The Korean Cultural Center Brussels we are very pleased to host two incredible cellists, Ye-
Won Cho and Yoonsoo Yeo accompanied by Katsura Mitzumoto on the piano. The concert
will take place this following February 29th, 2024 at 20:00h in the Korean Cultural Center.
Both musicians are since September 2023 part of the artist-in-residence from the Queen
Elisabeth Music Chapel, center that has been working closely since 2015 with the KCC.

The program for the splendid recital taking place in the Korean Cultural Center is composed
of five music pieces where both musicians will play for turns, starting with Ye-Won Cho
performance with the pianist, followed by Yoonsoo, and then they will finish the evening
performing together with the amazing pianist, Katsura Mizumoto, who will accompany the
cellists once more.

Ye-Won Cho, a South Korean cellist, started her musical studies at the age of three. When she was 15, she got a special admission in Korea National University of Arts and after, she started her Bachelor Degree at the same university. She graduated early and in September 2023, she became an artist in residence at the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Belgium. Ye-Won Cho has received many awards in lots of international competitions such as Antonio Janigro International Cello Competition Junior, and also second prize at Popper International Cello Competition in Hungary and more.

Ye-Won Cho’s colleague, Yoonsoo Yeo, is also joining her on the concert happening February 29th. Originary from New Zealand has been playing cello since 2009. In 2013 he also joined the same school as his colleague, Korea National Institute for Gifted Arts. When he turned 16 he carried on his musical studies in Philadelphia Music Institute studying with the amazing cellists Peter Wiley and Carter Brey. He has won the ‘Antonio Janigro international cello competition’ (2014) along with two special prizes. He has performed with numerous orchestras including Suwon Philharmonic orchestra, and since September 2013 he has been part of the artist-in-residence from the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel.

This institution, Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel was created by Queen Elisabeth as the name says, to help young talents, Eugène Ysaÿe, one of the greatest violinists and composers of his time helped the Queen to found the Institution.
They both created this center, inaugurated July 1939, and it has been supporting emerging artists, becoming a highly specialized school and international competition, also has been described as the “modern Villa Medici” by Emile Vuillermoz, a critic, because Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel teaches exceptionally talented young musicians.

Center will do in collaboration with the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, is the following one:

Ye-Won Cho, violoncelliste sud-coréenne, a commencé ses études musicales à l'âge de trois ans. Vanuit het Koreaans Cultureel Centrum Brussel zijn we zeer verheugd om Ye-Won Cho en Yoonsoo Yeo te verwelkomen op 29 februari 2024 om 20u00 in ons centrum. Beide musici maken sinds september 2023 deel uit van de artist-in-residence van de Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, een centrum dat sinds 2015 nauw samenwerkt met het KCC.

Het programma van het prachtige recital dat plaatsvindt in het Korean Cultural Center bestaat uit vijf muziekstukken waarin beide musici om beurten spelen, te beginnen met Ye-Won Cho optreden met de pianist, gevolgd door Yoonsoo, en dan eindigen ze de avond samen met de geweldige pianist Katsura Mizumoto, die de cellisten nog een keer zal begeleiden. cellisten zal begeleiden.

This concert by the Belgian National Orchestra and the Queen Elisabeth Competition enjoys the support of the FPS Chancellery of the Prime Minister and the National Lottery. The King and Queen will attend this concert.    South Korean soprano Sumi Hwang, winner of the Queen Elisabeth Singing Competition 2014, will sing some highlights from Puccini's operas in this gala concert, in addition to some songs by Richard Strauss. ********** Français ********** Mardi 16 juillet : Bart Jacobs & Les Muffatti - “Mister Handel’s invention” L'invention de M. Handel - Concertos pour orgue anglais du XVIIIe siècle Les concertos pour orgue de Georg Friederich Handel furent extrêmement populaires au XVIIIe siècle. Ils ont été joués pour la première fois en 1735 lors des représentations de ses grands oratorios dans les salles de concert de Londres pour le plus grand plaisir du public. La partie d'orgue virtuose a très certainement été jouée par « M. Handel » lui-même, qui était aussi un organiste hors pair. Il est devenu l'inventeur de la musique pour orgue solo et orchestre, et a également inspiré d'autres compositeurs. Lors de ce concert, vous entendrez quelques-uns de ces magnifiques concertos pour orgue anglais du XVIIIe siècle, écrits par Handel lui-même, et d’autres compositeurs influencés par lui. L’organiste-titulaire Bart Jacobs et Les Muffatti, connus pour leurs interprétations des concertos pour orgue de J.S. Vous entendrez l’un des meilleurs chœurs belges, le Chœur de la Cathédrale de Hasselt, dirigé par Ludo Claesen, ainsi que l’organiste Johan Hermans, qui sera à la fois soliste et accompagnateur. Mardi 6 août: l’organiste Karol Mossakowski (FR) - “Miroirs” Œuvres de J. S. Bach, W. A. Mozart, F. Mendelssohn, R. Schumann Le programme de ce concert réunit des œuvres de Bach et des grands compositeurs classiques et romantiques qu’il a influencés. Entre chaque œuvre, Karol Mossakowski improvisera des interludes pour nous amener d’un univers sonore à un autre en utilisant les éléments musicaux des œuvres écrites, et fera de ce moment un continuum sonore. Mardi 13 août : Duo d’orgue Megumi Tokuoka & Jean-Philippe Merckaert (JP/BE) “Quand l’orgue devient orchestre” Oeuvres de M. Ravel, A. Huybrechts, P. Dukas, A. Nishimura, C. Debussy Trois chefs-d'œuvre de la musique française, empruntés au répertoire d’orchestre et joués à 4 mains et 4 pieds, dialoguent avec les partitions des compositeurs belge Huybrechts et japonais Nishimura, moins connues mais profondément originales et audacieuses. . C'est le duo formé par Megumi Tokuoka, organiste japonaise 1er prix du Concours Schnitger (D), et Jean-Philippe Merckaert, montois d'origine et organiste du Metropolitan Theater de Tokyo, qui feront de l'orgue Grenzing un orchestre symphonique. Mardi 20 août : Laurens De Man, organiste (NL) - “La Magie du Feu” Oeuvres de M. Duruflé, I. Stravinsky, M. de Falla, J. Alain, J. S. Bach Le feu, un mystère ancestral, a toujours fasciné l'humanité. Dans ce concert, le feu résonne comme une force positive, comme une menace, comme une danse, comme un oiseau et comme un symbole de l'enthousiasme de la Pentecôte. Cette magie du Feu sera allumée par l'organiste hollandais Laurens De Man, lauréat de nombreux concours internationaux, et professeur d'orgue au Conservatoire d'Utrecht. Lundi 26 août - Xavier Deprez & Belgian Brass Soloists (Manu Mellaerts & Steven Devolder, trompetten-trompettes, Jan Smets, trombone, Rik Vercruysse, Hoorn-Cor, Stephan Vanaenrode, tuba) “Heroïc sounds” Oeuvres de C. Franck, V. Ewald, X. Deprez Ces cinq musiciens belges renommés forment la base de l’ensemble Belgian Brass, connu dans le monde entier comme un ensemble de cuivres de premier plan. Belgian Brass a été formé sous l'influence des cuivres de l'Opéra national de Belgique et de la Monnaie. Depuis 2003, ils se sont produits sur les scènes internationales du monde entier et sont très demandés pour des masterclasses. Grâce à leur formation symphonique, leur répertoire est naturellement étendu, du baroque à la pop. Dinsdag 13 augustus : Duo d’orgue Megumi Tokuoka & Jean-Philippe Merckaert (JP/BE) “Het orgel als orkest” Werken van M. Ravel, A. Huybrechts, P. Dukas, A. Nishimura, C. Debussy Drie meesterwerken uit de Franse muziek, ontleend aan het orkestrepertoire worden tijdens dit concert uitgevoerd voor 4 handen en 4 voeten. Daarnaast klinkt muziek van de Belgische componist Huybrechts en van de minder bekende, maar uiterst creatieve Japanse componist Nishimura. Het is het duo gevormd door Megumi Tokuoka, een Japanse organiste die de eerste prijs won op het Schnitger Concours (D), en Jean-Philippe Merckaert, afkomstig uit Mons en organist van het Metropolitan Theater in Tokyo, die het Grenzing-orgel in een symfonieorkest zullen veranderen. Dinsdag 20 augustus : Laurens De Man, organiste (NL) - “De magie van Vuur” Werken van M. Duruflé, I. Stravinsky, M. de Falla, J. Alain, J. S. Bach Vuur, een eeuwenoud mysterie, heeft de mensheid altijd gefascineerd. In dit concert weerklinkt vuur als een positieve kracht, als een bedreiging, als een dans, als een vogel en als een symbool van het enthousiasme van Pinksteren. Deze magie van het Vuur zal worden aangestoken door de Nederlandse organist Laurens De Man, winnaar van vele internationale concoursen en orgeldocent aan het Conservatorium van Utrecht. Maandag 26 augustus - Xavier Deprez & Belgian Brass Soloists (Manu Mellaerts & Steven Devolder, trompetten-trompettes, Jan Smets, trombone, Rik Vercruysse, Hoorn-Cor, Stephan Vanaenrode, tuba) “Heroïc sounds” Werken van C. Franck, V. Ewald, X. Deprez Vijf gerenommeerde Belgische muzikanten vormen de basis van het ensemble Belgian Brass, wereldwijd bekend als toonaangevend koperensemble. Belgian Brass is ontstaan onder invloed van de koperblazers van de Nationale Opera van België en de Munt. Sedert 2003 spelen ze op internationale podia over de hele wereld en zijn ze een veelgevraagd ensemble bij Masterclasses. Hun repertoire reikt van barokmuziek tot popmuziek. Samen met organist-titularis Xavier Deprez, spelen ze een uniek programma met originele werken en transcripties, en een wereldcreatie van Xavier Deprez.

K.G. Westman is one of Europe´s foremost sitar players in the field of North Indian classical and semi classical music. As a senior disciple of Pandit Rabindra Narayan Goswami he has performed in India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Egypt, Europe, USA and Russia as well as for radio and T.V. Due to training in both Indian and Western Music, he also makes an excellent teacher and conductor of workshops regardless of the background of the participants. K.G. Westman is one of the founders and main organizers of the Stockholm Sangeet Festival, Scandinavia’s most prestigious event for Indian Classical Music and dance, which has run continuously for over 15 years. The interest in Indian Music began when his father moved to Kerala in 1996. Already an accomplished guitar player and recording artist, he tried his hand at the Saraswati Veena, before making up his mind that the sitar was the instrument for him. Then in 2004 he started to learn the basics of sitar technique, raag and taal, first from Stian Grimstad, then also from Anil Singh of Dharamshala, before he was accepted as a student of Goswamiji in 2006. In 2017 the classical album Sonashish was released on the Kolkata label Bihaan Music, in 2022 the Swedish-Indian-Egyptian collaboration KG Westman & Zaعfaran and in 2023 an album featuring the self composed raag Anandpriya. ARUP SENGUPTA doesn't need any introduction to Hindustani music lovers in Europe as he regularly performs with renowned Hindustani Musicians throughout Europe, India and the US. Arup is considered to be one of the most sought after Tabla accompanists in Europe.
