Introducing Woodblocks Festival, Kiosk Radio’s first-ever music festival taking place on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th September at Vauxhall, only a stone’s throw away from our beloved wooden kiosk.

For the occasion, we’re bringing together an eclectic line-up across two stages, alternating live acts from the afternoon up to the early evening, and ending in party mode with DJ sets at night.

Nicolas Mortelmans presents his long-awaited debut album MY! The common thread throughout the album is the sitar, an instrument that he learned in the traditional way from various sitar masters in India. Since 2017 he has been trained by the world-famous Anoushka Shankar. In every song he tries to approach this unique instrument in a different way. With this album he builds a bridge between his love for Indian music and his roots in Western genres such as electronic, jazz and rock music. His house in Cardiff is also partly his studio, and you can hear it: the distant chatter of parties across the street, the fireworks on Bonfire Night, and even the seagulls that congregate on the building site next door seep onto his recordings.Lacey began Novo Amor as an act of defiance in the wake of a break-up, but along the way he unexpectedly discovered something rich and rewarding. Years ago, a summer spent by an evergreen-encompassed lake in upstate New York provided the impetus for creating his debut album Birthplace (2018).In the wake of the release of Cannot Be, Whatsoever, Lacey ponders a past soundtracked by songs of quiet hope and longing: “I can still see the lake upstate when I picture ‘Birthplace’, the songs sheltered by this place I’ve romanticised that doesn’t actually exist anymore. These new songs feel immediate and noisy in comparison, almost optimistic. ********** English ********** MILANOSPORT was established in late 2019 when Federico returned to Milan after living in the Netherlands for five years, his suitcase stuffed with dozens of cool demos and lyrics about his experiences and the Dutch way of life. After meeting Paolo, the first version of MILANOSPORT emerged: something between post-punk and surf-rock, with the goal of playing each other’s songs. Later, three more musicians joined them: Riccardo, who had just returned after two years of electronic music experience in Sweden; Pietro, who added pop melodies on synths; and Matteo, an impeccable rock drummer.As a result, every member brings along different musical baggage and that leads to a delicious mix of punk, surf-rock, synth-pop, Sovietwave, shoegaze and Irish folk. In 2020, they began to rehearse in an underground garage behind the Milanese Bar Picchio, the same spot where Milanese greats like Tropea, Nava, Giallorenzo, Nobody Cried for Dinosaurs and Visconti rehearsed.MILANOSPORT's first, legendary concert was in 2021 in Club Lume, where 500 partying people tried to forget the pandemic. A year, and countless shows later, their first EP Ain't Big Enough was released. In 2023, they won the prestigious Steve Strange Award during The Great Escape. Since then, there have been several singles released to herald their debut album, which is to be released on March 15. MILANOSPORT is all about Fender guitars, 10 amps, a central synthesizer, fun and teamwork. ********** English ********** Declan McKenna made a name for himself in 2015 with his ultra-catchy debut single "Brazil". At the tender age of 16, the young Briton produced a political track denouncing corruption within FIFA. Obsessed with Bowie and with an attitude reminiscent of the Libertines and Jamie T., Declan McKenna had until then only released a few songs online, mixing luminous indie pop with lo-fi textures. This first viral success won him the Emerging Talent Award at the Glastonbury Festival and a contract with Columbia the same year. Her talent for strong melodies and willingness to tackle social and political issues also featured on her debut album 'What Do You Think About the Car?' (2017), which shot up the charts in both the UK and the US. His next album, 'Zeros', released in 2020, explored glam rock sounds and reached number two in the UK charts. On his third studio album, Declan McKenna entered a new era in his songwriting career. What Happened To The Beach? is a more personal album that focuses on joy. Op 16-jarige leeftijd producete de jonge Brit een politiek geladen nummer waarin hij de corruptie binnen de FIFA aan de kaak stelde. Geobsedeerd door Bowie en met een houding die doet denken aan The Libertines en Jamie T., had Declan McKenna tot dan toe alleen een paar nummers online uitgebracht, waarbij hij opzwepende indiepop mengde met lo-fi invloeden. Dat eerste grote succes leverde hem de Emerging Talent Award op het Glastonbury Festival op en hetzelfde jaar nog een contract bij Columbia. Zijn talent voor sterke melodieën en bereidheid om sociale en politieke kwesties aan te pakken, kwam ook terug op zijn debuutalbum 'What Do You Think About the Car?'
