Youmna Saba is a Lebanese musician, composer, and musicologist from Lebanon. By digitally augmenting her oud – a traditional Arabian lute – she explores the relationship between electroacoustic music and the Arabic language in its sung form. Youmna’s fifth solo album Wishah (‘veil’ in Arabic) is informed by rigorous research in the sonic properties of sung Arabic phonemes and how they can in turn shape synthesised electronic sounds. The album was inspired by her move from Beirut to Paris, blending voice, electronics, and oud to evoke themes of memory and transformation. After playing Wishah at Rewire, Lafayette Anticipations and at BRDCST 2024 (hello AB-neighbours!) among many others, she will present it tonight on our rooftop together with new experiments in storytelling.

Nazanin Yalda is an Iranian musician and composer based in Brussels. In her solo work with the setār—an Iranian string instrument—she employs electronic sound modifications to expand its acoustic range, resulting in neoclassical ambient soundscapes that evokes a dreamy sense of melancholy. It is one of the ways in which Nazanin explores how diverse worlds and traditions can merge to create something new, or coexist in ways that enrich one another.
You might recognise Nazanin as half of Floèmee, an experimental synths duo who got nominated for the Concours Circuit 2023 finals and played at La Nature Festival and Brasserie Illegaal last summer.

Youmna Saba est une musicienne, compositrice et musicologue libanaise. En augmentant numériquement son oud – un luth arabe traditionnel – elle explore la relation entre la musique électroacoustique et la langue arabe sous sa forme chantée. Son cinquième album solo, Wishah (« voile » en arabe), s’inspire d’une recherche rigoureuse sur les propriétés sonores des phonèmes arabes chantés et sur la manière dont ils peuvent influencer des sons électroniques synthétisés. Cet album puise également dans son expérience de migration de Beyrouth à Paris, mêlant voix, électronique et oud pour évoquer des thèmes de mémoire et de transformation. Après avoir présenté Wishah à Rewire, Lafayette Anticipations et au BRDCST 2024 (coucou lesvoisins de l’AB !), elle nous le présente ce soir sur notre rooftop, accompagné de nouvelles expériences narratives.

Nazanin Yalda est une musicienne et compositrice iranienne basée à Bruxelles. Dans son travail solo avec le setâr – un instrument à cordes iranien – elle utilise des modifications sonores électroniques pour élargir sa portée acoustique, créant ainsi des paysages sonores neoclassiques et ambiants qui évoquent une douce mélancolie onirique. C’est l’une des façons dont Nazanin explore comment des mondes et des traditions divers peuvent fusionner pour créer quelque chose de nouveau ou coexister de manière à s’enrichir mutuellement.
Vous la reconnaîtrez peut-être comme l’une des moitiés de Floèmee, un duo expérimental de synthés qui a été finaliste au Concours Circuit 2023 et s’est produit à La Nature Festival ainsi qu’à la Brasserie Illegaal l’été dernier.

Youmna Saba is een Libanese muzikant, componist en musicoloog. Door haar oed – een traditionele Arabische luit – digitaal te versterken, onderzoekt ze de relatie tussen elektro-akoestische muziek en de Arabische taal in gezongen vorm. Haar vijfde soloalbum Wishah (‘sluier’ in het Arabisch) is gebaseerd op grondig onderzoek naar de klankeigenschappen van gezongen Arabische fonemen en hoe deze elektronische geluiden kunnen vormgeven. Het album werd geïnspireerd door haar verhuizing van Beiroet naar Parijs en combineert stem, elektronica en oed om thema’s als herinnering en transformatie te bevragen. Na Wishah te hebben gespeeld op onder andere Rewire, Lafayette Anticipations en BRDCST 2024 (hallo AB-buren!), presenteert ze het vanavond op ons dak, samen met nieuwe experimenten in storytelling.

Dit is een van de manieren waarop Nazanin onderzoekt hoe verschillende werelden en tradities kunnen samensmelten tot iets nieuws, of kunnen samengaan op een manier die elkaar verrijkt.
Misschien herken je Nazanin als de helft van Floèmee, een experimenteel synth-duo dat genomineerd werd voor de finale van Concours Circuit 2023 en afgelopen zomer optrad op La Nature Festival en Brasserie Illegaal.
