Fiction that changes the world, Re-opening horizons

Can fiction be an act of creation and transformation?
How does our engagement with the world relate to our imaginative capacities?
The wild laboratory Désorceler la finance invites us to reflect collectively on the power of fiction to bolster a culture of collective commons, at the intersection of politics, witchcraft and the arts. Taking the form of participatory cartomancy, "Fictions that change the world" acts as a conversational tool: each of the cards drawn is subject to the reading and interpretation of its audience.
In the spaces of the CA$H exhibition at Art et Marges Museum, participants are invited to sit around a table and connect their energies. A master of ceremonies presents and reveals the cards: the discussion begins, building and orienting itself as new cards are added. At the end of this sixty-minute exchange, the participants work together to formulate a magical act. A shared gesture, conjuration or incantation, to regain the power to act and reopen their horizons.

Re-opening Horizons is a series of three decks of cards which can be drawn from: Deregulation of Financial Markets, (Dérèglement du jeu de la finance), Abandonment of Tax Havens (Quitter les paradis fiscaux), and “Fictions that change the world” (Des fictions qui changent le monde). Each deck has its own objective, but the way in which the cards are drawn is fixed. Between 7 and 10 people sit around a table (preferably round), in a candlelit room, the fumes of incense and Palo Santo burning in the background, and light percussive music playing in the background. A master of ceremonies presents the cards and reveals them one after the other. As new cards are added to the conversation, the discussion builds, shifts, and becomes finer and sharper. At the end of the 30-45 minutes of dialogue, as if regaining power over their horizon, the participants create, write and pronounce an incantatory or conjuring formula.

Le laboratoire sauvage Désorceler la finance invite à porter une réflexion collective sur le pouvoir de la fiction à muscler une culture des communs, à l’intersection du politique, des pratiques sorcières et artistiques. Sous une forme de cartomancie participative, « Des fictions qui changent le monde » agit comme un outil conversationnel : chacune des cartes tirées se soumet à la lecture et à l’interprétation de son audience.
Dans les espaces de l’exposition CA$H du Art et marges musée, les participant.es sont invitées à s’installer autour d’une table et à relier leurs énergies. Un.e maître.sse de cérémonie présente et dévoile les cartes : la discussion s’engage, se construit et s’oriente au fur et à mesure que de nouvelles cartes s’ajoutent. Au terme de cet échange d’une soixantaine de minutes, les participant.es formulent en commun un acte magique. Un geste partagé, conjuration ou incantation, pour retrouver une puissance d’agir, ré-ouvrir son horizon.


Ré-ouvrir les horizons est une série composée de trois jeux de cartes à tirer : Dérèglement du jeu de la finance, Quitter les paradis fiscaux et “Des fictions qui changent le monde”. Chaque jeu a son objectif propre mais le dispositif dans lequel les cartes sont tirées est un invariant. Entre 7 et 10 personnes s’installent autour d’une table (ronde de préférence), dans un espace éclairé à la bougie, dans des vapeurs d’encens et de palo santo, avec un fond musical légèrement percussif. Un.e maître.sse de cérémonie présente les cartes et les dévoile les unes à la suite des autres. La discussion s’engage et se construit, se ré-oriente, se précise au fur et à mesure que de nouvelles cartes s’ajoutent à la conversation. Au bout des 30-45 minutes de dialogue, comme une reprise de pouvoir sur leur horizon, les participant.es créent, rédigent et prononcent une formule incantatoire ou conjuratoire.

Hoe verhoudt onze betrokkenheid bij de wereld zich tot ons verbeeldingsvermogen?
Het wilde laboratorium Désorceler la finance nodigt ons uit om collectief na te denken over de kracht van fictie om een cultuur van commons op te bouwen, op het kruispunt van politiek, hekserij en kunst. In de vorm van participatieve cartomantie werkt "Ficties die de wereld veranderen" als een conversatie-middel: elke getrokken kaart is onderhevig aan de lezing en interpretatie van het publiek.
In de ruimtes van de CA$H tentoonstelling in het Art et marges museum worden deelnemers*emsters uitgenodigd om rond een tafel te gaan zitten en hun energieën te verbinden.
Een ceremoniemeester*es presenteert en onthult de kaarten: de conversatie begint, bouwt zich op en oriënteert zich terwijl nieuwe kaarten worden toegevoegd. Aan het einde van deze zestig minuten durende uitwisseling werken de deelnemers*emsters samen om een magisch ritueel te formuleren. Een gezamenlijk gebaar, bezwering of incantatie, om de kracht om te handelen terug te vinden en hun horizon te her-openen.
