An artist of both the body and the image, Mercedes Dassy is moving with this eruptive quartet from the solo (i-Clit in 2018 and B4 Summer in 2020) to the collective. For her, choreography is based on aesthetics and politics in a lively triangulation. With backgrounds in contemporary dance, hip hop, Afrobeat and performance, the four performers in Ruuptuur confront the languages of their bodies, which are both constrained and enhanced by prostheses.

These hybrid beings, these cyborg-centauresses launch an assault on the break-up, in all its forms, as a necessary act of change. Moments of loudness and suspension, anarchy and anger, but also attention and care, adolescent energy and raw sisterhood make up this pagan ritual, at once cathartic and ferocious an attack on conventions. Standards and norms come under assault. Fear retreats. Courage is shared.

Artiste du corps et de l’image, Mercedes Dassy est passée du solo (i-Clit en 2018, B4 Summer en 2020) au collectif avec ce quatuor éruptif. La chorégraphie chez elle s’articule avec l’esthétique et le politique, dans une triangulation bouillonnante. Venues de la danse contemporaine, du hip-hop, de l’afrobeat, de la performance, les quatre interprètes de Ruuptuur entrechoquent ces langages de leurs corps à la fois contraints et augmentés de prothèses.

Les êtres hybrides, les cyborg-centauresses se lancent à l’assaut de la rupture, sous toutes ses formes, comme acte nécessaire de changement. Gros son et instants de suspension, anarchie et colère, mais aussi attention et soin, énergie adolescente et sororité brute, composent le rituel païen, cathartique et féroce, cette ruade dans les conventions. Les standards et les normes en prennent pour leur grade. Les peurs battent en retraite. Le courage se partage.

Als kunstenares van het lichaam en het beeld is Mercedes Dassy van solo (i-Clit in 2018, B4 Summer in 2020) naar collectieve choreografie gegaan met dit explosieve kwartet. Voor haar is choreografie vervlochten met esthetiek en politiek, in een bruisende driehoeksverhouding. Met achtergronden in hedendaagse dans, hiphop, Afrobeat en performance, laten de vier performers in Ruuptuur deze lichaamstalen botsen, lichamen die zowel beperkt als vergroot worden door protheses.

Deze hybride wezens, deze cyborg-centauresses, lanceren zichzelf in de aanval van de breuk, in al zijn vormen, als een noodzakelijke daad van verandering.  Intens geluid en momenten van opschorting, anarchie en woede, maar ook aandacht en zorg, puberale energie en rauw zusterschap, vormen dit heidense ritueel. Zowel cathartisch als woest, zo’n stormloop door de conventie. Standaarden en normen eisen hun tol. De angsten trekken zich terug. De moed wordt gedeeld.
