In this work, this play of language and lips, five performers search for Modesta. Who is she? A fantasy, a character whose allure relies on the possibility of her being real, tangible. A young girl who grows up by learning how to turn pain into pleasure. A woman who twists the rules of language and social convention. A sphinx-like character, mysterious, because we cannot grasp the source of her agility. Modesta emerges in many guises, through words and movement, and asks us to follow her.  Ooms & Jäger work from a preference for non-theatrical, eclectic text material and a distinctly physical approach to acting. In Modesta (play of language and lips), they loosely take on the coming-of-age genre together with performers Rosie Sommers, Christine De Smedt and Arthur Loontjens. The title refers to the main character of Goliarda Sapienza's book The Art of Joy, written in the 1960s (but not published until three decades later). This literary Modesta inspires by how her uncompromising desire, willpower and joy challenged the morality of her time.  • Anna Franziska Jäger (1996, she/her) and Nathan Ooms (1996, he/him) met at KASK's drama course. A close collaboration developed there, with works such as Bartlebabe (2020) and Ambient Theatre Fury (2022), both shown at Kaaitheater. They share authorship, play in each other's or others' projects, can be seen in films (Anna Franziska) or dance performances (Nathan). They wrote the State of the Youth at the opening of the Theatre Festival a few years ago. Both are part of the performance platform Ne Mosquito Pas. For this production, they gathered collaborators from their area (KASK / PARTS / Ne Mosquito Pas): performers Rosie Sommers, Christine De Smedt and Arthur Loontjens, and scenographer/costume designer and creator Carly Rae Heathcote.

In dit werk, dit spel van taal en lippen, gaan vijf performers op zoek naar Modesta. Wie is zij? Een fantasie, een personage waarvan de aantrekking berust op de mogelijkheid dat ze werkelijk, tastbaar zou kunnen zijn. Een jong meisje dat opgroeit door te leren hoe ze pijn in plezier kan veranderen. Een vrouw die de regels van taal en sociale conventie verdraait. Een sfinxachtig personage, mysterieus omdat we de bron van haar vitaliteit niet kunnen vatten. Modesta verschijnt in vele gedaantes, in woord en beweging, en vraagt ons haar te volgen.  Ooms & Jäger werken vanuit een voorkeur voor niet-theatraal, eclectisch tekstmateriaal en een uitgesproken fysieke benadering van acteren. In Modesta (play of language and lips) gaan ze vrij aan de slag met het coming of age-genre, samen met spelers Rosie Sommers, Christine De Smedt en Arthur Loontjens. De titel verwijst naar het hoofdpersonage in het boek The Art of Joy van Goliarda Sapienza, geschreven in de jaren 1960 (maar slechts drie decennia later uitgegeven). Deze literaire Modesta inspireert door hoe haar compromisloos verlangen, haar wilskracht en vreugde op onverwachte wijze de moraal van haar tijd uitdaagden.  • Anna Franziska Jäger (1996, zij/haar) en Nathan Ooms (1996, hij/hem) ontmoetten elkaar op de drama-opleiding van KASK. Daar ontstond een nauwe samenwerking, met werken als Bartlebabe (2020) en Ambient Theatre Fury (2022), allebei getoond in Kaaitheater. Ze delen auteurschap, spelen in elkaars of andermans projecten, zijn te zien in films (Anna Franziska) of dansvoorstellingen (Nathan). Ze schreven enkele jaren geleden de State of the Youth bij de opening van het Theaterfestival. Allebei maken ze deel uit van het performance platform Ne Mosquito Pas. Voor deze productie verzamelden ze medewerkers uit hun omgeving (KASK / PARTS / Ne Mosquito Pas): performers Rosie Sommers, Christine De Smedt en Arthur Loontjens, en scenografe/kostuumontwerper en maker Carly Rae Heathcote.

Dans Modesta (play of language and lips), Anna Franziska Jäger et Nathan Ooms abordent le genre du passage à l'âge adulte avec les interprètes Rosie Sommers, Christine De Smedt et Arthur Loontjens. Iels interprètent une multitude de personnages et traversent différentes étapes de la vie. Leur quête de l'art de la joie et de celui de la perte est une constante, et iels se heurtent à la similitude inattendue entre les deux.  Le titre fait référence au personnage principal du livre L'art de la joie de Goliarda Sapienza, écrit dans les années 1960 (mais publié seulement trois décennies plus tard). Modesta capte l'imagination contemporaine grâce à son caractère intemporel et obstiné, et à sa quête inconditionnelle d'une liberté qui défie les normes et l'hypocrisie de son époque. Grâce à leur penchant pour les textes éclectiques et leur approche physique de l'interprétation, Ooms & Jäger créent un monde où le texte, l'image et le mouvement peuvent s'entremêler de manière ludique. Dans ce projet, iels cherchent à expérimenter l'utilisation de métaphores. L'imagerie peut ouvrir et troubler la pensée - sur nous-mêmes, sur l'autre ou sur "le monde". Les métaphores peuvent être fantaisistes et inattendues. Que se passe-t-il lorsque vous poussez davantage leur utilisation, ou lorsque la frontière entre l'imagerie et la réalité devient floue ?     • Anna Franziska Jäger (1996, elle) et Nathan Ooms (1996, il/lui) se sont rencontrés au cours d'art dramatique de la KASK. Iels y ont développé une étroite collaboration, avec des œuvres telles que Bartlebabe (2020) et Ambient Theatre Fury (2022), toutes deux présentées au Kaaitheater. Iels partagent la paternité des œuvres, jouent dans leurs projets respectifs ou dans ceux des autres, peuvent être vu·es dans des films (Anna Franziska) ou des spectacles de danse (Nathan). Il y a quelques années, iels ont écrit The State of Youth à l'occasion de l'ouverture du festival de théâtre. Tous deux font partie de la plateforme de performance Ne Mosquito Pas.
