Grèce plusieurs années et ont été en contact avec ces rituels chargés. À l’Epire, ils y ont rencontrés des musiciens de talents dont Xanthoula Dakovanou, la directrice artistique du Kerasovo festival ainsi que le célèbre clarinettiste Nikos Fillipides, qui gardent en vie ces traditions.Conjointement, de nouvelles versions de ces lamentations grecques ont été enregistrées et forment l’épine dorsale émotionnelle de la pièce. La dramaturgie musicale débute par la restitution du ‘miroloï’ dans sa forme originale puis glissera vers sa forme plus contemporaine, sous influence post-rock, qui la réactualise et la connecte au monde d’aujourd’hui.Torres Guerrero et Augustijnen rassemblent pour l’occasion un groupe hétérogène de neuf danseur-seuses grec-ques contemporains de haut niveau aux techniques variées. Ensemble ils exploreront l’énergie des danses et musiques grecques, dans leur qualité à la fois terrienne et transcendantale, pour déployer et nourrir une création, à l’image d’un rite contemporain pour s’affranchir de la douleur de la perte, quelle qu’elle soit.

Lamenta zoomt in op de verschillende emoties die we ervaren wanneer we rouwen om verlies. In alle culturen bestonden er rouwrituelen waarin met zang en dans uiting werd gegeven aan deze emoties. We moeten zulke emoties herbeleven en ze collectief delen om ze te kunnen loslaten. In onze hedendaagse samenleving zijn veel van deze rituelen verloren gegaan. Ze overleven nog in specifieke culturen en regio’s, zoals bijvoorbeeld in Epirus in het Noorden van Griekenland.De belangrijkste inspiratiebron voor Lamenta zijn de miroloi van Epirus, Griekse rouwliederen die niet alleen op begrafenissen gezongen worden maar ook wanneer iemand de familie verlaat om te trouwen of te emigreren. Augustijnen en Guerrero hebben de laatste jaren regelmatig in Griekenland gewerkt en ontdekten er deze krachtige rituelen.In Epirus, ontmoetten ze getalenteerde muzikanten zoals Xanthoula Dakovanou, de artistieke leidster van het Kerasovo Music festival en de gereputeerde klarinetspeler Nikos Fillipides, die de traditie van de miroloi in leven houden. Samen met hen, maakten ze nieuwe opnamen van de Griekse rouwliederen, die de emotionele ruggengraat van de productie vormen. De muzikale dramaturgie begint met de miroloi in hun oorspronkelijke vorm. Langzaam worden andere invloeden toegelaten, die de liederen actualiseren voor een hedendaagse context.Torres Guerrero en Augustijnen brengen een groep van negen hedendaagse, Griekse dansers samen, die een verscheidenheid aan danstechnieken beheersen. Samen onderzoeken ze hoe de energetische - zowel aardse als transcendentale - kwaliteiten van de Griekse muziek en dans, zich verder kunnen ontplooien in een hedendaagse creatie. Met als inzet een ritueel van vandaag dat zich ontdoet van de pijnlijke gevoelens die verlies met zich meebrengt om daarna op een positieve manier te kunnen verder leven.

Lamenta will focus on the different emotional states which we experience when we grief our losses. In all cultures, rituals of mourning used to exist in which song and dance were used to express these emotions. We need to perform these emotions and share them collectively in order to let them go. In our contemporary society a lot of these rituals have been lost, but they still survive in specific regions and cultures, such as Epirus in the North of Greece.Main source of inspiration for Lamenta, are the miroloi from Epirus, Greek songs of mourning that are not only used at funerals but also when somebody leaves the family to marry or to migrate. Augustijnen and Guerrero haven been travelling and working in Greece since several years where they discovered these powerful rituals.In Epirus they met talented musicians such as Xanthoula Dakovanou, the artistic director of the Kerasovo festival and the reputed clarinet player Nikos Fillipides, who keep the tradition of the miroloi alive. Together with them they made new recordings of the Greek laments, which will be the emotional backbone of the performance. The musical dramaturgy will start with rendering the miroloi in their original form while allowing other influences to come in, re-actualizing them for the present.Torres Guerrero and Augustijnen bring together a group of nine contemporary, Greek dancers, all highly skilled in a diversity of dance techniques. Together they will explore how the energetic - both earthy and transcendental - qualities of the Greek music and dances can unfold and nourish a contemporary creation. With the commitment to create a rite for today that frees oneself of the feelings of pain and loss to be able to continue life in a positive way.
