Sean Shibe appears here as a "ECHO Rising Star" but is already a star in his own
right. He is considered one of today’s most versatile guitarists, as virtuosic
and sensitive on a classical guitar as he is on a Fender Stratocaster. His
innovative approach to the instrument has earned him a reputation as the
musician with “one of the most discerning ears in the business” (Gramophone). He
has already won a carload of prestigious awards, most recently the 2022 Leonard
Bernstein Award. His critically acclaimed recordings have won him two Gramophone
Awards, an Opus Klassik, and a Grammy nomination in 2024 in the 'Best Classical
Vocal Album' category for his album Broken Branches (Pentatone) recorded with
tenor Karim Sulayman.
Sean Shibe has been nominated by the Barbican Centre as part of the ECHO
(European Concert Hall Organisation) Rising Stars project, which takes
outstanding young soloists on a tour of concert halls across the European
network.

(European Concert Hall Organisation) Rising Stars project.
Collegium Vocale Gent & Philippe Herreweghe
Description

Arcadia is a utopian land full of flowers, fruit and forests, clear water, birdsong, and an eternal summer. These elements were part of an ideal landscape even back in classical antiquity, a landscape that would once have been there in a lost Golden Age at the beginning of human history. Underlying Herreweghe’s programme is the novel of the same name by Neapolitan Jacopo Sannazaro, one of the most widely read works of the 16th century that profoundly influenced European poetry, painting, and music. Thus, the book stimulated the imagination of composers such as Marenzio, Monteverdi, and Rossi for beautiful madrigals. A throwback to Collegium Vocale Gent, which proves that it also firmly holds its ground in finely crafted structures.
