Robbrecht en Daem architecten Bartók in Space and Time

With Staging the Concert, Bozar introduces a new format in which visual art and music enter into dialogue. New dimensions of the concert experience are explored through the interplay with space, light and materials.      
In Music for strings, percussion and celesta (1937), Béla Bartók juxtaposes two identical groups of strings like a mirror image, with the percussion instruments in between. Robbrecht en Daem architecten set to work on this special arrangement, translating architectural principles of the score into five floating objects in the hall Henry Le Bœuf, accentuated by a thoughtful lighting design.

Avec Staging the Concert, nous proposons un nouveau format où les arts visuels et la musique, entrent en dialogue. En jouant avec l'espace, la lumière et les matériaux de nouvelles dimensions dans l'expérience du concert sont explorées  
Dans Musique pour cordes, percussion et célesta (1937), Béla Bartók place deux ensembles de cordes identiques en miroir avec entre eux, les instruments de percussion. Robbrecht en Daem architecten s'inspirent de cette disposition particulière et traduisent les principes structuraux de la partition en cinq objets flottants dans la salle Henry Le Bœuf, soulignés par un éclairage élaboré.

Met Staging the Concert introduceren we een nieuw format waarin beeldende kunst en muziek met elkaar in dialoog treden. Nieuwe dimensies van de concertbeleving worden verkend door het spel met ruimte, licht en materialen.     
Muziek voor snaren, percussie en celesta (1937) is een van de meest eigenzinnige werken in het oeuvre van Béla Bartók. Twee identieke strijkersgroepen staan als een spiegelbeeld tegenover elkaar, waartussen de percussie-instrumenten zicht subtiel positioneren. Robbrecht en Daem architecten gaan aan de slag met de speciale opstelling en vertalen architectonische principes van de partituur in vijf zwevende objecten in de grote zaal. Een doordacht lichtontwerp accentueert deze objecten en belicht de essentie van Bartóks meesterwerk.
