Meet the Artist: Monira Al Qadiri

Monira Al Qadiri is an international artist who works with sculpture, installation, film and performance. In her practice, she questions the petrostate nations' activities and their impact on the cultural histories and ecosystems of the Gulf region. 
This fall , Bozar is hosting her first solo exhibition in Belgium, The Archaeology of Beasts, which interweaves ancient myths and current issues relating to climate change. Oscillating between humor and beauty, her work often possesses an underlying violence.?  
Bozar invites you for an intimate conversation with the artist on the day of the opening. A unique opportunity to discover Al Qadiri’s new body of work and to dive into her universe – with her leading the way.?? 
The talk will be moderated by Elisabeth Van Caelenberge, Egyptologist (KU Leuven) and art historian specialising in contemporary art (former director of gallery Xavier Hufkens).

Monira Al Qadiri est une artiste internationale qui travaille avec la sculpture, l'installation, le film et la performance. Dans sa pratique, elle remet en question les activités des nations pétrolières et leur impact sur les histoires culturelles et les écosystèmes de la région du Golfe. 
Cet automne, Bozar accueille sa première exposition solo en Belgique, The Archaeology of Beasts, qui mêle mythes anciens et faits récents liés au changement climatique, oscillant entre humour et beauté, souvent avec une violence sous-jacente.???

Monira Al Qadiri is een internationale kunstenares die werkt met sculptuur, installatie, film en performance. In haar werk stelt ze de activiteiten van de oliestaten en hun impact op de culturele geschiedenis en ecosystemen van de Golfregio in vraag.  
Dit najaar organiseert Bozar haar eerste solotentoonstelling in België, The Archaeology of Beasts, waarin ze oude mythes verweeft met actuele kwesties rond klimaatverandering. Haar werk, dat schommelt tussen humor en schoonheid, bezit vaak een onderliggend geweld.?   
Bozar nodigt je uit voor een intiem gesprek met de kunstenares op de dag van de opening. Een unieke kans om Al Qadiri's nieuwe oeuvre te ontdekken en in haar universum te duiken - met haar als gids.
