Yuşan Zillya

The Crimean Tatars, a Turkish-speaking ethnic group, belong to the original population of the Crimean peninsula. After being deported to Central Asia under Stalin in 1944, they were unable to return until Ukraine gained independence in 1991. Since the annexation of Crimea in 2014, they have once again suffered massive repression.

In this project the Crimean Tatar multi-instrumentalist Djemil Karikov and his daughter Nial Khalilova meet the Ukrainian singer and actress Natalia Rybka-Parkhomenko, who is also part of Kurbasy. As an ethno-musicologist, Djemil Karikov has rescued numerous folk songs from obscurity and contributed to the revival of a number of national musical instruments.

In 2021, he published an anthology of traditional Crimean Tatar music “Qırımnın yerli muzıkası” (“Music of Crimea”). Together they combine two cultures, two languages ​​and two collectivities in this project. Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar folk songs. In the Crimean Tatar and Ukrainian tradition, the plant “Yuşan” has a symbolic meaning: it would help not to forget one’s own roots and culture.

A CONCERT AT ARIANE'S
Ariane decided to settle in Jette 10 years ago after growing up in the Netherlands and living in South America and Asia. A nature lover with a strong sense of community, she found her happiness in this green, village-like neighborhood. Ariane plays guitar, is learning piano, practices blues harmonica, and enjoys folk dancing at Muziekpublique. She especially loves when music becomes a vibrant, collective experience that brings people together. According to her, taking part in the Living Room Music Winter Sessions is a wonderful way to bring more cultural activities to the northwest of Brussels.

LIVING ROOM MUSIC WINTER SESSIONS
As part of its nomadic season, Muziekpublique presents the Living Room Music Winter Sessions. 19 concerts in apartments across the 19 municipalities of Brussels. 19 homes opening their doors, 19 intimate evenings of live music to experience traditional tunes from all corners of the world, and the sheer joy of sharing the love of music with neighbors, friends, or family.

Les Tatars de Crimée appartiennent au peuple autochtone de Crimée, un groupe ethnique turcophone vivant à l’origine dans la péninsule de Crimée. En 1944, ils ont été déportés en Asie centrale sous la direction de Staline. Les Tatars de Crimée n’ont pas été autorisés à retourner dans leur région jusqu’à ce que l’Ukraine obtienne son indépendance en 1991. Après l’annexion de la Crimée en 2014, nombreux d’entre eux ont de nouveau été forcés de migrer. Ils ont depuis subi une répression et fait face à des arrestations massives de la part du régime russe.

Dans ce projet, Djemil Karikov, multi-instrumentiste tatar de Crimée, et sa fille Nial Khalilova rencontrent la chanteuse et actrice ukrainienne Natalia Rybka-Parkhomenko. Ensemble, ils combinent deux cultures, deux langues et deux peuples.

Suite à l’annexion de la Crimée, Djemil Karikov et Nial Khalilova ont été contraints de quitter leur patrie en 2014 et ont émigré à Lviv. C’est là qu’ils ont rencontré la chanteuse Natalia Rybka-Parkhomenko. Ensemble, ils ont développé le projet « Yuşan-Zillya ». Dans la tradition ukrainienne et tatare de Crimée, la plante « Yuşan » a une signification symbolique : elle aiderait à ne pas oublier ses propres racines et sa propre culture

UN CONCERT CHEZ ARIANE
Ariane a décidé de jeter l’ancre à Jette il y a 10 ans après avoir grandi en Hollande et vécu en Amérique du Sud et en Asie. Aimant la nature et l’esprit de communauté, elle a trouvé son bonheur dans cette commune verte et villageoise. Ariane joue de la guitare, apprend le piano, fait de l’harmonica blues et de la danse folk à Muziekpublique. Elle aime particulièrement quand la musique est une expérience vivante et collective qui rassemble les gens. Participer aux Living Room Music Winter Sessions c’est une belle manière d’amener plus d’activités culturelles dans le nord-ouest de Bruxelles.

In dit project ontmoeten de Krim-Tartaarse multi-instrumentalist Djemil Karikov en zijn dochter Nial Khalilova de Oekraïense zangeres en actrice Natalia Rybka-Parkhomenko, die ook deel uitmaakt van Kurbasy. Als etno-musicoloog heeft Djemil Karikov talloze volksliederen uit de vergetelheid gehaald en bijgedragen aan de heropleving van een aantal nationale muziekinstrumenten. In 2021 publiceerde hij een bloemlezing van traditionele Krim-Tataarse muziek “Qırımnın yerli muzıkası” (“Muziek van de Krim”). Samen combineren ze in dit project twee culturen, twee talen en twee volkeren. Oekraïense en Krim-Tataarse volksliederen. In de Krim-Tataarse en Oekraïense traditie heeft de plant “Yuşan” een symbolische betekenis: het zou helpen om de eigen wortels en cultuur niet te vergeten.

EEN CONCERT BIJ ARIANE
Ariane besloot 10 jaar geleden om zich in Jette te vestigen, nadat ze was opgegroeid in Nederland en had gewoond in Zuid-Amerika en Azië. Als natuurliefhebber met een sterk gemeenschapsgevoel, vond ze haar geluk in deze groene, dorpsachtige buurt. Ariane speelt gitaar, leert piano spelen, oefent bluesharmonica en danst graag folkloristische dansen bij Muziekpublique. Ze houdt vooral van het moment waarop muziek een levendige, gezamenlijke ervaring wordt die mensen samenbrengt. Volgens haar zijn de Winter Sessies van Living Room Music een geweldige manier om meer culturele activiteiten naar het noordwesten van Brussel te brengen.
