NL / Voor dit soloproject zet Mathieu zijn levenslange metgezel, de sopraansaxofoon, in de schijnwerpers.
Hij geeft ons zijn ontdekkingen door middel van geluidsvignetten, soms gecomponeerd, soms geïmproviseerd, met als ankerpunt luisteren naar timbres.
Door zijn instrument vanuit alle hoeken te gebruiken, nodigt hij de luisteraar uit in een bijzondere microkosmos, gevormd door zijn inspiratiebronnen, variërend van keramiek tot jazz, schilderkunst, Japan, improvisatie en beweging.
Met zijn praktijk van het moment duikt Mathieu in de materie en probeert hij de klanken te bewonen, in een zekere zoektocht naar sereniteit en paradoxaal genoeg... stilte.

FR / Pour ce projet solo, Mathieu met à l'honneur son compagnon de toujours, le saxophone soprano.
Il nous livre ses trouvailles au travers de vignettes sonores tantôt composées, tantôt improvisées, ayant comme point d'ancrage
l'écoute des timbres. Déclinant son instrument sous tous ses angles, il invite l'auditeur dans des microcosmes particuliers, façonnés par ses inspirations allant de la céramique au jazz en passant par la peinture, le Japon, l'improvisation et le mouvement. Avec sa pratique de l'instant, Mathieu plonge dans la matière et cherche à habiter les sons, dans une certaine recherche de sérénité et paradoxalement...de silence.

Lauréat du premier prix (et du Prix du Public) au Concours International de Guitare du Montreux Jazz Festival 2014, Alex Goodman a été salué comme « l’un des talents les plus prometteurs de [sa] génération de jazz » (JazzTimes), ainsi que comme « une voix musicale incontestable » (Guitar International). Ce guitariste a sorti sept albums en tant que leader ou co-leader. Son premier opus ‘Bridges,’ sorti en 2011, a été nominé pour un JUNO comme meilleur disque de jazz contemporain de l’année. Le guitariste figure sur des enregistrements aux côtés d’artistes renommés tels que John Patitucci, Dave Douglas, Ambrose Akinmusire, Dick Oatts, Mike Rodriguez et Rich Perry. Billy Strayhorn and Duke Ellington Tribute Simon Rigter (tenorsax), Jasper Soffers(piano), Jean-Louis Rassinfosse (bass),Luc Vanden Bosch (drums) Being the son of saxophone player Bob Rigter, Simon Rigter (The Netherlands, 1973) grew up in a musical environment. At age 10 he started taking classical flute lessons and at age 12 Simon started playing the saxophone. He studied at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague from 1989 until 1996, where he was taught by John Ruocco. Subsequently, he studied with Ferdinand Povel at the Hilversum Conservatoire. He graduated in 1997. As a recording artist Simon can be heard with Dutch Jazz Orchestra, Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra, The Reeds, Curtis Fuller, Slide Hampton, John Marshall, Cees Slinger, Victor Kaihatu, . He performed with George Coleman, Alvin Queen, Ferdinand Povel, Ruud Jacobs, Pim Jacobs, Frans Elsen and toured in China, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, India, Israel, Jamaica, Japan, and South America. Simon is a teacher at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and plays 1st tenor in The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw. He also plays with Bop2B, Equinox, The Ruud Breuls/Simon Rigter Quintet, The Simon Rigter Quartet and Tenor Conclave. In the winter of 2022 Simon released a ballad album entitled Growing Up. Joseph Nowell (piano), Michele Bondesan (double bass),Giuseppe Sardina (drums) Katharsis was born in 2020 from the meeting of three musicians and long-time friends who had been playing together for years in different contexts (BlueRing Improvisers among others) and decided to bring together their mutual influences in a stable formation. ********** English ********** FUR is a risk-taker, because that’s how life is, nothing is stable. And to stay alive, you have to bounce back, from one situation to another, from a ballad to an oppressive ostinato, from a drone to a wandering melody. Together they compose a musical hide, with the help of a wild beast that scratches, protects, and stalks with its noise-ist see-saw. It’s jazz. But pop can be heard too, in the abundance of simple melodies that set the tone for the harmony. all. Sometimes noise breaks the line to plunge us into timbre. Emotion glides along sensation. The abstract intertwines with melodic riffs. Dialogues in counterpoint, collages of opposing energies that glide in suspended moments through arpeggios skimmed by the nimble fingers of the guitarist, while the clarinet weeps and lets us hear the humid sound of its mucous membranes. The drum kit overturns the groove to the extent that it scrambles and annihilates fixed pulsation. Space reigns, revealing a dark, silky night. ********** Français ********** FUR est joueur, car la vie c’est comme ça, rien n’est stable. Et pour rester vivant, il s’agit de rebondir, d’une situation à une autre, d’une ballade à un ostinato oppressant, d’un drone à une mélodie errante. Ils composent ensemble de la fourrure musicale à l’aide d’un fauve qui griffe, qui protège, qui traque avec ses mélodies à bascule bruitiste. C'est Jazz. Mais ça sent la Pop aussi, par l’abondance de mélodies simples qui donnent le ton à l’harmonie. La Noise vient parfois rompre la ligne pour nous plonger dans le timbre. L’émotion glisse le long de la sensation. L’abstrait s’immisce à l’intérieur de riffs mélodiques. Des dialogues en contrepoint, des collages d’énergies opposées qui glissent dans des moments suspendus par des arpèges effleurés par les doigts rapides du guitariste, tandis que la clarinette pleure et laisse entendre le bruit humide de ses muqueuses. La batterie, elle, fait chavirer le groove jusqu’à brouiller et anéantir les repères de pulsations. L’espace règne et laisse entrevoir une nuit sombre et soyeuse. ********** Nederlands ********** FUR is speels, want zo zit het leven nu eenmaal in elkaar: niks is stabiel. Wie in leven wil blijven, moet telkens weer opveren, van de ene situatie in de andere stuiteren, de ballade inruilen voor een beklemmend ostinato en de drone omwisselen voor de rondzwervende melodie. Samen vormen ze de muzikale pels van een roofdier dat klauwt, beschermt en de jacht inzet met zijn melodieën die flirten met de noise. Dit is jazz. Maar er zit ook een vleugje pop in, met dank aan de overvloed aan eenvoudige melodieën die de toon zetten voor de harmonie. Dat alles wordt soms doorbroken door een homp noise om ons onder te dompelen in het timbre. De emotie glijdt mee met het gevoel. Het abstracte baant zich een weg naar het hart van de melodische riffs. Dialogen als tegengewicht, collages van tegengestelde energieën die via de arpeggio’s van de vingervlugge gitarist overgaan in momenten die als het ware in de tijd zijn opgehangen, terwijl de klarinet huilt en het vochtige geluid van haar slijmvliezen laat horen. Het slagwerk laat dan weer de groove kapseizen, en vertroebelt en vernietigt de aanknopingspunten van de pulserende beat. De ruimte heerst en laat ons een glimp zien van een duistere en zijdezachte nacht.
