Connection between Jazz and African Rhythms Akrofo System was born from the encounter between the most African of jazz pianists, Philippe Monange, and percussionists Youssouf Traoré, Laurent Clipet, and saxophonist/flutist Thomas Koenig. These four versatile musicians pay tribute to the unique connection between jazz and African rhythms. In a setup where the bass is replaced by West African dunduns, jazz and contemporary piano intertwine with saxophone and flute featuring Coltrane-inspired tones, Afro-Cuban percussion, and modern electronic sounds. This music freely and audaciously transcends borders and styles. From composition to improvised dialogues, Akrofo System explores a repertoire of original creations, complemented by a few reimagined covers, all with a constant commitment to sharing with the audience.
