Corneille along the joy

Come and discover the work of Guillaume Corneille (1922-2010), a prolific artist and extraordinary colourist. Throughout his life, Corneille sought joy everywhere: he exalted it in the luxuriance of nature and in various parts of the world, and also alongside his friends and the artists who fascinated him, or in homage to the beauty of women.
The exhibition allows you to experience all the creative periods of the artist, for whom printmaking was a constant practice. Enriched with over 150 works, the journey will thrill you with the diversity of his approaches, the constancy of his energy, his poetry, his relationship with animal life, and everything that makes up the splendour of the world. He is one of the greatest colourists of the art of the second half of the 20th century, from his COBRA years to his admiration for Van Gogh—who was like him a Dutchman settled to Auvers-sur-Oise.
This special exhibition is designed with the valuable assistance of the Guillaume Corneille Foundation.

L’exposition vous permet de vivre toutes les périodes créatives de l’artiste pour qui l’estampe est une pratique constante. Riche de plus de 150 œuvres, le parcours vous enthousiasmera par la diversité de ses approches, la constance de son énergie, sa poésie, sa relation à la vie animale et de tout ce qui fait la splendeur du monde. Il est l’un des plus grands coloristes de l’Art de la seconde moitié du XXe siècle et ce, dès ses années COBRA jusqu’à son admiration pour Van Gogh, comme lui hollandais installé à Auvers‑sur‑Oise.

Maak kennis met het werk van Guillaume Corneille (1922-2010), vruchtbaar kunstenaar en buitengewoon colorist. Zijn leven lang ging Corneille overal op zoek naar vreugde: hij verheerlijkte ze in de weelderige natuur, overal ter wereld, maar ook aan de zijde van zijn vrienden en van de kunstenaars die hem fascineerden, of in zijn eerbetoon aan de schoonheid van de vrouw.
De tentoonstelling gunt je een blik op alle creatieve periodes van de kunstenaar die tal van gedrukte prenten uitgaf. Het wordt een betoverende reis langs meer dan 150 werken, stuk voor stuk getuigen van verschillende benaderingen, een nooit tanende energie, een rijke poëzie en een liefde voor dieren en voor alle pracht die de wereld te bieden heeft. Corneille was een van de grootste coloristen van de tweede helft van de 20e eeuw, van zijn COBRA-jaren tot zijn bewondering voor Van Gogh, net als hijzelf een Nederlander die woonde in Auvers-sur-Oise.
Deze bijzondere tentoonstelling kwam tot stand met de kostbare hulp van de Fondation Guillaume Corneille.
