parts of our lives.
Financial power is a concept that becomes more intangible with each attempt to
understand it, often hiding itself in tall buildings. Through extensive research
on the development of global capitalism, stock markets and big corporations,
artist/filmmaker Bob Demper tries to understand the impact it has on our
existence. Demper looks at how the risk taken by the corporate world is almost
always a public risk, and how this relentless pursuit of growth has resulted in
polarisation, confusion and a lack of understanding of what’s governing our
everyday life.
At 1646, the audience can walk through carefully crafted film sets. Spaces that
make us feel the tension between these opaque financial worlds and our private
space, where we find ourselves on the edge of dreams and reality.

Wie museum Panorama Mesdag binnengaat, staat ineens midden in het grootste schilderij van Nederland, kijkt 360 graden in het rond en beleeft het Scheveningen aan het eind van de 19e eeuw. Met zijn 14 meter hoogte en een omtrek van niet minder dan 120 meter roept het cilindervormige schilderij een magische illusie van de werkelijkheid op.
Hendrik Willem Mesdag voltooide met hulp van zijn vrouw Sientje Mesdag- van Houten, en Haagse Schoolschilders De Bock, Blommers en Breitner, zijn inmiddels wereldwijd bekende panorama. Zij deden dit in minder dan 4 maanden. Het Panorama van Scheveningen is een uniek cultuurhistorische fenomeen. Het oudste panorama ter wereld dat op de oorspronkelijke locatie is behouden.
De museumcollectie van Panorama Mesdag bestaat -naast het indrukwekkende Panorama van Scheveningen– uit bijna honderd schilderijen van Hendrik Willem Mesdag en zijn vrouw Sientje Mesdag-van Houten. De collectie biedt het meest gevarieerde én complete overzicht van Hendrik Willems en Sientjes oeuvre ter wereld.
