Crucially political and nourished by the rich imagery of Arabic poetry, Almadhoun’s voice succeeds in bridging the gap between experiencing tragedy and relaying its magnitude to readers. ?His writings on the Syrian civil war earned him the name of “the great poet of a great catastrophe”.?This year he published his third book in Dutch translation with the powerful?title:?‘I Have Brought You a Severed Hand’.

Une soirée sur la poésie comme acte de justice et de résistance. Ghayath Almadhoun, poète et cinéaste palestino-syrien, est l'un des plus grands talents de la poésie arabe d'aujourd'hui. Dans ses poèmes, il montre la banalité diabolique de la violence, les vérités du déplacement et la perte de son pays natal sur le plan personnel.
Fondamentalement politique et nourrie par les riches images de la poésie arabe, la voix d'Almadhoun réussit à combler le fossé entre l'expérience de la tragédie et la transmission de son ampleur aux lecteurs. Ses écrits sur la guerre civile syrienne lui ont valu le surnom de « le grand poète d'une grande catastrophe ». Een avond over poëzie als daad van rechtvaardigheid en verzet. De Palestijns-Syrische dichter en cineast Ghayath Almadhoun is een van de grootste talenten in de hedendaagse Arabische poëzie. In zijn gedichten toont hij hoe kwaadaardig banaal geweld vaak is, wat ontheemding echt inhoudt en hoe hij zich voelt bij het verlies van zijn thuisland.
De stem van Almadhoun is resoluut politiek en wordt gevoed door de rijke beeldtaal van de Arabische poëzie. Hij slaagt erin over te brengen wat het betekent om een tragedie te ervaren en zijn lezers de omvang daarvan te laten voelen. Zijn werk over de Syrische burgeroorlog leverde hem de bijnaam ‘de grote dichter van een grote catastrofe’ op.
