Between Us: reading by Peter Verhelst, music by Ann Eysermans

Peter Verhelst will be reading poems inspired by the work of Denitsa Todorova. The reading will be musically accompanied by Ann Eysermans.

Peter Verhelst (°1962, Bruges) is a multi-awarded author of poetry, novels, novellas, theatre texts, scripts, and books ‘for young readers’. He regularly collaborates with visual artists.

In 2022, he was awarded the Ark Prize of Free Word. According to the Free Word Ark Committee, he deserved the prize ‘because he tries to counter the great challenges of this world in turmoil - war, climate, inequality, envy - with uninhibited beauty, connection and open discussion.’

Verhelst published with publisher Prometheus from 1991 to 2016. From 2017, his books are published by the Bezige Bij.

Ann Eysermans is a composer, performer and conceptual artist. She plays harp and double bass within various groups such as Fnussjen, DUO, r.naakt.i and Berreys organa. She was artist in residence at ChampdAction from 2007 to 2023. In 2004, she obtained her Master degrees in Muziekschriftuur and Composition and in 2007 Double Bass (jazz) at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. From 2010 to 2014, she has been working on an intermedial doctoral research project focusing on experimental music, trains and phosphorescence: P - TRAINS [Astrin Phosphora]. This research project resulted in her 'PhD in Arts' [with congratulations from the jury], obtained at the Free University of Brussels (VUB).
In 2021-2022, she created FOR TRAINSPOTTERS ONLY for the Trains & Tracks festival (Europalia), in which her 'Prelude and Fugue for 4 diesel locomotives and harp' were the main thread in a concert with harp and locomotives (on stage), a series of film concerts and a vinyl record released by the Cortizona label. In 2023, her album MOONLIGHT SHADOH was released, also by Cortizona. Ten new compositions for, about and with her dog Shadoh, contain his usual sounds – including barking, smacking, drooling, whining, shaking himself, eating and drinking – sounding over the harp, viola da gamba, organs, noise and beats.
