Here’s a cult band that - with its explosive, urban mix of music genres, rhythms, languages and cultures - has evolved into a high quality brand, appreciated by both the international press and audiences all over. Add to that the typically Belgian pinch of self-derision and understatement and the result is a band with the energy of rock (without guitars!), the improvised twist of jazz, the open-minded approach of world music and the eagerness of a street band.

Well-rooted in their hometown Brussels the band's unique identity is yet enforced by their poetic and socially committed lyrics, celebrating the cultural melting pot of our modern day world. The optimistic undertone convincingly states that another world is possible, raising a fist rather than a middle finger. The band’s many live concerts have made them disciplined musicians, yet always ready to improvise. Jaune Toujours gigs are lively and festive, but avoid clichés and never lose musicality. Jaune Toujours’ sound is so natural that it’s deceptive and at first might give the casual listener the impression of simplicity, when it’s really their musicianship and the particular humanist angle from which they approach cross cultural composing, that makes their music sound as if it’s been around forever.

Jaune Toujours, groupe au statut "culte" dès ses débuts, se voit aujourd’hui plébisciter dans le circuit live international. Son mélange de styles explosif et urbain, chanté en plusieurs langues, est apprécié par le public et la presse bien au-delà des frontières belges. Avec l’énergie d’un groupe de rock (sans guitares!), le plaisir d’improvisation d’un combo de jazz, l’ouverture d’esprit de la musique du monde et le charisme des musiciens de rues, ils considèrent l’état du monde de façon poétique et pertinente. Ajoutons à cela une pincée d’autodérision typiquement bruxelloise et la recette est complète.

L’identité unique de Jaune Toujours se reflète dans les textes engagés du chanteur-accordéoniste Piet Maris. Grâce à sa diversité culturelle et sociale, Bruxelles leur offre une source inexhaustible de thèmes sociaux à traiter. Mais ce qu’on entend surtout, c’est un son optimiste qui nous persuade qu’un autre monde est possible. Plutôt un poing en l’air qu’un doigt levé.

Jaune Toujours kan gerust Belgiës leading mestizo band worden genoemd, met een aanzienlijke staat van dienst. En met de nodige navolging, zowel in Brussel als daarbuiten. Mestizo, dat is volgens Wikipedia: een mengelmoes van latin, salsa, reggae, ska, rock, punk en hip hop. Maar Jaune Toujours legt meer nadruk op balkan dan op latin of salsa, en ruilt hip hop voor groove. De mix van de ingrediënten is minder opvallend, maar des te efficiënter. Of met de woorden van Andrew Cronshaw over Jaune Toujours, in het eminente Engelse muziekmagazine fROOTS: "Not like a fusionist thing where now you hear this influence, now another; this is so natural that it feels it's always been there. It seemed to me on that first encounter that I was hearing a present-day roots music that couldn't come from anywhere but Brussels.”

Jaune Toujours evolueerde van een band met Brusselse cultstatus naar een internationaal geapprecieerde kwaliteitsband binnen het live circuit. Hun explosieve, stedelijke mengeling van muziekgenres, ritmes, culturen en talen bekoort publiek en pers tot ver buiten de landsgrenzen. Met de energie van een rockgroep (zonder gitaren!) het improvisatieplezier van een jazzcombo, de open-mindedness van een wereldmuziekgroep en het charisma van de straatmuzikant belten ze hun poëtisch pertinente samenlevingsbeschouwingen van de daken. Voeg daar een snuif typisch Brusselse zelfrelativering aan toe en je weet op welk feestje je bent.

Jaune Toujours is een geroutineerde band, maar nooit vies van improvisatie. Hun concerten zijn altijd levendig en feestelijk, maar met de nodige muzikaliteit en zonder in clichés te vervallen.
