S’il y a bien un nom qui domine la florissante scène alternative française, c’est bien celui d’Oklou. La chanteuse, productrice et compositrice est de retour aujourd’hui avec family and friends, son premier single depuis sa mixtape Galore (2020). Oklou décrit ce premier single comme une “quête de réponses à des questions non formulées, une fuite face à quelque chose d'intangible, d'invisible. Un souvenir ? Peut-être que l'idée de fuir quelque chose me plaît, et je cherche de bonnes raisons pour fuir.”

Co-écrit et composé avec Casey MQ - de retour à la production après Galore et aux voix additionnelles aux côtés de Zsela & Cecile Believe, family and friends est un single au design sonore complexe : arpèges de marimbas, chorales luxuriantes, paroles énigmatiques entretiennent cette sensation de mystère, pour une ambiance au frontière du réel.

“Are you even human, are you even real” questionne Oklou, une interrogation qui semble planer tout au long du clip qui accompagne le titre, réalisé par Gil Garbhi. Il nous entraîne avec Oklou et ses amies dans une course effrénée et anxiogène dans un labyrinthe de rues pavillonnaires dans sa ville d’origine, Poitiers.

Malibu -

Malibu est une artiste électronique française dont le travail navigue entre l'ambient et l'onirique. Influencée par des voix douces réverbérées et des progressions d'accords, sa musique a une dimension cinématographique et immersive. Un peu comme un vaste océan de cordes synthétiques et de chœurs. Chaque mois, elle explore ces mêmes idées dans son émission "United in Flames", diffusée sur NTS Radio. "One Life" est son premier EP, sorti en novembre 2019 sur les labels Joyful Noise Recordings et UNO NYC. Il a été suivi de l'EP "Palaces of Pity", publié en novembre 2022 sur UNO NYC.

Als er één naam is die de ontluikende Franse alternatieve scene domineert, dan is het Oklou wel. De zangeres, producer en componiste is vandaag terug met ‘family and friends’, haar eerste single sinds haar ‘Galore’ mixtape uit 2020. Ze beschrijft deze eerste single als een ‘zoektocht naar antwoorden op ongeformuleerde vragen, een vlucht voor iets ongrijpbaars, onzichtbaars. Een herinnering? Misschien hou ik van het idee om ergens voor weg te rennen, en zoek ik naar goede redenen om weg te rennen.’

Gezamenlijk geschreven en gecomponeerd met Casey MQ – terug als producer na ‘Galore’ – en met extra vocalen, is ‘family and friends’ een single met een complex sounddesign: marimba-arpeggio’s weelderige achtergrondzang en raadselachtige teksten houden het gevoel van mysterie in stand, voor een sfeer op het randje van de realiteit.

French vocalist, producer and composer Oklou returned with “family and friends” in September 2024, the first solo single since her highly celebrated full-length mixtape galore. The new song is an ethereal, haunting reflection on the mystery of life, with production that features arpeggiated marimbas, lush choral textures and intricate sound design. “Are you even real?” she asks in her cryptic lyrics. The single arrives alongside a music video by director Gil Gharbi that shows Oklou and her friends running through desolate suburban streets as the camera darts searchingly. Describing the track, Oklou shares, “‘family and friends’ feels like a battle almost. where I’d be searching for answers to unstated questions, escaping from something intangible, invisible. A memory? Maybe I like the idea that I’d be running away from something, and I’m looking for good reasons to run. Maybe I just like that.”

Born Marylou Mayniel in the countryside of Western France, Oklou’s first musical experiences consisted of classical piano and cello lessons before she fell in love with electronic music and took up production. Mayniel eventually moved to Paris, where she hosted weekly radio shows and performed her first live shows as Oklou. After two EPs, 2017’s For The Beasts and 2018’s The Rite Of May, Mayniel received international acclaim, accelerated through collaborations with Mura Masa, A. G. Cook and EASYFUN (the last two both producers of Charli XCX’s Brat) and culminating in her full-length mixtape galore in 2020. It was a turning point in her artistic life, heralded as an innovative and introspective work by fans and media, with Dazed praising as “sophisticated in its composition yet totally cutting edge in its sound.” International touring followed, including support tours with Oneohtrix Point Never and Caroline Polachek.

Malibu -

Malibu is a French electronic musician whose work sails between ambient and ethereal music. Forever inspired by soft reverbed vocals and melodic chord progressions, Malibu's sound is cinematic and immersive, like a sea of synthetic strings and choirs. Every month she explores the same ideas in her sensation radio show United in Flames aired on NTS Radio.
