During his 55th international soloist tour world renowned Argentinian troubadour Martin Alvarado will return to Brussels to give a concert at Art Base accompanied by the highly talented Finnish pianist and bandoneon player Mikko Helenius.

Alvarado and Helenius have been working together for two decades, given hundreds of concerts in Finland,
Russia, United Kingdom, USA, Latvia, Czech Republic and Spain and will release, later this year, an album they recorded in Helsinki.Martin Alvarado is one of the leading singers in Argentine popular music, has published ten albums and is developing an outstanding international career.

Mikko Helenius is a world class pianist, bandoneonist, organist, composer, arranger and singer who usually performs with several Finnish stars like Tapani Kansa, Arja Saijonmaa, Anneli Sari.

Oscillation ::: Materia Forma New Oscillation (https://www.oscillation-festival.be/) edition, new format ::: after online, nomadic and sedentary editions, we're in for six days of sound celebrations. The marathon edition? Those who have been following us for some time know that this range is not a try-out for the Q-O2 crew. Those concerned about physical effects, sleep deprivation, and sonic saturation? Don't worry, the evenings will be intense, but, concise. This year's edition is hosted by VK Vaartkapoen in Molenbeek, complemented with outings to B.A. in Anderlecht and the Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Molenbeek-Saint-Jean Church. The six days feature concerts, (in-situ) performances, a conference, round table conversations, walks, and a series of workshops. T This year, we reflect on form, format and performance. The self-evidence of an active performance linked to music has been altered with the ubiquity of electronic instruments and forms of amplification, which has also resulted in a larger variety of concert formats. Yet, absence of activity on stage does not equate to an absence of performance: objects might take that role, everyday events can be framed to perform themselves, sounds may exist as forms in themselves. Les Jazz au Marché sont de retour et pour ce premier rendez-vous de la saison, nous vous emmenons en Afrique de l'Ouest, avec l'excellent Zouratié Koné Ensemble, pour partager les rythmes et les chants du Burkina Faso, du Sénégal, de Côte d’Ivoire, du Niger, du Mali et de Guinée. Zouratié Koné, chanteur, musicien et fabriquant d’instruments de musique, est née à Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso et a vécu au Mali et en Côte d’Ivoire. Maître percussionniste issu d’une famille de Griots et éduqué dans une culture orale, ce musicien hors pair s’est approprié de multiples instruments de la tradition ouest-africaine :djembé, dundun, talking drum, longa, kora, ngoni, balafon. Ouverture de la terrasse dès 11:00 pour l'apéro et petite restauration, début du concert vers 13:00. TCHA LIMBERGER ( VIOLIN), RENÉ BIKAR ( BRÁCS), VILMOS CSIKOS ( DOUBLE BASS) Tcha’s trio of Budapest musicians causes a sensation, with bursts of soaring musical tragedy and czardas madness delivered with an astounding purity of sound and hardly imaginable depth of musical dialogue. In true Budapest gypsy style they switch between soaring intensity and smouldering pathos delivering a passion and technical virtuosity that astounds. MAGYAR NÓTA is music actually composed by the Hungarian nobility, to liven up their noble feasts and parties. They were looking in the 19th century for Hungarian music, that had to be less primitive than the traditional Hungarian music, which was only played by the illiterate peasants. So they invented a new style, based on elements of Hungarian folk music, both textual and melodic-harmonic, all played with a classical Western European sound. They hired gypsy musicians to come and live with them at the castles, where they should learn to play violin, double bass, clarinet and cimbalom in a classical way. Then they should make the new repertoire into one of the most highly regarded forms of popular music. ‘I myself started to learn that style because the Sinti, Gypsies from western Europe, including my own family, very much look up to, and love, this Hungarian music. Manouche and Sinti used to copy that style, but without the necessary know-how and especially without the Hungarian language, which one needs very much to be able to interpret that style well. This is why I started to learn Hungarian at the age of 20 and spent a year and a half in Budapest to master this music. I then founded the Tcha Limberger's Budapest Orchestra. For this concert we speak of the Budapest Ensemble, since it consists of not more than three musicians. The album has since gone platinum and been present in the Ultratop Albums Top 200 for two years.It recently released its second album, "Joris", a very personal record. ********** English ********** Mathieu Robert Solo – 15 resonances (Album Release ‘Fifteen Resonances’) In this solo project, Mathieu honors his loyal companion, the soprano saxophone. Through miniature sounds he shares his findings, sometimes composed, sometimes improvised, using those tones as an anchor. He invites the listener to discover a particular microcosm by highlighting all the different angles of his instrument. The source of the inspiration varies from ceramics to jazz, passing through paintings, Japanese culture, improvisation and movement. With this practice of the moment, Mathieu dives into the matter and tries to inhabit the sounds themselves, in search of serenity and paradoxically... silence. + Alexander Pielsticker / Nicolas Kummert - digital shadow This duet is an encounter between a musician playing on a prepared piano and his digital shadow. Alexander's piano is prepared with different objects which resonate and vibrate as he plays, and these sounds are manipulated in real time by Nicolas via his computer. The result is mysterious music, where we no longer know who is doing what. The two musicians manipulate the same sound, over which neither has total control, which brings them even closer than a 'traditional' duo. This creates poetic music that is sometimes abstract, sometimes powerful, even harsh, but also very intimate. The project started when the two musicians met in Arnhem, where they were both pursuing a Master degree; Alex was doing research on the prepared piano and Nicolas on the expressive possibilities of electronics applied to acoustic sounds. ********** Français ********** Mathieu Robert Solo – 15 resonances (Album Release ‘Fifteen Resonances’) Pour ce projet solo, Mathieu met à l'honneur son compagnon de toujours, le saxophone soprano. Il nous livre ses trouvailles au travers de vignettes sonores tantôt composées, tantôt improvisées, ayant comme point d'ancrage l'écoute des timbres. Déclinant son instrument sous tous ses angles, il invite l'auditeur dans des microcosmes particuliers, façonnés par ses inspirations allant de la céramique au jazz en passant par la peinture, le Japon, l'improvisation et le mouvement. Avec sa pratique de l'instant, Mathieu plonge dans la matière et cherche à habiter les sons, dans une certaine recherche de sérénité et paradoxalement...de silence. + Alexander Pielsticker / Nicolas Kummert - digital shadow Alexander Pielsticker et Nicolas Kummert se sont rencontrés à Arnhem où ils faisaient tous deux un Master degree : Alex faisait une recherche sur le piano préparé et Nicolas sur les possibilités expressives de l’électronique appliquée à des sons acoustiques. Le piano d’Alexander est préparé avec différents objets qui résonnent, vibrent au gré de son jeu, et ces sons sont manipulés en temps réel par Nicolas via son ordinateur. En découle une musique mystérieuse, où l’on ne sait plus qui fait quoi. Les deux musiciens manipulent le même son sur lequel aucun n’a le contrôle total, ce qui les rapproche encore plus qu’un duo ‘traditionnel’ et crée une musique poétique tantôt abstraite, tantôt puissante. ********** Nederlands ********** Mathieu Robert Solo – 15 resonances (Album Release ‘Fifteen Resonances’) In dit soloproject brengt Mathieu een eerbetoon aan zijn trouwe kompaan, de sopraansaxofoon. Via ‘geluidsvignetten’ deelt hij zijn vondsten met ons; dan eens gecomponeerd, dan weer geïmproviseerd, voortbouwend op het beluisteren van de timbres. Door zowat alle hoeken van zijn sax te belichten, nodigt hij de luisteraar uit in een bijzondere microkosmos. De bron van zijn inspiratie is variërend; van keramiek tot jazz, doorheen de schilderkunst, Japan, improvisatie en beweging. Met deze momentane oefening duikt Mathieu in de materie en tracht de klanken te bewonen, in een soort zoektocht naar sereniteit en paradoxaal genoeg... stilte. + Alexander Pielsticker / Nicolas Kummert - digital shadow Alexander Pielsticker en Nicolas Kummert hebben elkaar leren kennen in Arnhem toen ze er allebei een masteropleiding volgden: Alex verdiepte zich in het onderzoek rond de geprepareerde piano en Nicolas onderzocht de expressieve mogelijkheden van de op akoestische klanken toegepaste elektronica. De piano van Alexander is geprepareerd met verschillende voorwerpen die weergalmen en meeklinken met zijn spel. Intussen manipuleert Nicolas de klanken realtime met zijn computer. Dat levert mysterieuze muziek op, waarbij de toehoorder niet meer weet wie wat doet. Beide muzikanten bewerken dezelfde klank, maar geen van beide heeft er de volledige controle over. Dat brengt hen nog dichter bij elkaar dan een ‘traditioneel’ duo en mondt uit in poëtische muziek die nu eens abstract en dan weer krachtig is.

********** Français ********** Née d'une famille cosmopolite, Joe Bel a grandi en voyageant entre les Alpes françaises, la mer Méditerranée et l'Amérique du Nord. Elle développa un amour pour la musique dès son plus jeune âge après avoir été bercée par les vinyles de Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Otis Redding, ainsi que les chants traditionnels judéo-espagnols chers à la famille. Instinctive et autodidacte, Joe fait ses tous premiers pas sur scène seule à la guitare en 2012, juste après la naissance de son premier enfant, à l’âge de 23 ans. Quelques mois plus tard, Asaf Avidan découvre sa soul folk envoûtante et lui offre toutes les premières parties de sa tournée européenne. Son EP remarqué, « Hit the Roads », lui a permis de se produire à travers l'Europe et jusqu'au Japon. En 2020, attendant son deuxième enfant, elle se lance dans l’écriture de son deuxième opus, « Family Tree » : une exploration à la recherche de ses origines multiples, alliant folk, mélodies entêtantes et couleurs méditerranéennes. À travers un son toujours organique, en anglais et en français, mais également en ladino, ancien espagnol que parlait encore son grand-père, elle choisit de se dévoiler un peu plus, dans un album qui invite au voyage de la transmission entre les générations. ********** Nederlands ********** Joe Bel werd geboren in een kosmopolitische familie, en groeide op terwijl ze reisde tussen de Franse Alpen, de Middellandse Zee en Noord-Amerika. Al op jonge leeftijd ontwikkelde ze een liefde voor muziek. Ze werd geraakt door de platen van Paul McCartney, George Harrison en Otis Redding, maar evenzeer door de traditionele Joods-Spaanse liederen die haar familie dierbaar zijn. In 2012, op 23-jarige leeftijd, zette ze haar eerste stappen op het podium, solo en met enkel haar gitaar als begeleiding. Enkele maanden later ontdekte Asaf Avidan haar beklijvende folk soul, en bood haar prompt alle support slots aan op zijn Europese tour. Haar veelgeprezen EP ‘Hit the Roads’ bracht haar ondertussen door heel Europa en zelfs Japan, en in 2020 begon ze te schrijven aan ‘Family Tree’, een plaat waarop ze haar meervoudige afkomst exploreert. Nicolas Delaigue is a sitar and surbahar player, specialist of north indian classical music. After years of immersion, practice and dedication to this art, he was able to create a bridge between India and the West, and become a reference in the interpretation and teaching of this music in Europe. Nicolas has learned sitar and hindustani classical music with Patrick Moutal, Indrajit Banerjee and have received additionnal training with Sugato and Ustad Shahid Parvez. Today, as a international concert performer, Nicolas have presented his music in many prestigious venues in Europe and around the world. Nicolas teaches sitar, Indian music and modal improvisation in numerous public, private and associative structures throughout France and Europe. In 2022, he was appointed professor of Indian Music and modal improvisation at the National Conservatory of Paris (CNSMDP). An All India Radio Grade A Artist, Sandip Banerjee is playing tabla since 1973. He is well known for his graceful accompaniment and powerful adept solo performance. He is an enlisted artist in ICCR( Indian Council for Cultural Relation) in professional category and SPIC MACAY. He has several CDs with different artists in India and abroad. His book on learning Tabla titled ‘Le Tabla’ has been published from ID Music, France. This book is also available in English now. A rare combination of talent, dedication and good sensibilities have brought Sandip to the top of his art. Avec des compositions allant du mystérieux et contemplatif au cinétique et ludique, l’artiste a donné plus de 230 concerts en Europe, aux États-Unis, au Japon, au Brésil et à Singapour, dans des lieux et des festivals prestigieux.
