Edward Luengo
Description
********** English **********
What makes the sound of a cello so beautiful and special? Is it the resemblance to the human voice? The warm tone? The soft, dark sound character? This concert honours one of the most expressive instruments, played here by young musician Edward Luengo, who won first prize at the Buchet International Cello Competition at the Brussels Cello Festival in 2022. With his Sonata in C for Cello and Piano Op. 65, Benjamin Britten pays tribute to one of the world’s most illustrious cellists: Mstislav Rostropovich. In turn, the composition by Andrea Casarrubios, herself a cellist, is an intense and elegiac tribute to healthcare workers during the pandemic. And finally, there is Frédéric Chopin’s Sonata for Cello and Piano, Op. 65, the last work published during his lifetime.
