Following the elections of June 9th, 2024, a new edition of the Parliament of Writers will take place. Flemish and Francophone authors combine their diverse reflections on the world and the role of writing. 
Beyond the political turmoil, they invite you to contemplate real or imaginary worlds. In these times of polarization, nuance is sought; fake news gives way to critical thinking. Expect an evening imbued with poetry and imagination, beauty and comfort. In the fall of 2023, we organized the first three editions of the Parliament of Writers at the Senate. This new edition is a sort of "best of," a season finale in the Henri Le Bœuf hall at Bozar. Some writers return, others join them. 
With Sophie Vandeveugle, Jeroen Olyslaegers, Ish Ait Hamou, and Vinciane Despret. The moderators are Pascal Claude and Nicky Aerts. 
Everyone speaks their own language, and simultaneous translation is provided.

C’est dans la foulée des élections du 09 juin 2024 qu’aura lieu une nouvelle édition du Parlement des écrivains. Des auteurs flamands et francophones conjuguent leurs différentes réflexions sur le monde et le rôle de l’écriture.
Au-delà de l'agitation politique, ils vous invitent à réfléchir sur des mondes réels ou imaginaires. En ces temps de polarisation, la nuance est recherchée ; les fake news cèdent la place à la pensée critique. Attendez-vous à une soirée empreinte de littérature et d'imagination, de beauté et de réconfort.
À l'automne 2023, nous avions organisé les trois premières éditions du Parlement des écrivains au Sénat. Cette nouvelle édition est une sorte de "best of", une “finale” de saison dans la salle Henri Le Bœuf à Bozar. Certains écrivains reviennent,  d'autres les rejoignent. 
Avec Sophie Vandeveugle, Jeroen Olyslaegers, Ish Ait Hamou et Vinciane Despret. Les modérateurs sont Pascal Claude et Nicky Aerts.
Chacun parle sa propre langue et une traduction simultanée est prévue.

Vlak na de verkiezingen van 9 juni 2024 is er een nieuwe editie van Het Schrijversparlement. Vlaamse en Franstalige schrijvers reflecteren samen over de wereld en de rol van hun schrijverschap. 
Boven het politieke gewoel laten ze je nadenken over al dan niet denkbeeldige werelden. In tijden van polarisatie gaan ze op zoek naar nuance; fake news maakt plaats voor kritisch denken. Verwacht je aan een avond vol poëzie en verbeelding, schoonheid en troost. 
In het najaar van 2023 organiseerden we de eerste drie edities van het Schrijversparlement in de senaat. Deze editie is een soort ‘best of’- editie en seizoenafsluiter onder eigen dak, in de Henri Le Boeufzaal in Bozar. Sommige schrijvers waren er afgelopen najaar bij, andere vervoegen hen. 
Iedereen spreekt zijn eigen taal en er is simultaanvertaling voorzien.

WEEK 1 Tuesday, 2 July at 12:30 Belgian author Lize Spit will read from her novel “The Honest Finder.” ‘The honest finder’ is set in Flemish Kempen in the late 1990s. Jimmy, who is going through a difficult time at home, completely revives when the son of a family of Kosovar refugees comes to sit next to him in class. Jimmy is the smartest but also loneliest in his class. He sees it as his mission to help Tristan Ibrahimi through the school year. All the time he doesn't spend collecting flippos, he spends with the Kosovar family. When the Ibrahimis are suddenly deported after a year, Tristan comes up with a plan that will demand a lot from Jimmy. Reading in Dutch, translation of text into French Moderated by: TBC Thursday, 4 July at 12:30 (IN FRENCH) National Poet in Belgium, Lisette Lombé, will read from her novel ‘Eunice.’ Eunice, nineteen years old, an athlete and a psychology student, has just been dumped by her boyfriend. Using alcohol and dancing to try to numb the sadness. Waking up with a severe hangover, the young woman thinks she has hit rock bottom but the numerous missed calls left on her cell phone by her father foreshadow the worst. Her mother, Jane, has died after falling into a river after leaving a nightclub. The investigation quickly concludes that it was a simple accident but Eunice refuses to believe it. What if a red diary found in a hair salon proved her right? What if the initials written on several pages were a clue? For Eunice, it is the beginning of a quest for truth in order to understand who her mother truly was, about whom she realizes she did not know that well. The shock of mourning reminds us that every family is a place of buried secrets. The meeting with the serene and superb Jennah marks a turning point towards appeasement. Eunice is a story of love, sisterhood, transmission and remission. It is also an awakening to tenderness and forgiveness. Reading in French, translation of text into English Moderated by: Alison Mooney, Poet and speech writer at the European Parliament WEEK 2 Tuesday, 9 July at 12:30 Maltese author Alex Farrugia will read an extract from his European Literature Prize 2024 nominated novel Ir-Re Borg (The King of Malta) The ‘King of Malta’ is a socio-political satirical novel. The story is not only inspired by Malta’s political crisis in 2019, but also reflects political events and phenomena in other countries. Mikiel Borg, a small business owner known as ‘Ic-Chopper’, is struggling with a deep depression caused by his trivial fight with the incredible Maltese bureaucracy. Until finally the idea sparks to launch ‘The Monarchical Party of Malta’. Against all odds he wins the elections challenging the established two-party system. Fuelled by his success he develops a populist megalomania. A viral media release initiates the abrupt demise of his political career. “ Reading in Maltese, translation of text into English Moderated by: Denise Chircop, Policy Analyst at European Parliament research service (EPRS) This reading is presented to you in cooperation with the European Union Literature Prize. The European Union Prize for Literature (EUPL), launched in 2009, celebrates emerging fiction writers from over 40 European countries. EUPL brings visibility to diverse literary talents and promote cross-border circulation of literature within Europe. It is organised by the Federation of European Publishers and the European and International Booksellers Federation. Thursday, 11 July at 12:30 Jayrôme C Robinet will read from his novel ‘My way from a white woman to a young man with a migration background.’ The novel tells a very personal story that takes the reader on a journey between two genders. As a white French woman living in Berlin, the slow transition into a man begins. The physical changes bring along the experience of a second puberty. His new outward appearance does not only give him a new gender identity, but also makes him appear as a foreigner. In the many small things and encounters of everyday life, he becomes aware of how perception and behaviour of his environment suddenly change. Through his own life experience, first as a woman and then as a man, a direct comparison of both worlds becomes obvious. It is an exciting discovery that with the transition of gender, origin and age also appear to change. In addition to excerpts from this novel, other literary works by the author will be presented, to widen the insight into his queer everyday life and the incredible social reactions it brings along. Lieslaarsman presenteert: Wide Vercnocke

Lieslaarsman is een personage dat werd gecreëerd door tekenaar Wide Vercnocke, maar vanavond draaien we de rollen om en zullen de grenzen tussen feit en fictie, tussen schepper en creatie, tussen mens en medemens vervagen. Lieslaarsman neemt over en samen met de Brusselse zielsverwanten Lize Spit, Agneskena en Alex Deforce tekent hij Wide Vercnocke. De wereld wordt voor uw ogen omgekeerd. Komt dat zien! Tekenaar Wide Vercnocke maakte 5 jaar lang cartoons voor stadsmagazine Bruzz, waarin het rijke culturele netwerk in deze wonderlijke stad de hoofdrol speelde. Dat leverde heel veel prachtige stripstroken op, en zijn nieuwe boek, opnieuw heel mooi uitgegeven bij Bries, bevat een compilatie van deze tekeningen. Er werden evenementen mee aangekondigd en gevierd, en toen de covidcontainer op slot ging, werden de cartoons een van de levenslijnen die de culturele sector adem gaf. Na drie enigszins tot ronduit surrealistische graphic novels waarin Vercnocke droomwerelden gestalte gaf en poëzie in kleuren ving, volgde met Drieman een heel persoonlijk boek over de geschiedenis van zijn familie en het zwarte oorlogsverleden van zijn grootvader. Nu is er een nieuw boek, bijzonder fraai uitgegeven en verrassend in elke prent. Lieslaarsman, een ambigu personage dat voortdurend terugkomt, drukt zijn stempel op dit boek, waarin de Brusselse creativiteit wordt gevierd en zal ook tijdens de boekpresentatie de hoofdrol opeisen en de avond vorm geven. Hij zal het met zijn gasten Lize Spit, Agneskena en Alex Deforce hebben over discipline en verlokking, surrealisme en eigenheid, Brussels plezier en Belgisch verdriet. over de gasten Lize Spit (1988) woont sinds 2005 in Brussel. In 2016 verscheen haar debuutroman Het smelt, waarvan meer dan 250.000 exemplaren werden verkocht, dat werd vertaald in zestien landen en verfilmd door Veerle Baetens. In 2020 verscheen haar tweede roman Ik ben er niet en vorig jaar had ze de eer om met De eerlijke vinder het Boekenweekgeschenk te schrijven. Ze is gastdocent creatief schrijven aan het RITCS en columnist bij De Morgen. Fotografe Agneskena is geboren en getogen in Brussel. Ze fotografeert voor Bruzz, waarin ze o.m,. de maandelijkse rubriek Street Life verzorgt. Ze had al verschillende exposities, o.m. Traditional Love en Is That Your Brother? Dichter en illustrator Alex Deforce (1984) woont sinds zijn achttiende in Brussel. Hij zette zijn eerste dichterlijke stappen in 2019. Hij werkte samen met o.m. Brihang, Charlotte Jacobs en presenteert Nonchalance Calculée op Kiosk Radio, een show over poëzie, de kunst van het tooghangen en de Brusselse tongval. Hij werkt aan zijn debuutbundel en andere releases. Als er nog tijd is, zou ook Wide Vercnocke zich kunnen vertonen. Samen zorgen ze voor een Brusselse caleidoscoop van woord, beeld en geluid in een unieke Lieslaarsmanmix. Het wordt een aparte avond in Passa Porta, die mogelijk een verlengstuk krijgt met een afterparty bij Lord Byron.
