A one girl band who writes, sings and produces all of her own music, The 18 year-old Brooklyn, NY native's genre-bending music sounds like a Gen Z synthesis of Brent Faiyaz's riffs, James Blake’s chord progressions, and J Dilla’s drums while bringing to life a unique style and sound of her own to the global music scene reminiscent of the heyday of the birth of New York Hip Hop and R&B.
On her first mixtape, “IN CTRL!,” songs like “SOFT SERVE” and “80 in a 55” show off her proclivity for combining vocals and working with ambient instrumentals while reflecting on life, love, and the bittersweet musings of adolescence.
With her forthcoming debut album "Gap Year" in the works for a September 2024 release, Laila! Hungers to make an R&B and Hip Hop all of her own, and to show other young women that it is indeed possible to do it all, on your own terms.
