Painting after Painting: Contemporary Painting in Belgium

Description

“Painting after Painting” shows work from more than 70 artists who live and work in Belgium. The exhibition sketches the recent evolutions and trends within painting as an art form in Belgium.

Some contemporary artists draw on motifs and techniques from the past while also exploring and pushing the boundaries of the medium. Others create narrative work that addresses their daily life, political or social issues and matters of identity, gender or representation. Others again take a more abstract or formalistic approach, examining the relationship with other contemporary forms of visual representation. The exhibition celebrates the riches and complexity of the art of painting. The museum is transforming Hall 1 into a painters' workshop. Here, you can give your creativity free rein.
