Naar aanleiding van het Jetse Artiestenparcours d’Artistes nodigen we je uit om mee te kijken door de ogen van jonge filmmakers.

Yto Vanfleteren studeert regie aan het RITC School of Arts. In de jeugdzaal van GC Essegem bouwt ze een videoruimte waar ze eigen werk en dat van vrienden voor de eerste keer vertoont.

In de feestzaal kan je kijken naar het werk van Marina Kalleny. Deze Egyptische documentairemaakster is geboren en opgegroeid in Caïro, maar woont sinds twee jaar in Jette. Ze behaalde haar master bij Docnomads, een prestigieus Erasmusprogramma in Portugal, Hongarije en België. Door haar lens duikt ze in de ingewikkelde lagen van persoonlijke en collectieve herinneringen, op zoek naar de link tussen mens en natuur. Met het geheugen en transformatie als centrale thema’s verkent ze de onvatbaarheid van tijd en de diepgaande connecties tussen verleden, heden en toekomst.

Gedurende het hele weekend van Artiestenparcours d'Artistes is Taverne Ter Linden geopend. Daar hangt werk van de Iraanse Sara Aref. Sara studeerde beeldende kunst aan de Brera Academie in Milaan, Italië, en woont en werkt momenteel in Brussel. Ze is enthousiast over kleuren, bewegingen, de natuur en licht. Geïnspireerd door Perzische miniaturen, die omwille van de verschillende kleurschakeringen haast muzikaal zijn, maakt ze originele kunstwerken waarin ze haar gevoelens uitdrukt in een abstracte vorm.

For its second edition, the Brussels Jewellery Week brings together established and emerging artists, collectors and an international audience. Brussels Jewellery Week aims to highlight contemporary jewellery as a creative and innovative craft. In addition to the main exhibition at MAD Brussels, tours, lectures and workshops will be organised at various locations around the city. PARTICLE[S] In physics, "elementary particles" are the smallest elements that form the matter and forces of the universe: in constant motion, these small entities are capable, by fusion, of forming large ensembles, thus forming the basis of all creation and transformation. In grammar, a particle is a small unchanging element: fixed, unassuming, it inflects the meaning of a word by connecting with it. The concept of PARTICLE[S] can be approached from a purely scientific or technical standpoint. But it can also be seen, in a world threatened by pollution, as a metaphor for many human interactions that ultimately form a critical mass. In the world of contemporary jewelry, we see that each material consists of the same tiny particles that together, in subtle arrangements, form a work of art. ********** Français ********** Du 25 avril au 5 mai, Bruxelles se met à l'heure du bijou contemporain ! La Brussels Jewellery Week vise à mettre en valeur le bijou contemporain en tant qu'artisanat créatif et innovant. Voor haar tweede editie brengt de Brussels Jewellery Week gevestigde en opkomende kunstenaars, verzamelaars en een internationaal publiek samen. De Brussels Jewellery Week wil hedendaagse juwelen onder de aandacht brengen als een creatieve en innovatieve ambacht. Naast de hoofdtentoonstelling bij MAD Brussels worden er rondleidingen, lezingen en workshops georganiseerd op verschillende locaties in de stad. Maar het kan ook gezien worden, in een wereld die bedreigd wordt door vervuiling, als een metafoor voor vele menselijke interacties die uiteindelijk een kritische massa vormen. In de wereld van de hedendaagse juwelen zien we dat elk materiaal bestaat uit dezelfde kleine deeltjes die samen, in subtiele ordeningen, een kunstwerk vormen.

L'exposition MOLENROM : Exploration visuelle des "identités rom" dévoile les résultats d'ateliers artistiques menés par l'artiste Marion Colard avec les adolescent.es de l'association Molenrom. À travers une variété d'oeuvres collectives telles que la photographie, le dessin, la peinture et le monotype, elle propose des perspectives multiples et personnelles sur les "identités roms*". Plongez dans une collection de portraits et d'autoportraits créés par des enfants de 10 à 15 ans. Cette exposition offre une vision authentique et nuancée des identités romani, permettant au public de découvrir la diversité et la complexité de ces communautés au-delà des stéréotypes. Objective Case - Exhibition by Árpád Forgó [Hu] & Abel Jallais [Be]

The first joint exhibition of Hungarian artist, Árpád Forgó and Brussels-based ceramic artist Abel Jallais takes place at the Front Gallery of Liszt Institute, Brussels as an official off program of Art Brussels international contemporary art fair. At the exhibition, through unusual constellations, Forgó’s delicate shaped canvas compositions get in dialogue with the monochrome ceramic objects of Abel Jallais. Despite of working with different medium, their approach and processes share several similarities. They create non-representational objects, which do not intend to generate direct associations; the content of the work is its colour, shape, texture, size and scale. Both artists developed his own basic forms, from which they build the artworks: Jallais is using additions, cut-outs and repetition in his “Bonbonne” series; Forgó is applying different reflection methods, as well as shifting. They create simple and visually controllable pieces that need to be observed and discovered. Árpád Forgó works with basic geometric forms and through isometric transformations; he builds shaped canvas compositions, visualising structures, shapes, measurements and rhythm, as well as planar and spatial relationships. He developed shaped canvas modules in order to build block-like or hollow, symmetrical or asymmetrical compositions. In the recent years, he experiments intensively with different compound painting processes in order to challenge the viewer’s perception not only by the structure but also by the material. Abel Jallais has an attraction to facing unknown objects; therefore, he peals off the functional territories of the archaic objects and transforms them into a free form of interpretation. They become a fictional territory again to explore, offering the opportunity to the passive user to open a new dialogue with the form. Sighing with the eyes, turning around, manipulating to return to a primitive form of primitive apprehension. His practice moves in this interstice. The fictional sense becomes the functional sense. Both artists work with traditional materials, aiming for industrial perfection, still keeping the craftsmanship of the process. Árpád Forgó is a Budapest-based artist. After graduating, he soon started to focus on geometric abstraction and made paintings with tactile feature. He has always been interested in the periphery of painting and sculpture. Since 2015, he creates shaped canvas works and modular compositions. He has exhibited widely, including solos shows at Anya Tish Gallery in Houston; Schlieder Contemporary in Frankfurt; Viltin Gallery, Budapest and Rómer Flóris Museum of Art and History in Győr, Hungary. He has participated in group shows at Ludwig Museum and Vasarely Museum in Budapest and the Museum Ritter in Waldenbuch, Germany. Artist residency programs play an important role in the artist’s career, he was invited to Norway, Australia, Spain, and several times to the United States. For 2019-2020, he was awarded The Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant. Abel Jallais is a French-born ceramic artist living and working in Brussels. After his studies at the College of Fine Arts in Angers, where he concentrated on sculpture and drawing, he spent a year in Colombia, where he did an internship at Campo de Gutierrez artist residency centre, where ceramics played a major role. He had already been working with clay since his teenage years, and this experience strengthened his desire to explore this material further. On his return to Europe, he joined the master’s programme in ceramics at La Cambre National College of Visual Arts in Brussels, graduating in 2018. Since then, he has divided his time between his art practice at Espace Triphasé art studio and his work as a teacher at the Brussels Art Academy and as a teaching assistant at the ceramics department at La Cambre. His works have been exhibited at numerous galleries and art spaces in Brussels, including Galerie Cohérent, Musée du Cinquantenaire, Puls Ceramics Gallery and Espace La Vallée, as well as at international ceramics platforms in Belgium, The Netherlands and France. /// Curator: Gábor Pintér

Louidgi Beltrame - 'La huaca llora'

********** English ********** Since 2012, Louidgi Beltrame has been conducting research in Peru which has led him to investigate the Nazca geoglyphs and film the practice of José Levis Picón Saguma, a curandero (traditional healer or shaman). Through films, photographs, ink drawings on canvas, and a sculpture produced for his exhibition at La Loge, the artist explores the liminal figure of the huaquero ('clandestine grave digger'). By maintaining links with the past, huaquería—or clandestine excavation—could be seen as a form of resistance to colonisation and a forced, rational interpretation of the world. Here, traditions, spirits, and ancestors are kept alive by owing to transactional gestures and the transmission of knowledge. The exhibition at La Loge is presented in partnership with le Centre d’art contemporain d’Ivry — le Crédac. ********** Français ********** Depuis 2012, Louidgi Beltrame développe une recherche au Pérou, laquelle l’a mené à expérimenter les géoglyphes de Nazca, ou à filmer la pratique du curandero (guérisseur traditionnel ou chamane) José Levis Picón Saguma. It goes on to demonstrate the impact of works of art as ‘ambassadors of peace’. The migration of artists and the displacement of artistic treasures during this period are subjects which can be analysed through interactive media stations. Furthermore, Bellum et Artes delves into the struggle for peace, illuminating political schemes and the genesis of legal and political principles that continue to have relevance today. ********** Français ********** Bellum & Artes explore un des premiers conflits à grande échelle en Europe à travers l’utilisation stratégique des arts par les parties adversaires comme outil de propagande militaire et pour accentuer leur pouvoir. Il démontre ensuite l’impact des œuvres d’art en tant qu’« ambassadeurs de la paix ». La migration des artistes et le déplacement des trésors artistiques au cours de cette période sont des sujets qui peuvent être analysés à travers des stations médiatiques interactives. ********** Nederlands ********** Bellum et Artes verkent een vroeg grootschalig conflict in Europa aan de hand van het strategische gebruik van kunst door de strijdende partijen als militair propagandamiddel en om hun macht te benadrukken. Daarnaasttoont de tentoonstelling ook de impact van kunstwerken als "ambassadeurs van de vrede". In de interactieve elementen van de tentoonstelling wordt er dieper ingegaan op de migratie van kunstenaars en de verplaatsing van kunstschatten tijdens deze periode.

Hantés que nous sommes par le réchauffement climatique, par les guerres et autres épidémies, et par la résurgence d’idéologies mortifères, nous manquons de réponses. ********** English ********** Piëdestal vzw / asbl is proud to present its second exhibition "Welcome to the Age of Chaos, Welcome to Entrotopia!" which will take place between 3 and 26 May 2024 at LaVallée, in the heart of Brussels and is again curated by artist Seppe De Roo (°1994). This new project builds on the success of our first exhibition, 'Sit Back, Relax & Enjoy the Apocalypse' (2022). This expo attracted more than 3,000 visitors in 16 days and exhibited 14 young (inter)national artists. The 6 selected young emerging artists for 'Welcome to the Age of Chaos, Welcome to Entrotopia!' are Anna Zanichelli (Brussels), Seppe De Roo (Brussels), Arieh Frosh (London), Fabien Zocco (Lille), June Ha (aka Öspiel, Brussels) & Maria E. André (Brussels). The hallmark of our era lies in the technological revolution, exponentially hastening the pace at which we engage with the world. To the human mind, it may seem like a rising tide of entropy, an intricate chaos shaping our reality. However, a crucial inquiry arises: will this acceleration eventually come to a breaking point where it becomes too overwhelming? What sort of world can we imagine for both current and future generations of humanity? Entrotopia is neither a dystopian dream nor an utopian nightmare. Entrotopia will depict a garden of textures of the 21st century, both through visual art and in sound. Together these artworks shape a meditative space as an experience. The emphasis is on the confluence of the artisanal with digital production methods such as 3D printing and A.I.. You will find creeping robotic creatures in the dark, video art generated with A.I., 3D-printed sculptures and classical and artisanal media such as painting and sculpture created with or without new technology such as 3D rendering and neural networks. A fusion of man and machine, physical and digital, science and new-old-born spirituality. This expo is a multidisciplinary arts platform with several complementary events and audiences: The opening night on the 3rd May (Vernissage) and Pride-evening (17th of May) will feature live music and concerts with well-known names such as Öspiel, Mélissa Juice & Stella K. On Saturday nights, LaVallée is in charge of programming events. On Sunday 5th of May (11-19h), the first performance platform will take place at the exhibition with performances by Carla Parcianello, Rob Hayden, Manse Kim /Jenn Hutt / Clelia Patrono (live electronics/ dance) & Louise Roam (concert) On Sunday 26th of May (11-19h), the second performance afternoon will take place at the exhibition and focus on young families with a workshop for kids and performances by Giulia Piana, Chiara Monteverde, Elise Ludinard, llaria Orlandini / Andrés Navarro (dance / music), IRP Luigi -Bisogno / Florian Vuille (concert) On the 4 Mondays and Wednesdays during the expo, a cultural media project aimed at connecting local residents and refugees will be organised. This will include a free guided tour and free creative workshops with painting and collage. A voluntary contribution is requested at the entrance of the exhibition to support organising this exhibiton. There is no voluntary contribution asked to children and young people up to 15 years old and participants in the cultural mediation projects. André (Bruxelles). Notre époque est marquée par la révolution technologique, qui accélère de manière exponentielle le rythme auquel nous nous engageons dans le monde. Pour l'esprit humain, cela peut ressembler à une marée montante d'entropie, un chaos complexe qui façonne notre réalité. Toutefois, une question cruciale se pose : cette accélération finira-t-elle par atteindre un point de rupture où elle deviendra trop écrasante ? Quel genre de monde pouvons-nous imaginer pour les générations actuelles et futures de l'humanité ? Entrotopia n'est ni un rêve dystopique ni un cauchemar utopique. Entrotopia dépeindra un jardin de textures du 21e siècle, à la fois par l'art visuel et par le son. Ensemble, ces œuvres d'art façonnent un espace méditatif en tant qu'expérience. L'accent est mis sur la confluence de l'artisanat et des méthodes de production numériques telles que l'impression 3D et l'intelligence artificielle. Vous trouverez des créatures robotiques rampantes dans l'obscurité, de l'art vidéo généré par l'I.A., des sculptures imprimées en 3D et des médias classiques et artisanaux tels que la peinture et la sculpture, créés avec ou sans nouvelles technologies telles que le rendu 3D et les réseaux neuronaux. Une fusion de l'homme et de la machine, du physique et du numérique, de la science et de la spiritualité naissante. Er rijst echter een cruciale vraag: zal deze versnelling uiteindelijk een breekpunt bereiken waarop ze te overweldigend wordt? Wat voor wereld kunnen we ons voorstellen voor zowel de huidige als de toekomstige generaties van de mensheid? Entrotopia is noch een dystopische droom noch een utopische nachtmerrie. Entrotopia verbeeldt een tuin van texturen van de 21e eeuw, zowel door middel van beeldende kunst als in geluid. Samen vormen deze kunstwerken een meditatieve ruimte als ervaring. De nadruk ligt op de samenvloeiing van het ambachtelijke met digitale productiemethoden zoals 3D-printen en A.I.. Je vindt er in het donker kruipende robotwezens, videokunst gegenereerd met A.I., 3D-geprinte sculpturen en klassieke en ambachtelijke media zoals schilder- en beeldhouwkunst, al dan niet gemaakt met nieuwe technologie zoals 3D-rendering en neurale netwerken. Een samensmelting van mens en machine, fysiek en digitaal, wetenschap en herboren spiritualiteit. Dit omvat een gratis rondleiding en gratis creatieve workshops met schilderen en collage. Er wordt een vrije bijdrage gevraagd bij de ingang van de tentoonstelling om de organisatie van deze tentoonstelling te ondersteunen. Aan kinderen en jongeren tot 15 jaar en deelnemers aan de culturele mediaprojecten wordt geen vrije bijdragen gevraagd.
