Belgian artist Jean-Michel Folon (1934-2005) worked for several years with the Italian design company Olivetti. This collaboration is emblematic of the long-standing relationship between Olivetti and the art world.

As early as 1912, Camillo Olivetti commissioned the painter Teodoro Wolf Ferrari to create the emblematic poster for the first Olivetti typewriter, the M1. But it was not until the leadership of his son Adriano (1938 - 1960) that Olivetti was transformed into a modern company. Olivetti's Ivrea headquarters became a laboratory for innovative interaction between business and society. This model is still considered a model today for its ability to integrate culture, technological research, design, architecture, beauty and sustainability. Adriano Olivetti opened up the company to intellectuals, artists, sociologists and philosophers.

Thanks to this vision, Giorgio Soavi, Adriano's close cultural collaborator, invited Folon to become part of the Olivetti world in the 1960s. Thirty years of collaboration between the Belgian artist, Jean-Michel Folon, who drew the destiny of the human being, and the company, Olivetti, for which he was responsible, for a time, for the visual identity and graphic design.

Their long friendship and Olivetti's artistic legacy will be presented to the public in this talk, which takes a fresh look at the Italian company, a pioneer in the creation of typewriters and calculators, and Jean-Michel Folon, a singular Belgian artist of many talents.

L'artiste belge Jean-Michel Folon (1934-2005) a travaillé plusieurs années au sein de l'entreprise de design italienne Olivetti. Cette collaboration est un cas emblématique de la relation de longue date entre la société Olivetti et le monde de l’art.

Dès 1912, Camillo Olivetti charge le peintre Teodoro Wolf Ferrari de créer l'affiche emblématique de la première machine à écrire Olivetti, la M1. Mais ce n'est que sous la présidence de son fils Adriano (1938 - 1960) qu'Olivetti se transforme en une entreprise moderne. Le siège d'Olivetti à Ivrea est devenu un laboratoire d'interaction innovante entre l'entreprise et la société. Ce modèle est encore aujourd’hui considéré comme exemplaire pour sa capacité à intégrer la culture, la recherche technologique, le design, l’architecture, la beauté et la durabilité. Adriano Olivetti a ouvert l'entreprise aux intellectuel·le·s, aux artistes, aux sociologues et aux philosophes.

Grâce à cette approche, Giorgio Soavi, proche collaborateur culturel d'Adriano, a invité Folon à faire partie de l'univers Olivetti dans les années soixante. Trente ans de collaboration entre l’artiste belge, Jean-Michel Folon, qui a dessiné le destin de l’être humain, et l’entreprise, Olivetti, dont il s’est chargé pour un temps de l’identité visuelle et du graphisme.

Leur longue amitié et l'héritage artistique d'Olivetti seront présentés au public avec cette conférence qui offre un nouveau regard sur l’entreprise italienne, pionnière dans la création de machine à écrire et à calculer, et Jean-Michel Folon, artiste belge singulier aux multiples talents.

Vanaf 1912 gaf Camillo Olivetti de schilder Teodoro Wolf Ferrai de opdracht om de emblematische poster te maken voor de eerste typemachine van Olivetti, de M1. Maar pas onder het presidentschap van zijn zoon Adriano (1938-1960) werd Olivetti omgevormd tot een modern bedrijf. Het hoofdkantoor van Olivetti in Ivrea werd een laboratorium voor innovatieve interactie tussen het bedrijfsleven en de samenleving. Dit model wordt vandaag de dag nog steeds als voorbeeld beschouwd vanwege het vermogen om cultuur, technologisch onderzoek, design, architectuur, schoonheid en duurzaamheid te integreren. Adriano Olivetti stelde het bedrijf open voor intellectuelen, kunstenaars, sociologen en filosofen.

Dankzij deze benadering nodigde Giorgio Soavi, Adriano’s nauwe culturele medewerker, Folon uit om deel uit te maken van de Olivetti wereld in de jaren 1960. De Belgische kunstenaar Jean-Michel Folon, die het lot van de mens heeft getekend, heeft dertig jaar lang samengewerkt met het bedrijf Olivetti en was een tijd verantwoordelijk voor de visuele identiteit en het grafisch ontwerp.

Hun lange vriendschap en Olivetti’s artistieke erfgoed zal worden gepresenteerd aan het publiek in deze conferentie, die een nieuwe kijk biedt op het Italiaanse bedrijf, een pionier in het ontwerp van type- en rekenmachines, en Jean-Michel Folon, een bijzondere Belgische kunstenaar met vele talenten.

De BXL Run Crew start samen met jou aan Muntpunt. Ze ontwikkelden speciaal voor deze loopsessie een parcours langs literaire plekken in het centrum van Brussel. Van het huis van Victor Hugo, tot de plek waar de relatie tussen Verlaine en Rimbaurd dramatisch eindigde. Brusselse street art kleurt de route. De route is ongeveer 10 km en het tempo ligt rond de 10 km per uur. Meet up om 19.30 u., Muntpunt Café, Leopoldstraat 2, 1000 Brussel oMultimove parcours op 4 mei: Lekker klauteren tijdens een gratis initiatie kleuterturnen, ontmoet mascotte Ket en stel al je vragen over sporten in Brussel. oQi gong-wandeling met BOp op 7 mei: Een rustgevende wandeling vanuit Muntpunt. We stoppen op leuke plekjes om qi gong te beoefenen. qi gong bestaat uit trage bewegingen die we rustig en vloeiend uitvoeren met een diepe buikademhaling. Dit bevordert de doorstroming van bloed en energie in het lichaam. We maken gewrichten los en werken aan een goede houding. We verzamelen aan de inkomhal om 10.00 uur. Inschrijven vooraf is niet nodig.

********** English ********** A two-day training/hanging-out/sharing practice for artists/researchers focusing on the variational aspects of the genre of horror. In this setting, one can get introduced to the historical elements of the genre, such as zombies, gore and tortured ghostly demons, vicious animals and cannibal witches, as well as medieval serial killer monsters, unnatural disasters and Frankenstein projects. Parallelly foregrounding different scales and registers of horror for reconsideration, ranging from speculative fiction, and sci-fi cinema, to medieval bestiaries, inducing “bad feelings” such as fear, uncanny, awe, mania, panic, loss, tension and anxiety. The participants will start by reimagining a positive aspect of their practices, locating the value system, and deciding, with the help of the others, what can be turned into horror. Different from critical reflection on horror, to practice horror is to enter a symbolic realm of expressiveness at the vicinity of horror, where another kind of relation to the articulation of values becomes possible. In this turn, parts of an artistic practice can get a chance of being thought of as “fucked-up”. It is a sharing environment, where we present to each other: to what extent what we do can become a disaster, cause damage, torture, or simply be horrific? This workshop is developed in the crossline between Sina’s interest in medieval bestiaries and Adrijana’s preoccupation with artistic anxieties within their own artistic work. The workshop is open for registering and is addressed to artists/researchers interested in sharing, horror, fabulous writing and humor, and are prepared to devote two afternoons to the workshop.  If you are interested, please register at tickets@kaai.be and add a short paragraph or sentence about yourself/your practice/your expectations from the workshop. The setting of the workshop is also imagined as an installation, a playful ambience with horror accessories and references, which will be open to the public after 18:00 on both days. On Friday at 18:30, they will do a public presentation of the workshop. PROGRAMMEWorkshop for the participants: Friday & Saturday, 14:00 > 18:00  Open for public: Friday & Saturday from 18:00 Public presentation: Friday 18:30 > 19:30• Adrijana Gvozdenović is interested in the motivation of artists and ways of resisting (self-)institutionalized structures. Taking context as a partner, she responds to established structures in the visual arts, pushing the boundaries between making, mediation and production.  • Sina Seifee is an artist based between Tehran, Brussels and Cologne. He explores experimental cartographies and modes of subjectivity, using radical poetry and perverted etymology. He received his master’s in media arts from KHM (Cologne) in 2014 and graduated from a.pass (Brussels) in 2017. ********** Français ********** Deux jours de formation, d'échange et de partage pour les artistes et les chercheur·euses qui se concentrent sur les différents aspects de l’horreur en tant que genre distinct. C’est dans ce cadre que les participant·es auront l’occasion de se familiariser avec les éléments historiques du genre, tels que les zombies, les démons fantomatiques aussi gore que torturés, les animaux vicieux et les sorcières cannibales, ainsi que les monstres tueurs en série médiévaux, les catastrophes non naturelles et les projets de Frankenstein. Les participant·es mettront en parallèle l'accent sur les différentes échelles et registres de l'horreur à reconsidérer, allant de la fiction spéculative et du cinéma de science-fiction aux bestiaires médiévaux, induisant des "mauvais sentiments" tels que la peur, l'étrange, l'effroi, la manie, la panique, la perte, la tension et l'anxiété.Les participant·es commenceront par réimaginer un aspect positif de leurs pratiques, en situant le système de valeurs et en décidant, avec l'aide des autres, quelles parties peuvent être transformées en horreur.La pratique de l’horreur diffère de la réflexion critique sur l’horreur en ce sens qu’elle permet d'entrer dans un domaine symbolique d'expressivité proche de l'horreur, où un autre type de relation à l'articulation des valeurs devient possible. Il s'agit d'un environnement de partage, où nous nous présentons les un·es aux autres : dans quelle mesure ce que nous faisons peut se muer en désastre, causer des dégâts, torturer ou tout simplement être horrible ?Le développement de ce workshop se situe à la croisée de l'intérêt de Sina quant aux bestiaires médiévaux et de la préoccupation d'Adrijana pour les angoisses artistiques au sein de leur propre travail artistique. Tegelijk plaatsen Adrijana en Sina verschillende niveaus en registers van horror op de voorgrond om ze te her-evalueren. Dit gaat van speculatieve fictie en sci-fi cinema tot middeleeuwse bestialiteiten die ‘slechte gevoelens’ opbrengen zoals bang zijn, ongemak, verbluffing, manie, paniek, verlies, spanning en angst. De deelnemers beginnen met een positief aspect van hun praktijk te herdenken, het waardesysteem erin te herkennen en - met de hulp van anderen - te beslissen welk deel ervan in horror kan worden getransformeerd. Anders dan bij kritische reflectie rond horror, stap je bij het beoefenen van horror in een wereld van expressiviteit rondom horror, waarin een andere soort relatie tot het uitdrukken van waarden mogelijk wordt. Met deze oefening kan je delen van je artistieke praktijk herdenken als “fucked-up”. De workshop schept een omgeving waar we aanwezig kunnen zijn voor elkaar: tot op welke hoogte kan wat we doen veranderen in een ramp, een bron van schade, een marteling of gewoonweg afschuwelijk? Deze workshop combineert Sina’s interesse in middeleeuwse dierenencyclopedieën en Adrijana’s focus op artistieke angsten binnen het werk van een kunstenaar. De workshop is gericht op kunstenaars en onderzoekers die geïnteresseerd zijn in het delen, in horror, fabels schrijven en humor. De workshop loopt gedurende twee namiddagen, en is bedoeld voor zij die beide namiddagen aanwezig kunnen zijn. ********** English ********** Autrique House was one of architect Victor Horta's first projects in Brussels, and the only one in the heart of Schaerbeek. Discover Autrique House and its Folon Insolite exhibition using the Primotheka tool, which introduces you to Art Nouveau architecture and life in the early 20th century. This lexical tool is made up of 5 activities, covering a number of themes: the neighbourhood, the facade, the house's rooms, materials and trades, and ornamentation. The visit is led by two facilitators and is aimed at FLE (French as a foreign language) learners. ********** Français ********** La Maison Autrique est une des premières œuvres de l’architecte Victor Horta à Bruxelles, la seule au cœur de Schaerbeek. Nous vous proposons de découvrir la Maison et son exposition « Folon Insolite » grâce au dispositif Primotheka qui permet de découvrir l'architecture Art nouveau et le mode de vie du début du XXe siècle. Cet outil lexical est composé de 5 activités, il permet d’aborder plusieurs thématiques : le quartier, la façade, les pièces de la maison, les matériaux et les métiers et l'ornement. L'activité sera encadrée par deux animatrices et s'adresse à un public FLE (Français langue étrangère, personnes apprenant le français).

Op deze zondagmiddag duiken we in de archieven. Het Kadoc KULeuven heeft een unieke documentaire in zijn bezit ‘Berberi’. De Witte Paters maakten deze tijdens hun missie in Noord-Afrika in de jaren ’50 van vorige eeuw. Karim van Kadoc geeft de nodige context bij deze beelden. Wie informatie zoekt over izran, komt vroeg of laat zeker bij izranvantoen.nl terecht. Deze website bundelt een schat aan informatie over izran. Achter de site zit Gerard, een geboren Tilburger die Linguïstiek studeerde en tot zijn pensioen les gaf aan de school voor journalistiek in Utrecht. Hij kwam in contact met Marokkaanse muziek dankzij Nass el Ghiwane die hem getipt werd door zijn Riffijnse leerlingen. Zijn ambitie is om izran toegankelijk te maken en kennis over izran zoveel mogelijk te delen en te verspreiden. Gerard dook vooral in alle geschreven bronnen over izran en analyseerde bijvoorbeeld ‘Dhar Ubaran’, een lange izri die verslag doet van de eerste Rijffijnse overwinning op de Spanjaarden… De populairste pagina op izranvantoen.nl zijn de hennaliederen.
