Description

Zó belangrijk voor de Europese kunstwereld en toch relatief onbekend in België: de Vlaamse kunstenaar Jef Verheyen (1932-1984) keert terug naar Antwerpen. Veertig jaar na zijn overlijden presenteert het KMSKA de eerste solotentoonstelling van deze illustere moderne meester in zijn thuisstad. Een primeur. 

In de expo ontdekt de bezoeker een boeiend spel van licht en donker, van vorm en kleur. Dankzij baanbrekend onderzoek van het M HKA krijgt Verheyens experimentele zoektocht naar leegte vorm. Een zoektocht die ook vandaag nog relevant is. Daarom worden de werken van Verheyen niet enkel in dialoog of confrontatie geplaatst met zijn voorgangers en tijdgenoten, maar ook met hedendaagse kunstenaars. Prestigieuze bruiklenen van onder andere de Yves Klein Foundation, het Uecker Archiv en de Fondazione Lucio Fontana verrijken de expo en plaatsen Verheyen in een internationaal kader.

Jong Versterkt presents Lezard & Koala Disco Lezard: Met één been staat Lézard in het David Byrniaanse tijdperk, met het ander in de underground post-punkscene van de jaren 80. Het is in de regel de kameleon die van kleur verandert, niet zomaar iedere hagedis, maar die natuurwetten lapt Lézard aan hun laars. Frontman Neil Claes brengt vergezeld van 3 ijzersterke muzikanten een bontkleurige en meerlagige set op een stijgend en dalend tempo en waarbij ze hun invloeden van XTC, Talking Heads en hedendaagse post-punk acts niet onder de banken steken. De geometrische en dansbare sound van hun muziek wordt ondersteund door projecties van digitaal verwerkte analoge beelden, goed voor een donders en energiek gesamtkunstwerk. Koala Disco: Een vijfkoppige postpunkband uit Antwerpen, België. Wij heten je graag welkom in onze maffe wereld van onzin, fluctuerende emoties en ongecontroleerde chaos. We vertellen grillige verhalen van onsterfelijke honden die zich naar verre planeten wagen om een plek te vinden om te sterven, tot kreeften met mama-problemen. Het lijkt allemaal onzinnig, maar dat is het eigenlijk niet. Het geluid is sterk beïnvloed door hedendaagse Psych en helden uit de jaren 80 als Byrne en Bowie, maar laat je niet te veel vasthouden aan genres of invloeden. Het is tegelijkertijd een beetje van alles en een beetje van niets.

Naar aanleiding van het Jetse Artiestenparcours d’Artistes nodigen we je uit om mee te kijken door de ogen van jonge filmmakers. Yto Vanfleteren studeert regie aan het RITC School of Arts. In de jeugdzaal van GC Essegem bouwt ze een videoruimte waar ze eigen werk en dat van vrienden voor de eerste keer vertoont. In de feestzaal kan je kijken naar het werk van Marina Kalleny. Deze Egyptische documentairemaakster is geboren en opgegroeid in Caïro, maar woont sinds twee jaar in Jette. Ze behaalde haar master bij Docnomads, een prestigieus Erasmusprogramma in Portugal, Hongarije en België. Door haar lens duikt ze in de ingewikkelde lagen van persoonlijke en collectieve herinneringen, op zoek naar de link tussen mens en natuur. Met het geheugen en transformatie als centrale thema’s verkent ze de onvatbaarheid van tijd en de diepgaande connecties tussen verleden, heden en toekomst. Gedurende het hele weekend van Artiestenparcours d'Artistes is Taverne Ter Linden geopend. Daar hangt werk van de Iraanse Sara Aref. Sara studeerde beeldende kunst aan de Brera Academie in Milaan, Italië, en woont en werkt momenteel in Brussel. Ze is enthousiast over kleuren, bewegingen, de natuur en licht. Geïnspireerd door Perzische miniaturen, die omwille van de verschillende kleurschakeringen haast muzikaal zijn, maakt ze originele kunstwerken waarin ze haar gevoelens uitdrukt in een abstracte vorm.

********** English ********** GLUON presents Checkin’ Each Other Out, an artistic project by Belgian artist Jerry Galle. The show is the first exhibition in a series showcasing the results of Gluon’s residency collaboration and focuses on Galle’s most recent work, developed during a residency at Belgian research centre Flanders Make, hosted by Gluon. On Saturday 20 April, we will open the expo with a keynote by Darian Meacham (technology philosopher) and panel discussion with Jerry Galle and Marc Engels (COO Flanders Make). Welcome! Checkin’ Each Other Out is a project that questions our understanding of `intelligence’. Through interaction between humans, robots and living organisms, Galle aims to explore alternative forms of intelligence to suggest a broader spectrum of `smart’. Artificial intelligence (AI) constitutes one of these emerging intelligences. At the same time, there is also growing recognition of non-human intelligences in other living organisms such as octopuses and mycelium, which exhibit unique forms of ‘intelligence’. To encourage a shift in perspective, Galle suggests to embrace new approaches that recognise the complexity of intelligence in all its forms. According to Galle, it is crucial to consider robots and artificial intelligence not merely as subordinate entities, but as autonomous subjects. Should we emphasize fostering collaboration and promoting a sense of shared agency and mutual commitment?
