The great German saxophonist Ulli Jünemann is a true jack-of-all-trades in the music world who, after more than ten years on the piano, decided to devote himself to the saxophone. His talent and enthusiasm for music have led him to be active in various musical fields and beyond, but jazz has always been his greatest passion, and this can be heard in every note he plays.

During his career, he has worked with some of the biggest names in international jazz, including Ingrid Jensen, Kenny Wheeler, Ack Van Rooyen, Dave Liebman, Jay Anderson, Gene Jackson, Adam Nussbaum, Keith Copeland, Bruno Castellucci, his friend the Belgian guitarist Jeanfrançois Prins, Ray Drummond, as well as being a long-standing member of Jasper Van't Hof's band, "Pili Pili", among many others.
With projects such as "Breeze", "Breeze Jammin'", "Triologue", "Sapporo", EGO (European Groove Orchestra), he has caused an international sensation, impressing audiences with his unique creativity and touch, even in the electronic realm of jazz.

With his CD "Boo Hoo" and vinyl "Reflections 2020", he proves once again that he is one of the greatest musicians of his generation.

Le grand saxophoniste allemand Ulli Jünemann est un véritable touche-à-tout du monde de la musique qui, après avoir passé plus de dix ans au piano, a décidé de se consacrer au saxophone. Son talent et son enthousiasme pour la musique l'ont conduit à être actif dans divers domaines musicaux et au-delà, mais le jazz a toujours été sa plus grande passion et cela s'entend dans chaque note qu'il joue.

Au cours de son parcours, il a travaillé avec de grands noms du jazz international, notamment Ingrid Jensen, Kenny Wheeler, Ack Van Rooyen, Dave Liebman, Jay Anderson, Gene Jackson, Adam Nussbaum, Keith Copeland, Bruno Castellucci, son ami le guitariste belge Jeanfrançois Prins, Ray Drummond, tout en étant un membre de longue date du groupe de Jasper Van't Hof, "Pili Pili", parmi beaucoup d'autres.
Avec des projets tels que "Breeze", "Breeze Jammin'", "Triologue", "Sapporo", EGO (European Groove Orchestra), il a fait sensation au niveau international et a impressionné le public par sa créativité et sa touche uniques, même dans le domaine électronique du jazz.

En vingt ans, le quartet d’Emile Parisien a donné de nombreux concerts à travers le monde. Il était temps de célébrer cela. Les quatre musiciens s’inspirent de libres penseurs tels que Wayne Shorter ou Ornette Coleman, mais leur ingéniosité et leur façon d’essayer continuellement de nouvelles choses ne peut être comparée à aucun autre ensemble. Leur succès ne repose pas seulement sur l’interaction impeccable de l’ensemble, mais aussi sur les qualités uniques de chacun des membres. Emile Parisien rassemble ici de hauts représentants de la scène jazz française. Les musiciens ne choisissent jamais la voie la plus simple, et pourtant les compositions, qui sont toutes écrites par le quartet, dégagent une énergie entraînante, exigeant une rigueur et une concentration étonnantes. L’incroyable façon dont les membres du groupe communiquent entre eux, tout en prenant soin d’éviter les écueils laissés par les lieux communs en est presque jouissive. ********** English ********** Mathieu Robert Solo – 15 resonances (Album Release ‘Fifteen Resonances’) In this solo project, Mathieu honors his loyal companion, the soprano saxophone. Through miniature sounds he shares his findings, sometimes composed, sometimes improvised, using those tones as an anchor. He invites the listener to discover a particular microcosm by highlighting all the different angles of his instrument. The source of the inspiration varies from ceramics to jazz, passing through paintings, Japanese culture, improvisation and movement. With this practice of the moment, Mathieu dives into the matter and tries to inhabit the sounds themselves, in search of serenity and paradoxically... silence. + Alexander Pielsticker / Nicolas Kummert - digital shadow This duet is an encounter between a musician playing on a prepared piano and his digital shadow. Alexander's piano is prepared with different objects which resonate and vibrate as he plays, and these sounds are manipulated in real time by Nicolas via his computer. The result is mysterious music, where we no longer know who is doing what. The two musicians manipulate the same sound, over which neither has total control, which brings them even closer than a 'traditional' duo. This creates poetic music that is sometimes abstract, sometimes powerful, even harsh, but also very intimate. The project started when the two musicians met in Arnhem, where they were both pursuing a Master degree; Alex was doing research on the prepared piano and Nicolas on the expressive possibilities of electronics applied to acoustic sounds. ********** Français ********** Mathieu Robert Solo – 15 resonances (Album Release ‘Fifteen Resonances’) Pour ce projet solo, Mathieu met à l'honneur son compagnon de toujours, le saxophone soprano. Il nous livre ses trouvailles au travers de vignettes sonores tantôt composées, tantôt improvisées, ayant comme point d'ancrage l'écoute des timbres. Déclinant son instrument sous tous ses angles, il invite l'auditeur dans des microcosmes particuliers, façonnés par ses inspirations allant de la céramique au jazz en passant par la peinture, le Japon, l'improvisation et le mouvement. Avec sa pratique de l'instant, Mathieu plonge dans la matière et cherche à habiter les sons, dans une certaine recherche de sérénité et paradoxalement...de silence. + Alexander Pielsticker / Nicolas Kummert - digital shadow Alexander Pielsticker et Nicolas Kummert se sont rencontrés à Arnhem où ils faisaient tous deux un Master degree : Alex faisait une recherche sur le piano préparé et Nicolas sur les possibilités expressives de l’électronique appliquée à des sons acoustiques. Le piano d’Alexander est préparé avec différents objets qui résonnent, vibrent au gré de son jeu, et ces sons sont manipulés en temps réel par Nicolas via son ordinateur. En découle une musique mystérieuse, où l’on ne sait plus qui fait quoi. Door zowat alle hoeken van zijn sax te belichten, nodigt hij de luisteraar uit in een bijzondere microkosmos. De bron van zijn inspiratie is variërend; van keramiek tot jazz, doorheen de schilderkunst, Japan, improvisatie en beweging. Met deze momentane oefening duikt Mathieu in de materie en tracht de klanken te bewonen, in een soort zoektocht naar sereniteit en paradoxaal genoeg... stilte. + Alexander Pielsticker / Nicolas Kummert - digital shadow Alexander Pielsticker en Nicolas Kummert hebben elkaar leren kennen in Arnhem toen ze er allebei een masteropleiding volgden: Alex verdiepte zich in het onderzoek rond de geprepareerde piano en Nicolas onderzocht de expressieve mogelijkheden van de op akoestische klanken toegepaste elektronica. De piano van Alexander is geprepareerd met verschillende voorwerpen die weergalmen en meeklinken met zijn spel. Intussen manipuleert Nicolas de klanken realtime met zijn computer. Dat levert mysterieuze muziek op, waarbij de toehoorder niet meer weet wie wat doet. Beide muzikanten bewerken dezelfde klank, maar geen van beide heeft er de volledige controle over. Dat brengt hen nog dichter bij elkaar dan een ‘traditioneel’ duo en mondt uit in poëtische muziek die nu eens abstract en dan weer krachtig is.

Akua Naru's fans know that she grew up in a Pentecostal community in Connecticut where women hold positions of leadership. Aside from female emancipation and female empowerment, she was raised on gospel until being introduced to hip-hop by a very young uncle: he provided the beats on which she began rapping as a 9-year-old.She also integrated themes such as political activism, Black Power and human rights into her theatre and art curriculum. Naru often presents her positive message during workshops or in panel discussions (check out her keynote during the KU Leuven x AB talk: Is hip-hop still a force for social change? on 26/10). Her powerful, deeply poetic lyrics are most beautifully rendered live, surrounded by top-notch musicians who blend the history of black music – from afrobeat to R&B, blues and jazz – perfectly with the sublime rapflow of one of the strongest storytellers in the hip-hop scene. ********** Français ********** La musicienne, productrice, poétesse et avocate de l’“eWOMANcipation” revient enfin à l’AB avec un nouvel album. ********** English ********** Stéphane Galland is perhaps best known as the drummer with Aka Moon, but has also built an impressive international career as a sideman of Joe Zawinul Syndicate, Zap Mama, Ozark Henry, Novastar, Axelle Red and Ibrahim Maalouf, among others. For several years, he has also been steadily building a solo career, always collaborating with young talent. For this Carte Blanche, he presents two of his latest projects, The Rhythm Hunters and The Gallands. In the latter project, he pulls out all the stops with his son and keyboard player Elvin Galland.  Prepare for an evening of wonderfully adventurous music with rhythmic twists and grooves! ********** Français ********** Une affiche avant-gardiste composée d'artistes à la pointe de leur art Basée à Londres, HANNAH DIAMOND est une chanteuse britannique et artiste visuelle affiliée au label PC Music, acteur majeur dans l’essor de l’hyperpop. Son deuxième album, « Perfect Picture», illustre son ascension à la tête d’un nouveau genre contagieux. Depuis 2013, la chanteuse façonne un univers étincelant composé de sonorités pop et électro englobées dans une esthétique à mi-chemin entre le kawaii et l’avant-gardiste. Révélée il y a deux ans avec sa reprise de « jtm de ouf », ELOI s’est imposée comme l’une des figures montantes de la scène alternative en publiant deux EPs — Acedia (2020) et Pyrale (2021) — qui ont consacré son style de production novateur et sa plume incandescente. C’est avec une combinaison musicale décomplexée qui allie force et délicatesse que TOHJI est devenu l’une des figures emblématiques de sa génération. Évoquant la réalité des faubourgs de Tokyo et s’adressant à une génération pour qui l’esthétique de la consommation a tout promis, Tohji est devenu en 2018, avec son duo Mall Boyz, le renouveau de la jeunesse nippone. Doté d’une voix angélique, d’une énergie débordante et de gros bras, le Londonien BABYMOROCCO propose une musique hybride, expérimentale et pop. Puisant à la fois dans l’électro clash, le gabber, l’hyperpop, ainsi que l’EDM, l’univers de Babymorocco a fait de lui une personnalité culte et mystérieuse sur les réseaux sociaux.
