Bon Enfant

Bon Enfant, c’est un quintette aussi pluriel que ses membres et ses horizons musicaux, pour qui le rock est une passion autant qu’un mode de vie - un moteur ardent le propulse. Formé à la fin de la précédente décennie par Daphné Brissette et Guillaume Chiasson afin de s'octroyer des terrains nouveaux en marge de leurs pratiques antérieures, le groupe est rapidement complété par Etienne Côté (LUMIÈRE), Melissa Fortin et Alex Burger - et ne tarde pas à livrer un premier album homonyme qui sera célébré comme meilleur franco de l’année 2019 par Le Devoir et récompensé du Lucien de l’Album rock de l’année suivante au GAMIQ.

Affirmant d’emblée une pop aux grooves bien-allants empruntant notamment au folk-rock et au psych, la formation rapplique deux ans plus tard avec un Diorama à la palette encore plus vaste, y intégrant des aspects de musique à l’image, de disco, de hard et de glam rock - un probant assemblage qui lui vaudra le Félix de l’Album rock de l’année au gala de l’ADISQ 2022.

C’est pas long que les tournées s’enchaînent au Québec, en Europe et au Royaume-Uni - un début d’engouement global discréditant l’enjeu territorial de la langue au profit d’avoir des bonnes tounes. Façonnant un rock perméable et ouvert en évitant le pastiche toujours, le groupe persiste dans son adaptation des résonances populaires tout en faisant siennes de nouvelles niches musicales.

Aux thèmes chers et saillants d’affirmation de soi, d’amour de la musique et d’amour tout court et griffé des sonorités bariolées bien caractéristiques de Bon Enfant, Demande spéciale arrive comme un album intégral, qui fait du bien, qu’on écoute pour se faire plaisir - et qui paraîtra cet automne sous Duprince, en amont de tournées partout, tout le temps.

Bon Enfant is een kwintet dat zo divers is als zijn leden en muzikale horizonten, voor wie rock evenzeer een passie als een manier van leven is – een vurige motor die hen voortstuwt. De groep werd aan het eind van het vorige decennium opgericht om nieuwe wegen in te slaan, en het duurde niet lang voor ze hun gelijknamige debuutalbum uitbrachten. Vanaf het begin hebben de popgrooves van de band geleend van folkrock en psych, en twee jaar later keerden ze terug met ‘Diorama’, een plaat met een zo mogelijk nog breder muzikaal palet.

Het duurde niet lang voor de band voorbij de grenzen van Quebec toerde, en Europa en de UK waren al snel nieuwe bestemmingen. Die werden in een razend tempo gevolgd door alweer een nieuw album. Deze herfst verscheen ‘Demande’, een plaat vol gekoesterde thema’s als zelfbevestiging, liefde voor muziek en romantische liefde, en een die je met een geweldig gevoel achterlaat.

Bon Enfant is a quintet as plural as its members and musical horizons, for whom rock is a passion as much as a way of life - a fiery engine that propels them forward. Formed at the end of the previous decade by Daphné Brissette and Guillaume Chiasson to break new ground outside their previous practices, the group was soon joined by Etienne Côté (LUMIÈRE), Melissa Fortin and Alex Burger - and soon delivered a homonymous debut album, celebrated as the best Franco of 2019 by Le Devoir journal and awarded the Lucien for Rock Album of the following year at GAMIQ.

From the outset, the band's groovy pop sound borrowed notably from folk-rock and psych, and two years later they came back with Diorama, an even broader palette, incorporating aspects of image music, disco, hard rock and glam rock - a convincing combination that earned them the Félix for Rock Album of the Year at the 2022 ADISQ gala.

It wasn't long before the band was touring Quebec, Europe and the U.K. - the beginning of a global craze that discredited the territorial issue of language in favor of good tunes. Shaping a permeable, open-minded rock that always avoids pastiche, the band persists in adapting popular resonances while making new musical niches their own.

With its cherished themes of self-affirmation, love of music and just plain love, and stamped with Bon Enfant's trademark brightly colored sounds, Demande spéciale is a feel-good, full-length album that's a pleasure to listen to - and will be released this fall by Duprince Records, ahead of tours everywhere, all the time.
