Guided by Bruce Lee’s allusion to an old Zen Buddhist wisdom in his seminal film
Enter the Dragon, “Don’t concentrate on the finger or you will miss all that
heavenly glory!”, she proposes to move with what we cannot fathom. To disappear
in order to preserve the words that precede us, that never left us. To transform
in order to keep what came before us.
In close collaboration with an invited group af artists, they dance nearby the
guardians of words and rhythms of persisting, still vibrant but disregarded
worlds and invites us to listen to images of encounters in the moment of their
sounding. In close relation with the elliptical drive of the moon, they
challenge the possibility to sense the remnants of a language inwardly, so that
the deeper they go into their bodies, the wider they go into its dismembered but
enduring vocabularies and grammars, without ever seizing or claiming them.

What makes up a democracy? What is so attractive about authoritarian regimes?
Can violence sometimes be legitimate?
Director Piet Arfeuille brings together various generations and makes them think
out loud; he creates a seventies imagery that simultaneously feels modern and
current.
Being radical is cool … or so it seems in these times. But maybe the real
dialogue is one that doesn’t deliver answers, but that asks questions and opens
up our thinking.
A story about the right or the duty to clarify your point of view, about moral
compasses and how they sometimes lose their way, about broccoli, phone ringing
and plenty of alcohol.
*Rainer Werner Fassbinder (1945-1982): ground-breaking filmmaker who used his
films to address the divisions in German society. Created 42 films in a span of
14 years. An intense love life fuelled by alcohol and drugs resulted in an

Maryse Condé wrote Tituba a fictional childhood, adolescence and death in her
award-winning book I, Tituba, whereupon philosopher Elsa Dorlin wrote an essay
on Tituba in Moi, toi, nous ... Tituba of de ontologie van het spoor.
When Dorothée Munyaneza was introduced to Elsa and her work, there was little
hesitance: she knew she wanted to create something around the figure of Tituba.
In this new solo, a dialogue with musician Khyam Allami, Dorothée Munyaneza
tries to breathe new life into the lives and dreams of Tituba. The men and women
whose identities and existences were denied and squashed by slave trade and
colonial regimes. Through words. Through the body. Through the space the voice
takes up, and through song.
Dorothée visualises a physical archive capable of gathering memories and
honouring them. A living, sensitive, physical and bodily archive, where
experiences are gathered. A solo conceived as a cross-pollination, a hybrid
space. African, but also American, European, Caribbean, ... A space full of
traces, dreams, and violence.

Louis and Rau are long-time friends, a friendship which arose from their shared
search for an art of reality. “The existential core of theatre is the same as
that of literature: to show what is difficult to show. Theatre should not be a
safe space,” Louis wrote about Rau’s play Familie.
With The Interrogation, Rau and Louis present a very personal text about doubt
and failure. The play was written in the spring of 2021, at the time
commissioned by Kunstenfestivaldesarts, IIPM & NTGent, but it never premiered.
Now, it finally takes to the stage. Performed by NTGent ensemble actor Arne De
Tremerie, The Interrogation is a ‘demonstration of vulnerability’, a moment of
poetic stillness.
Can art help us escape our biography, or is art merely a reflection of a failed
escape? “It’s a deeply melancholic play, a fragmentary play, a tender play,”
said Louis and Rau in an interview – a constant exchange of thoughts about
theatre and reality, failure and transformation, fiction and truth, about
becoming and being.

STAN created an open-air performance in the summer of 2022 in Elefsina (Greece),
the birthplace of Greek tragedy writer Aeschylus. In 2024 they join forces with
Olympique Dramatique to adapt Clytaemnestra for the theatre. In this
performance, three versions of the famous Greek tragedy come together:
Aeschylus’ original text, Ted Hughes’ masterful English translation, and the raw
interpretation Blood Bath by Gustav Ernst. By placing these three readings in
parallel, the bottomless hunger for war and toxic masculinity come to the
surface, and we see the character of Agamemnon in a new light.
The cast consists of a group of Belgian and Greek actors, as well as a Filipino
and a Norse performer. A polyphonic ensemble that embodies various perspectives
and uncovers the dynamics between dancers and actors. A dissection of misogyny,
both 2500 years ago and today. Of hunger for power and of violence, and of the
indifference with which we undergo brutalities. An inquiry of current-day
(gender) identities and truths. With the formal framework of: when does
intuition take over from rationality?

On 25 December 2021, the James Webb Space Telescope was launched. This infrared
telescope is the biggest and most sophisticated space telescope ever, which
allows scientists to look deep into the universe and into the past. It is used
among others to seek out the ‘cosmic dawn’: the light of the very first stars,
which came into being shortly after the birth of our universe.
But more than the voyage of discovery the telescope makes, Meirhaeghe is
fascinated by the capability of the human mind to rise above itself and the
universe. The vast endlessness of the universe engulfs us; science is constantly
seeking, but our imagination is absolute.
His companion on this trip past the borders of our body and our time is the

But a still life is not about lifeless objects or about the absolute stillness
of a world without human meaning, according to arts and architecture philosopher
Bart Verschaffel. He says: “In the painter’s workshop the objects might be
motionless, but in his painting they move.”
After her last creation 11 Seconds, in which she let audiences stare at a photo
of a museum for an hour in a playful thought experiment about art, Charlotte
Bouckaert now turns her gaze onto daily life in You Are an Object to Me. Her
question: how can we challenge the ideas of stillness and immobility that
surround objects?

For this new creation, Lieselotte De Keyzer and Kobe Chielens adapt the play
text The Birds by Greek comedic writer Aristophanes. They invite actors Louise
Bergez and Hans Mortelmans as well as visual artist Sibran Sampers. Using the
rhyming play text, visuals, and dance, the five of them construct their own
version of the play.
The Birds is a cheerful play, in stark contrast with the sombre message of the
text.

For C la vie, Serge Aimé Coulibaly immerses himself in the traditional events
and forms that accompany the cycles of life. On the one hand, the Western
tradition of carnival, on the other hand, the West African tradition of the Wara
of the Senufo region. From an exploration of the history and the different forms
and evolutions of these ancient rituals of transgression and their dances, he
develops a new ritual of celebration for our contemporary world. And for the
first time, trance and overcoming trance are now an integral part of the
creation’s development.
Percussion virtuoso and multi- instrumentalist- expert in Indian, African and
European music - Stéphane Edouard composes the musical creation and joins
the team onstage, with a multitude of percussion and music. Composer Magic
Malik, who previously composed the music for Wakatt, will also provide the
musical dramaturgy for C la vie.

You’ll discover that the spontaneous but unorthodox way that these texts are
recited from the wings is just as interesting for the reader as for the
listener. The extracts for each edition are picked by a professional theatre
creator, writer, editor or translator who wants to share their love for stage
texts today, no matter where they’re from.

Peltzman was sucked into this story of people he has never known and developed a
‘bond’ with his uncle, Norbert Stern, a brilliant pianist who was murdered in
Auschwitz at the age of 21. Peltzman experienced the heritable nature of
Holocaust trauma first-hand and shares how he, as the second generation after
the survivors, has given a place to this trauma and how music has helped him to
soften wounds that can never fully heal.

In S 62° 58', W 60° 39' a ship has run aground and is stuck between icebergs. A
small community is trapped in this dangerous, forsaken land. They survive guided
only by nature and wait for the ice to meltso they can continue their journey.
Suddenly the play becomes a performance within a performance as we land in an
alternate reality: that of the artists and director creating the play. Are we
seeing the character or the artist playing the character? In a sense, the real
performance plays out in the heads of the audience members. But what is acting
and what is real? Are the performers manipulated by the director, or do they
manipulate him? And what about the audience? Who manipulates who?
With S 62° 58', W 60° 39' Peeping Tom presents a new, visually impressive,
cinematographic performance that investigates human relations, daily
manipulations and intergenerational spirits, but that also digs deep into
artistry, into what it means to surrender to the stage as a performer, and the
falsehoods in what is presented as real.

In zekere zin speelt
