Victor Horta and Paul Hankar, pioneers of Art Nouveau, were part of various networks, including those of the freemasonry and some political circles. While these links shaped their careers, can we reduce their success to these connections alone, as is sometimes stated? The reality is both more subtle and simpler than it may seem. While the two architects' ideas often oppose each other, they complement each other through their talent.

This two-part conference takes a nuanced look at the impact of networks, and extends an initial reflection initiated at the Liberal Archives (Liberas) in Ghent. It is part of the program surrounding the Belgian Art Nouveau exhibition at the Maison Hannon.
