Le Lombard, a Family Affair

The second floor of our Comics Art Museum brings the old Waucquez warehouse back to life. From 8 September 2023, this floor will host an exhibition celebrating 77 years of publishing house Le Lombard, in a brand new setting. Designed as a large furniture showroom, the exhibition presents 77 years of family comics. You will discover the origins of Le Lombard, its mythology, its pioneers, its poster boys, its frontiersmen and mavericks. Room by room you will discover the extraordinary richness of a catalogue first built around the legendary magazine Tintin and the graphic style so dear to Hergé, and then reinvented as society and the publishing world evolved. The exhibition offers a playful and inventive look, with never-before-seen documents, images, archives, projections and beautiful originals hidden in fake furniture. Le deuxième étage du Musée de la Bande Dessinée renoue avec l’esprit initial des anciens magasins Waucquez. À partir du 8 septembre 2023, il accueille en effet l’exposition des 77 ans du Lombard présentée dans un dispositif inédit. Conçue comme un showroom d’ameublement, cette exposition présente 77 ans de bande dessinée familiale. Avec sa genèse, sa mythologie, ses pionniers et ses têtes d’affiche, ses défricheurs et ses francs-tireurs. De pièce en pièce, les visiteurs découvriront l’extraordinaire richesse d’un catalogue d’abord construit autour du mythique journal Tintin et de la ligne graphique chère à Hergé, puis réinventé au gré des évolutions de la société et du monde de l’édition. Un regard à la fois ludique et inventif au travers de documents inédits, d’images, d’archives, de projections et de somptueux originaux… cachés dans de faux meubles. De tweede verdieping van het Stripmuseum brengt de geest van de oude Waucquez Warenhuizen opnieuw tot leven. Vanaf 8 september 2023 vindt je hier immers een tentoonstelling om 77 jaar uitgeverij Le Lombard te vieren, in een gloednieuw decor. Ze is ontworpen als een showroom van een grote meubelwinkel, en geeft een overzicht van 77 jaar familiestrips. Je ontdekt de mythische ontstaansgeschiedenis van Le Lombard, de pioniers, de posterboys, de grensverleggers en de buitenbeentjes. Kamer na kamer ontdek je de buitengewone rijkdom van een catalogus die eerst werd uitgebouwd rond het legendarische Weekblad Kuifje en de grafische stijl die Hergé zo dierbaar was, en die zich daarna opnieuw uitvond op het ritme van de veranderende maatschappij en het uitgeverslandschap. De tentoonstelling biedt een speelse en inventieve kijk, met nooit eerder vertoonde documenten, beelden, archiefstukken, projecties en prachtige originelen... allemaal verstopt in valse meubels.
